I don't think they were looking for evidence, per se... I think they were looking for a person, presumably Jayme.
Even if they obtained consent to search for evidence, they wouldn't. They would obtain a warrant. Their looking in closets and under (crawlspace?) indicated they were looking for a person, either hiding, or hidden.

Looking in closets, cabins and hunting sites. A 2000 -person grid. Family circling the house within the middle of the night on a Sunday. This is not being handled in the typical fashion. If I didn't know any better it sounds almost like a runaway case/missing child case on steroids, not the typical double homicide/abduction case. I do not know the facts any more than the next.

There is an old saying you never really know what is going on behind closed doors. This young lady is just that a young lady. My heart breaks for her regardless of what comes out.

Some news articles about black Acura MDX (may or may not be relevant):

Unidentified Man kicked his way into a New Jersey home:
Do you know Harmony Township home invader?

Man with a brown Acura MDX made hoax call as diversion to gas station robbery:
Mobil station in Taunton robbed again at knifepoint

Staten Island Hit and Run:

Canada Hit and Run:

Again, please send in anything you think could be relevant and remember the site rules here are that we cannot discuss anyone by name who is not a named suspect in this case.

Not necessarily true. We're just the next county over from Barron-- Some predators and nocturnal animals are legal to hunt at night, year round. Coyotes come to mind as they are beginning to become bothersome to livestock and property this time of year.

Hunting and protecting livestock are two different things

Multiple also means two or more. Not necessarily more than two.

True, but the likelihood of noticing just two casings in the chaotic midst of a double murder discovery with scattered victims, and then calling those two casings in as "multiple", is pretty small.

JMO.

Oh I know! I was just saying, that would unnerve me. To think that possibly, the killer could have been in or around my home. That's what I meant by evidence, sorry I worded that wrong. I just feel sorry for them, an absolute nightmare. It's not something you ever forget, it leaves you nervous years later. That's all I will say, so I don't derail the thread.

I just want to add a note about the Challengers. Not all of them are as loud as the one in the posted video. How the vehicle sounds depends on which engine it has as well as the type of exhaust system/exhaust modification. Mr. Pink has one and it does not have a deep rumble, in fact, it would be pretty quiet had the previous owner not modified the exhaust. So, keeping eyes open and discounting what the vehicle sounds like seems the best bet to me.
Yesss, V6 versus V8 and stock vs not stock makes a HUGE difference!

True enough, but it remains that it is legal and would be commonplace this time of year for either reason.

Barron community holds on to hope as Jayme Closs remains missing
Fox 9 asked next door neighbor, JS, who heard the two gunshots go off last week, if the two car descriptions looked familiar. “This one I’ve seen something like it, but I’ve never seen it out here I’ve think I’ve seen it in town.”

JS also says it is a 24/7 operation over at the Closs family home. She says investigators have not stopped taking stuff out for evidence. Even her home was searched.

“FBI was here twice, a couple of days apart—the first time they were here they asked questions—and then they went through the entire house,” said JS. “TS went downstairs with them—and they went through everything—looking through every closet to check even looking down underneath in the closet.”

Throughout the day, authorities have been flying this chopper extremely low above the Closs home on Highway 8 in Barron and the surrounding areas. The chopper is looking for Jayme, clues and also mapping grids to help with upcoming ground searches.
Regarding the photos of the vehicles of interest, the quote by JS given in the above article differs from the Fox 9 broadcast, where she said, "This one.....I've seen.....something like it."

I watched the segment 4 times to make sure I had the quote correct.

An editing issue? Kinda interesting.

I could see a meth head driving a Dodge that is challenged to be roadworthy, but not a Dodge Challenger.

JMO.
The meth heads around here drive bicycles that barely run!
No way they own a Challenger. They are couch surfers and wouldn't be able to make payments or afford the insurance.

Apologies if this has been mentioned in a previous thread, or it has been discussed, but do we have any idea of the type of weapon. Where I live in Wisconsin, for example, a shotgun for hunting might be more common place. My apologies if this has been mentioned. All I can see is "casings." But that doesn't give me an idea of the weapon used. Thanks in advance.
No mention by law enforcement of what the murder weapon(s) were.

Jmo I doubt they could even know for sure who died first, except by circumstantial evidence. Not medically, too close together.
Right, it would likely be impossible since the difference would be a matter of minutes. Unless the mom was killed hours earlier which does not appear to be the case.

No, we don't know the type of firearm used. Also, "casings" were not specifically mentioned to my knowledge. The words from the dispatch log were: "multiple rounds spent".

"Rounds" is usually a term used with a handgun or rifle.

<modsnip - quoted post removed>

I try to be respectful, lost my brother to a heroin addiction. I know drugs can destroy families and make people do unthinkable things. There are functioning addicts who hold down jobs and work to support their habbits. Then their are ones who resort to crime, but to commit double murder and kidnap a 13 year old. Usually it isn't that type of crime.

It’s not commonplace. I’ve been to my family cabin about 30 min from Barron at least ten times a year for the last 15 years. Never heard a gunshot at night or heard about anybody hunting coyotes. Deer hunting is the big thing. The reason they let people hunt coyotes whenever they want is because no one does it. And for the few that do, they wouldn’t use a shotgun

What does This have to do with this thread?
I think it stemmed from the idea that the killer may have been in a drug fueled state at the time of the murder and then grew from there. Its possible, we just don't know.

It would certainly be nerve racking, but so is what happened to their neighbors.

Not OP, but of course what happened to their neighbors is nerve racking. I don’t think they were saying it isn’t. However imagine this happening to your neighbors that you barely know or have interacted with, and then having your house searched and all that. Besides being on edge about a killer being on the loose, it’s got to be stressful to have your house searched, especially if you don’t even know your neighbors. This is all provided you’re not involved in any way.

I posted those videos to notate the differing sound(s) of a backfire as a poster questioned if the neighbors heard a gunshot vs potential backfire.
