Cnn says the death toll has been revised. 3 dead including the shooter

I’m just watching now and see the total has changed downward. Thankful for small mercies.

Apparently those injured are in very serious condition.

What is there to say anymore?

Kids getting their hands on guns. I suppose we will find out this young suspect will have some online rantings, or instead be someone that everyone thought was happy-go-lucky and this is a complete shock.

My prayers for the families, the parents of the shooter, and the school staff.

IMO ever since Columbine, each incident inspires the next.

Possibly a kid who was already emotionally on the knife's edge was inspired now by Luigi becoming famous.

Or not, since this child is dead. Was he (I guess a he) shot by LE or he killed himself?

Why? And we HAVE to do something. I'm so tired of losing our children and other vulnerable demographics. The sad part is that I'm becoming desensitized because there's been so many. It remains totally heartbreaking but not surprising anymore.

So the shooter will likely be someone who took a parent’s gun or somehow bought it off the internet using a parent’s credit card.

I’d bet the farm on him taking a parent or guardian’s gun. Almost always the case in these situations.

The other question is if the owner is still alive (sometimes these kids kill family members first). I do think we would have heard something by now though.

Presser Update:
Chief- "Today is a sad, sad day. Not only for Madison, but for our entire country."

Around 1057 officers responded to a call of an active shooter. When officers arrived they found multiple victims suffering gunshot wounds.

Practiced this two weeks ago. Stop the killing. Stop the dying. Find out who did this.

Juvenile believed to be responsible was found dead.

7 people transported to hospital. At least 3 people are dead including shooter. So two innocent people are dead.

Gun ownership is very common in WI. National average is about ~30%. Wi ownership rate is 43% (as of 2016). https://www.rand.org/research/gun-policy/gun-ownership.html

Now, Madison is a metro / urban area so certainly different from rural (hunting) WI but I can make an educated guess that folks here are generally comfortable with firearms. Another local may have better insights, as I am not super familiar with gun culture in general.

I think maybe they should withhold the shooter’s name. Give them no public coverage. Maybe that would deter the next could-be shooter. Nothing in it for them, not even infamy.
