Looked liked reporter was getting ready to speak on WQOW then it cut away to the "be right back" prompter.

I find it extremely creepy that a company would put an ad with a child in it out for publicity unless they knew the family well and had permission from teh parents.... I would think the pic of just the house would be efficient

I meant to edit my post but the thread was closed. I think it is creepy now, in retrospect, because of what happened. However, this is a small family-run business in a small town where almost everyone knows everyone else. In that regard, it is not too unusual and hopefully they had the family's permission to put the photo up. The post did not share her name or give an address. So someone would have to be from the area to know where that house is located and who the child was based only the photos of the front. It's possible a local pedophile made the connection and had been watching Jayme for 2 years or more with social media adding to his obsession but I think it is unlikely someone from several states away saw this photo only and decided to act on that. It's only really creepy now but it's no different from what many parents post on social media. Tragic events like this are a good reminder to lock down your privacy settings and be careful what you are posting (even though we don't know if any social media played a part in this crime). JMO.

Tim Collins of Shoreview, Minn. brought his dog Gretchen. She’s a 4-year-old rescue. “If it’s out here, she can find it,” he says.

hah aw go Gretchen!
and the cow thing is funny but in all seriousness i wonder if searchers have permission to search on anyone's private properties and farms? just bringing back memories of Mollie Tibbetts and searching the pig farm for possible clues.

Love the volunteers and trust in LE, but when I think of 2,000 searchers I think of a trampling herd. This is very much a make or break day in the search, I think - LE is playing big, property lines be damned, I guess. Let this day make.

Sad reading obituary for James & Denise Closs. Funeral Saturday. "James loved the Packers & the Badgers and getting into conversations on the “glory days” of his HS sports career. Denise loved working with her flowers, feeding her birds, she loved angels and helping everyone.."

The 2000 volunteers were broken up into groups, with each group directed and supervised by members of LE.

It’s a lot of people, but it was by no means a free-for-all, judging by what I have read.

They are certainly going big here.

It is one thing asking for 2k volunteers but something completely different when that number is exceeded. It just goes to show you the care and love these people have in their hearts for Jayme and the community as a whole. It is great the way the area is standing behind the sheriff and all those doing the legwork and I have no doubts this will be solved and I believe sooner rather than later. It is unbelievable the resources that are being invested trying to find her. Thank you all who volunteered whether you were chosen or not.

Here's a really good look at the search area in relation to the Closs family home.

Sorry. Replied to wrong post.

Is it possible that dad stepped out and held the glass door and was shot, falling inside the house?

In my opinion that would be unlikely because of the direction that glass door hinged. Hinge of storm door was on the left and wooden main door appears to have hinged on the right. JMO.

Agreed. I feel bad for people who were turned away, but I absolutely love the implication.

People took the day off work, and some traveled from hours away.

Tremendous.

<modsnip - politicizing> the turnout on a day in Wisconsin to find a thirteen-year-old girl draws overflow crowds of volunteers: this nation has never in its history stopped being great and it has always strived to be better.

Interesting view of this reporter's search party, how they lined up, and what their search entails

It’s a lot easier walking down the middle of the corn rows as opposed to through them. No deer casualties after sweep #2 with Group 5. Hoping each time the line stops, something useful may have been found to help #FindJayme. #FindJaymeCloss

Wow! That's quite a search operation. It is quite emotional. So many good people in this world who are trying to help. It's nice to remember that good is more prevalent than evil. Let's hope Jayme came be found soon.

I checked with a mod before posting this, so I am being purposely vague. There is an interesting tip on the Barron County Sheriff's Department FB page about a vehicle matching the description of one of the vehicles of interest near the crime scene. It's a comment on the following post, from about an hour ago.

Barron County Sheriff's Department
Darn - you'd think if somebody is going to claim to see a matching vehicle they'd at least provide the tag number. There are also a dozen folks reporting on the FB post that the black Edge was seen in Florida (location debunked earlier).

So some of my coworkers who work in Communications recently attended a panel on Crisis Communications with panelists from LE, the government and local officials involved in a crisis that occurred here earlier this year. Some of the key points were:

- LE considers public safety to be their top priority; they won't say anything that cannot be confirmed as fact.
- LE also stayed away from responding to social media except in the most extreme circumstances.
- American media is very direct and wants to know everything, including things considered inappropriate in other countries. Media in other countries tend to be more compassionate and circumspect.

I think we all need to keep in mind, for this case especially, that LE is in control of their message, know exactly what they're saying, and will err on the side of caution (not riling up the public).

I do hope that the media that are on the ground in and near the search area are being respectful of the searchers and not bothering them with incessant questions like if they know the Closs family and snooping around for dirt. Even watching a few of the reporters Twitter videos makes me want to yell at my screen "pick up one of those sticks searchers are carrying and get your 🤬🤬🤬 out there too!" instead of shooting footage and posting it on social media.

I get there is a human interest piece so I'm fine with a video or picture or two about what the scene looks like but then put your camera or microphone down, put on some gear and get out in the woods and help. No questions to those searching, no wandering around looking for a scoop, just do what all the great people out there in the fields in Barron are doing and search for anything that might help locate this poor child.

There are a few reporters who are participating in the search so my hope there is that they are doing so out of genuine concern for Jayme and not to post clickbait after it's over. It's a bit annoying to see videos from the scene from reporters who are in the middle of searching. Trust me, your Twitter feed will be there when the search ends. Focus on what matters.

A cornfield saved my life when I was a teen. It served as a hiding place from would-be rapists who had tried to haul me away one evening. I now live among cornfields again and it truly gives me a sense of security. It’s all in how you look at them. Most midwesterners grew up playing in them.
