Thank you. So she changed schools from elementary to middle school last year in 5th grade, and then moved to a new middle school in Barron for 6th gr this year.
If they didn’t see her being dropped off after school this year, it may be because they did not want her going home alone after school.
That supports the idea that they were very protective of her.
Jayme is in the 8th grade.
MOO

I’m the parents obituary, it mentions that Denise was preceded in death by “baby Lewis.” It doesn’t not mention this on who James is preceded in death by. Does anyone know about this? Are we speaking of a sibling from childhood or perhaps a tragedy that happened during her first marriage? It just stood out to me.

Wouldn't she be in eighth grade?

Apparently it's her nephew. Jmo

That time you finally pulled out a google map to see where the heck the perp could have gone, and you realize that Thunder Bay, Ontario is only a little over five hours away from where this crime took place. I sure hope border officials were wide awake that night and have been since!

I don't know what grade she is in. My guess based on her age and date of birth and provided she hadn't been held back in any grades is that she would be in 8th grade this year, possibly 7th grade but if so she would turn 18 before even starting her senior year.

It occurred to me that prior to this tragedy, there was attention on the Barron area due to The Voice contestant. That would have brought an influx of new people temporarily. Perhaps someone with an otherwise clean record, acting on impulse, leaves the area unbeknownst to most. This would explain why there's no "obvious to the locals" person who hasn't missed work, school, changed their habits, missed appointments, etc.

My parents were over protective, but at 13, I was going home to an empty house, and staying alone for an hour or so until my mother got off work. Now, maybe the parents worked a later shift, or worked overtime, but it does make me wonder if there was some other reason they didn't want to leave her home alone (bullies, crime in the neighborhood, etc.)

She was involved in extracurriculars - I think she needed transportation due to the parent's work schedules. We discussed this in the prior threads when the "caregiver" term was used regarding her and the school switch.

Please note that when LE and the Feds have a suspect in custody, it gets reported right away. With that being said I doubt LE has a suspect in custody in this case as we have spoken about previously when looking at the daily arrest rooster.

But (maybe it's just a crazy thought) possibly there are 2 perps and they don't want perp 1 to know they are holding perp 2 to further endanger Jayme? Don't know how they could keep that quiet however.

Sorry, that was supposed to be a reply to SausagePizza. Ooops

I'd imagine they'd be super paranoid right now and not being able to contact each other or anything the slightest bit suspicious on the part of one culprit would just agitate the other one even more.

Hi just joined you guys but have been following things closely as an outside observer. Sincerely hope with all my heart that Jayme is safe even after this amount of time.

Something has been bothering me about this case for a while and really not sure if I can mention names in relation to my concerns. But a little girl is missing so here goes:

Strikes me that the Smrekar neighbours have gone a bit quiet after initially giving lots of interviews. To me, some comments are contradictory and strange. Maybe the relationship with their neighbours was strained?

One interview with Ashleigh Banfield of CNN previously discussed on this thread concerns me in that it doesn’t ring true and seems to be designed to distance the Smrekars from knowing that there was a child next door. Strange to say the least since I think both families lived there for some years.

SMREKAR: They were very quiet people. We only saw them come and go from their home. We took mail up to them that got delivered to us, and they didn`t even want to come to the door. They were just quiet, preferred I guess to be alone. You didn`t see them out in the yard doing anything. At least we didn`t.

BANFIELD: Did you ever see Jaime with any friends? Or did she ever come and go and get picked up by friends in vehicles of any kind?

SMREKAR: That I can`t tell you, I just know that the school bus dropped her off?

BANFIELD: And you would see her dropped off daily in front of the house by the school bus?

SMREKAR: Yes.

BANFIELD: But other than that, you didn`t see collections of friends coming and going from that house?

SMREKAR: No. We didn`t even know they had any children. They just weren`t out there doing things.

In a video interview with Joan Smrekar and her husband Search for missing 13-year-old Jayme Closs expands as police hunt for 2 cars seen by Wisconsin home | Daily Mail Online. There is a strange statement at timing point 0.58 where he is describing the helicopter flying back and forward over his house and says: “… and this is where they are at, it’s kind of uncomfortable, not SCARY uncomfortable for us…uncomfortable for accomplishing something.” Also his body language is full of self-touch especially on his leg which may indicate insecurity.

A fuller search of the neighbour’s property might be a good idea.
But correct me if I’m wrong, didn’t LE search their property in pretty much great detail? If I recall ? The neighbours gave an interview where they commented on this and mentioned how intrusive it was ( I cannot find the link for this at present but it was a few threads back iirc).

On day 11 of search for Jayme Closs, Barron residents remain vigilant

Hope this hasn’t already been posted. I didn’t have a chance to go through recent posts.
Someone calling and asking for Jayme? Definitely the trait of a serial killer, not implying that is what happened here. MOO
I’m more than confident that this phone call was some sort of sick prank.

It happens all the time in cases like this.

It is far more likely to be unrelated, than have some sort of connection.

LE would still pursue it though.

I was addressing the ties being restraints. I don't think they would want the public to see restraints still tied to a chair, for fear of speculation and revealing evidence to the public. If anything I would think they would cover it up with something. Jmo

Very smart point. I hadn't thought of that. But it rings true.

It looks like you embedded your post within my quote. You said, "Then maybe they should not have done so many interviews."

What do you mean by that? That because they did they are open for harsh criticism? Not here they're not.

I don't think anything about their body language or using her name is odd. They appear to be fairly normal. I just think the part about not knowing the neighbors have a child after living next to them for so long is odd. Again, not suggesting any wrongdoing on their part.

These are older people in a stressful situation. It can get confusing.
