This list covers YEARS 2000 to PRESENT.

I cannot imagine being in the shoes of these families & the community.

There was a shooting at a Seventh-Day Adventist school in California a week or so ago. AFAIK, nobody died except for the shooter, but two kindergarteners (!) were seriously injured. Apparently the shooter had an issue with the denomination, and had stopped at another SDA school in a nearby town but they weren't holding classes that day, or there was some other reason why he moved on.

Reminds me of the shooter at the Nashville Covenant School. Of course the motive may not be the same.

To be fair, they very well might not have. We don't know yet where she got the weapon, if there were any noticeable red flags, etc.

Absolutely. Police chief, fire chief, the other executives; all on point.
As you mention, the opposite of Uvalde.

I can’t imagine a second grader having to make that call and I’m surprised such a young one had a phone. I guess it’s becoming more common, but my grandkids didn’t have them until they were older.

In all the ways this tragedy is heartbreaking, that little child will never forget having to do that, but it was brave and got the rescuers there quickly.

CNN was saying Natalie had some writing that expressed a troubled mentality.

I wonder if that means online, on social media; or instead in notes or letters?

Teaching English for 25 years, one part of the job was not only reviewing essays for content, grammar and the other literary and mechanical aspects, but reading assiduously to see if there were threats and/or cries for help.

If I spotted anything, even a suspicious drawing in a margin (gun, etc.) then I had to immediately contact the guidance counselor or the assistant principal.

One wonders how many times we as individuals and the country as a whole can bear this endless cycle of killing children.

IMO, as the shooter’s parents are cooperating, from what we know to this point I wouldn’t categorize them as similar to the Crumbley parents. In that case they were directly told about their son’s proclivities and yet did nothing except buy him a gun.

I suppose it will depend on what Natalie’s parents knew about her being troubled, and if they attempted to keep the gun locked up.

Obviously she had a gun, but as pertaining to any culpability on the part of the parents, I don’t see it, at least not yet.

I listen to KMFDM and have seen them in concert. It is a genre of music commonly known as industrial music that combines synths, big beats, and guitars, and it happens to be my favorite type of music. KMFDM were unfortunately cited by the Columbine shooters too and took a hard stand against their actions back in 1999. They would not support what happened in this case either. I met Sascha at their show and he was calm, cool, friendly, and down to earth. One of their famous songs is “A Drug Against War,” in which they describe their own music as being just that. They do not support this kind of violence. It is often an angry, abrasive type of music that can attract the down and out though.

Let’s not judge (and not saying you personally are) based on the type of music she listened to, as I have listened to this style of music since high school and have never hurt anyone. I happen to be a high school teacher of 27 years and lead vocalist, keyboard player, and songwriter for two industrial bands over the years myself! While industrial music is a counterculture movement that can draw some interesting types of people, I love the energy of the music.

Recognised the name straight away because it's one of the favourite bands of a German friend of mine. She is a university lecturer in Chile (with several academic articles and awards to her name) and one of the most peaceful people one could ever come across, devoted (along with her boyfriend) to volunteer in animal shelters in her spare time. I could not agree more with your comment about let's not judge people based on the music they listen to.

I can only imagine what a lot of people would think of us, members of Websleuths, if they knew we participated in this site. We would get funny looks and judgement too, and it would be undeserved one.

It has not been confirmed, but the teacher who was shot and killed may have been a substitute, according to a local Pastor quoted in the MSM article, below.

Police have not yet publicly identified the victims. Names will not be released until after officers speak with family members who lost loved ones in Monday's shooting.

According to Pastor Chris Dolson, who was speaking at a vigil for the victims on Monday night, the teacher may have been a substitute.

"There's a woman who called in sick today. She's a teacher. And there was a substitute that came in to take her place that was shot and killed," Dolson said. "Survivor guilt kicks in when those things happen."

CBS News has not independently confirmed the teacher's identity.

I'm hearing that she was 17, and "Samantha" may not necessarily be an alias. Maybe her given name is Natalie Samantha or Samantha Natalie?
