Hello everyone, I’ve been a longtime Websleuths lurker but I thought I’d take the jump and make my first post. This case seems more and more like she was taken, by a stranger or someone she knows I’m not sure - but I’m leaning more towards someone she knew. Considering what the odds are about her being found safe, I think we should all start preparing for the worst :(

Welcome, cameras etc!

The sheriff called a meeting Wednesday evening with Barron County residents, but he barred reporters from attending, saying he wants to have a private dialogue with the people who elected him.

Bill Lueders, president of the Wisconsin Freedom of Information Council, called the decision to bar the media "offensive."

"The media are uniquely able to help, in terms of getting out information and encouraging people to share tips," Lueders said. "Does he want to find this girl, or does he just want to make a public display of his dislike for the press?"
Investigators have '100 percent expectation' that missing Wisconsin girl Jayme Closs is still alive
I applaud the decision to meet with the locals and bar the media. I wish they would have done that in Brooklyn, IA. This little town is going to find out real fast how much chaos the press, SM, and even amateur wannabe web sluethers can cause.

Something that stood out from the press conference for me also, was the police chief stressing multiple times to call the tip line with ANY information. And for property owners to walk their properties, check cabins, etc. I know that is good information to give out, but he really seemed to stress that, and it came across to me that I got the impression that they are thinking she is still in the area. I'm kind of speculating that they think someone in the area knows something and he was prompting them to call in a tip.
I'm several pages behind, but doesn't this sound very dangerous if the gun was not found at the scene? Let's say Jayme was kidnapped and the perp is hiding out with her in someone's cabin. Wouldn't that get an innocent person shot if they went snooping around?

But in an Amber Alert case where time is of the essence, shouldn't the media be included?

Glad you decided to come out of lurking.

According to that link, LE do believe Jayme was at home when her parents were murdered.
One thing that I guess is good is that they didn't find any or enough of her blood at the scene to presume that she was deceased.
I hated typing that. But it is what it is.

Fitzgerald said JC is in danger, but they “expect to find her alive.”
That is an interesting comment! I hope he is right.

<modsnip - removed off topic post>

That said, I feel like we are missing something here. Something right in front of us, know what I mean? I sure wish that we knew what Dad's shift was- such as did the poor man work over time, came home late? I know that this is way way way out there, but let's just say, Dad did come home, heard screaming going on in his house or some disturbance, and the front door was locked- is there any chance that he could have tried shooting through the door to open it up? Then the perp heard him and when he came through the door, shot him?

The police would be able to tell if either of their vehicles were recently used to come home from work, as the hood of the car would still be warm, and some cars make pinging sounds after they are shut off, especially in the cold.

Like others said, it was to see who showed up and who didn't...they didn't want the press there to make it more difficult...plus the press could have reported something that tipped of the suspects.

Missing Wisconsin girl's parents died from gunshots, Jayme Closs may have been there, sheriff says

Officials determined that James and Denise Closs died from gunshot wounds early Monday and ruled their deaths as homicides, Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said at an afternoon news conference. Further details about the autopsies were not available, and the murder weapon has not been found.

Fitzgerald on Wednesday said that information from the phone call and from inside the home led investigators to conclude that Jayme Closs was home at the time her parents were killed.

BBM This says Jayme was there when her parents were killed . Doesn't mention her being there during the call. Does anyone have a quote from the Sheriff stating she was there during the call ?

I too hope he’s right. The standard law enforcement practice is to assume that all kidnapping victims are alive, atleast until they are provided with strong evidence to the contrary.

For this reason, I don’t read much into this comment though.

Town Hall is in Rice Lake...Barron is so small, that when I interviewed at Jenny-O, the closest hotel was in Rice Lake. Rice Lake is a good 13 miles north of Barron...anyone that goes that far has to be of interest...or perhaps they are hoping that the suspect went north and someone in Rice Lake may have seen something.

Jayme’s grandfather, Robert Naiberg, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that nothing seemed amiss at a Sunday gathering, which was to celebrate the birthday of a grandson who is cousins with Jayme.

"She was quiet as always. She was a quiet girl," he said.

Naiberg, 72, said his daughter, Denise, and Jayme attended the party, and that his son-in-law, James, was working and couldn't make it. He described his daughter as a "thoughtful person" who brought "a little gift for everybody" at the party.
