Joan Smrekar has definitely stated it was 12.38 when she looked at the clock. Many of us here on WS on previous threads have thought she may have misread the time and it was 12.58; Minus the 7 minutes would place it at 12.51 - possibly the time of the attack at the Closs home?

12.51 - Gunshots heard, possibly killing James (or Denise) instantly?

12.53 - 911 call (Denise? Jayme?)

12.54 - 911 call ended (Denise? Jayme? Perp?)

12.55 - Perp takes Jayme and leaves.

It does fit the Sheriff's 4 minute timescale of events.

yeah, i think there's a good possibility it was 12:58. no offense to JS but maybe she doesn't have the best eyesight. i wear glasses and i know when i've looked over at my clock before without them on i've misread the time. as someone with terrible eyesight i can totally understand a 5 being mistaken for a 3 on a digital clock.

My apologies. I was being sarcastic because people insist to try to tie the 911 call log of the casino to Jim gambling and having loan sharks after him or something.
Today I kind of just hit a wall with this case. I mean it's been almost 3 months and still nothing. Not to be rude to anyone who has come on late but it is just like groundhog day sometimes. The same questions over and over.

I get it. It is impossible to go back and read 32 threads and for the most part we are all cordial to each other but just once in a while, when we are beating the same dead horse, all I can say is it got to me today and again I apologize. I'm sure I'll wake up tomorrow with a much better attitude.
I’ve been here from the beginning, too, reading every single post, so I get it. But the sarcasm wasn’t apparent to me and I could see someone else running with that statement as fact. You know how people are when they just skim or come in very late.

Could the neighbors be confused about the time as in actually their clock was seven mins slow?

It certainly would fit.

If someone else was shooting that night, why have they not come forward? Shooting at an animal is not forbidden.

How far away are other people to the Closs home?

The neighbors must have had their lights on but the perp (s) did not choose that house.

The neighbors are older than Jim. The Closs’s had a big pick up in the yard which would indicate, to me, a younger guy who may be a challenge to a perp. Yet, the perp (s) came anyway. That is why I think they were targeted.

What if by chance this perp was known to family.

Secondly, this perp previously had connection to family wifi

Oct 15th visit, if perp had phone on them, the IMEI log would appear on their wifi history log.

This is easy to find on a router.

I know they would need previous access to wifi, but do you believe the odds are the perp is not that close to the family, close enough in terms of once given the wifi password

I know, small sample size angle to think about

Think mentioned before, and I agree.. like your angle..

I think the problem is if know by family... but didn’t have a fight prior how would u know unless they brought phone...

I think whoever did this was in house atleast couple times and likely much more.

If they snapped cause of a slight week prior .. the router doesn’t help... but like where your heads at... I think digital trails will point in one direction...

Unrelated question or somewhat unrelated. If I'm out driving in my car and I need 911 and I call, then become unresponsive, what happens? Would they be able to locate me?
Enhanced 911 systems can find you wherever you are. I checked with my county and did a little experiment with their 911 system.

I don't doubt that the neighbors heard gunshots, I just don't believe that they are accurate with the time. I sure wish that LE would have done at least a well being check on all neighbors much earlier that the next morning. Maybe their time would have been more accurate
I can't believe they didn't. If a double homicide, abduction happened next door to me, I would expect them to do that immediately.

People here keep saying it was the sheriff but earlier it was said the FBI told her.

Odd, isn't it? The first time I heard the clock was wrong I swear it said the FBI told them. Now I find direct quotes that indicate it was the sheriff.

It isn't that odd. That has been the issue with the neighbors, nothing has been consistent.

I was thinking about the neighbors who heard the shots.
12:38 Seven minutes off because the Sheriff told them their clock was 7 mins off.

So that could make it 12:45. But the clock could have almost advanced to 12:39 so actually more like 12:46.

That could make it fit the timeline.

This is my pet crazy theory! :)

I wonder if maybe the sheriff and FBI were talking to them at the same time and the mix up was by MSM?

I remember it that way as well plus their address is not in the call log, lending to the fact it was a fed agent(s)...

Not always. There are always caveats. I have quite a bit of experience with these systems.

I know zero about cell phones. If the battery goes dead, would it register as a hang up?

I would think if Denise was using her phone, she would plug it in before it would get so low on battery.

Or it could indicate she was up that late and was preparing or had gone to bed and just plugged in her phone.

I would guess she had a plug in right by her bed?

I don't think they talked to them until later so how long does the log go on? And I wonder who contacted who first?

On that note, maybe James was shot at 12:30 and this is what the neighbors heard. Maybe it was not even the same shooter, gun nor motive. Trying to push myself to look from another perspective and from outside the box...

There are a number of valid scenarios because there are few hard facts. Some, like the actual TODs, we just don't know for sure. Mistakes, holding back evidence, etc. mean we can't be 100% sure. Things in the call log are about all we really have. The searcher dog found something, but "probably" a tablet. Etc.

What you're discussing here, ilovechili, is a scenario I wonder about, too.

They did not call, though. So there is no indication any LE went to their house that night ( or morning, really)

I was going by the interview the neighbors gave. Mrs. Smrekar said the sheriff told her the clock was off.

The neighbors were in bed. Maybe they park their vehicles in their garage. Do we know what their vehicles are?
Would be awfully coincidental if someone else was shooting at the same time as a double homicide.
Just pointing these things out because I have thought the same things. I think it was intentional too, but not directed at Jayme.
