WI - Madison, school shooting at Abundant Life Christian School 16 Dec 2024

Has any school shooter not committed suicide? If so, does anyone know if they have ever spoken about their crime, motive, etc? I was the same age as the Columbine shooters when it happened. I know they made some type of video and had journal entries, I just wonder what goes through their minds.

Kip Kinkel survived and was imprisoned after being subdued by heroic peers. I know he blamed voices in his head after being arrested. He was eventually diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

Luke Woodham. Pearl, MS 1997. He didn't get the chance to kill himself or the others he planned to kill because a school administrator had a gun in his car, retrieved it and stopped him as he was leaving the campus. That administrator saved many other lives that day. Unfortunately, he killed his mother and the family dog before opening fire on his high school classmates killing two and injuring 7 others. He sits in prison today claims to be repentant and born again Christian.

Nikolas Cruz, the Parkland shooter.

This article contains a lot of information that Cruz told a prosecution psychiatrist.

This one has stuck with me. Two boys, 11 and 13, pulled the fire alarm to get everyone outside at their Arkansas middle school, in 1998.

Killed five people and tried to run away, but were arrested.

There are a few ways they are considering in which to enforce it. At the moment, they involve determining a person's age through a couple of means (not them just ticking a box to say they are over 16). But the law won't come into effect for a year, so we will see what they come up with.

It is throwing the responsibility back on the social media companies to actually TRY to keep the children safe. (And face repercussions if they don't.)

There is a lot about it in this article.

The onus to date has been falling on the parents and the children themselves, and this law is the government making a very definitive statement and saying: We need to put the burden back on you, companies, just like we did with car manufacturers 60 years ago with seatbelts.
And now, there's so much lifesaving technology in our cars, like anti-lock brakes and airbags, that we take for granted. Back then, the car manufacturers pushed back, but now they compete on safety.
This law is really aimed at making normative change, that the onus should fall on platforms.

How will Australia's under-16 social media ban work? We asked the law's enforcer
All my opinion...
Interesting suggesting using AI hand motions to determine age, BUT MUST insure non discrimination. I don't see any US company signing on due potential HUGE liability. Nope.

Many states in the US, Virginia being mine, have banned 🤬🤬🤬🤬 site for under 18 year olds. If you try to access in Virginia, the entire site is blocked with a message referring to VA law.

Moo...the only way to guarantee 16 and under do not access social media is to block access for ALL. I don't see FB, X, Instagram and Tictoc risking 50k fines and other government regulations. The risk outweighs any financial return. They will just shut down, as we see in many other countries.
Censorship of Facebook - Wikipedia

At times, here on Websleuths, members ask for summary of US media articles they are unable to access. I'm not sure if some governments block the site or if the website blocks from certain countries. Can anyone comment on this?

There was a very interesting article recently on kids who have access to cell phones and social media. It was comparing the 'touch' rewards similar to training a dog. Kids click and like the more they get a 'reward'. I will try to find the article and post it. The Dr. basically said children should not have access to a cell phone or social media until they are at least 16 or 17 and should not have access to them while at school. Let me try to find the article.
MOO.....Parents have control and most choose not to use it. Phones can be set to block sites, no phone/internet blocks by scheduled times. I know, my grandkids under 16 have these blocked. They even block the home Internet and cable after 8:30 every night on their devices.

Virginia In School Cell Phone Ban takes effect Jan 1. Schools are using various techniques to comply. Some turn in/lock up daily, others using a locking "pouch" preventing a signal. No smart watches, no tablets, or personal computers on any campus. Punishment polices including 1st) parent has to pick up, counseling - 2nd) in school detention/parent counseling, 3rd) suspension/parent counseling, legal action. Exceptions are made for medical devices - insulin monitoring and deliver.

....
Beginning Jan. 1, 2025, students must turn off their phones and keep them stored away all day, including during lunch and between class periods, according to the guidance the Virginia Department of Education released Tuesday.

What footage are you referring to?
In an earlier thread on here someone had stated that they were showing footage of the shooting and other shootings on a reddit post.

I just read your link you posted. That is so heart breaking. It makes you wonder if some people are born evil or if its environmental..

I'm a retired teacher (36 years), and I have contempled your born evil vs environment several times.

One prime example I recall was a high school druggie, runaway, in trouble at school, school transferred twice, never graduated female. She even lied in one school encounter and said her mother was dead. Mother had to prove to school she was her mother. In juvenile detention center. Psychiatric help did nothing.

Now, at age 45, this woman is an alcoholic, cheated on all prior husbands, one cheat with brother of husband. On another cheating episode she actually had her husband take her to airport, pick her up after a fake business trip, which was nothing more than spending a week with another man. She is now onto marriage #4. She constantly lies about education and experience on resumes. I know her family who have totally disconnected with her after she cheated with her sister's fiance, ending that relationship. This female's brothers and sister didn't get into trouble in school, are normal people with normal jobs and children. They had the same environment, a stable family. So, was she born evil?

Is she evil? Let’s be clear about what evil looks like. We read about evil here a lot. She doesn’t sound evil to me. She sounds like she has poor impulse control with few/low morals.

Evil definition: morally reprehensible : sinful, wicked arising from actual or imputed bad character or conduct
Poor impulse control and low morals certainly fall under this definition. I deliberatly didn't mention her two children (different fathers) who she left at home with husbands while she catted around. She flunked out of AA, refused to go back.

To me, evil is a lot worse than this person you describe. (Although I will also say I'm glad I don't know her!)

Merriam Webster definition of evil.

The people she's left in her wake probably think she's evil.

The boy who committed a shooting at my junior high in 1972 didn't commit suicide, then or ever, to my knowledge. I went there just a few years later, and never knew about it until I read about it on that school's Facebook page. He didn't shoot anyone, but he did fire a few bullets into a wall before a teacher tackled him.
