Nearly a year after the suspicious death of a 13-year old girl in Iowa County, a source with knowledge of the teen’s living arrangement tells 27 News she was being cared for by a former Madison man through a church connection at the time of her death.

“He was fostering her through a church group,” the source tells 27 News.

The 47-year old man and his family were renting the nearly thirty-five acre property at 1049 Miller Road in the Town of Madison when the teenager died May 31, 2018.

The man continues to rent the property, which includes a house and a separate, smaller living quarters.
...
The source with knowledge of the girl’s time with the Town of Mineral Point family does not know what church was the catalyst for the child’s presence in Iowa County, or whether the church is in Wisconsin. The source also does not know if the foster care was a formal placement.
One year later, new details surface in the death of Iowa County teen

I didn't save my files from prior snooping, er I mean sleuthing but there's info out there - it just takes some time. There is/was an alpaca buisiness associated with the property but owned by people with a different last name, not Barry.

Ask and you will receive. Update:

Court documents state that the Barrys caused extensive trauma to the chest and limbs of Selah Kaden, 13, causing a fracture of the left wrist, subcutaneous hemorrhaging in the left forearm and intra-thoracic acute hemorrhaging to the heart and right lung. Evidence was also found of possible restraint marks on both wrists and signs of manual smothering.

According to the criminal complaint, the Barrys told investigators that the injuries Kaden had sustained were self-sustained, caused by habitually faking fainting and hitting herself against objects. An autopsy reported conducted by forensic pathologists found that the injuries were not consistent with the claims of self-injury and were more likely the results of blunt forced pattern beating.

Kaden was brought to the Barry residence on April 24, 2018 to be taken care of while Kaden’s parents addressed medical issues regarding their other daughter. Kaden’s parents and the Barrys had known each other since approximately 2000, meeting each other while their children attended the same school in Madison, Wis.

Court documents state that the Barry family was aware of Kaden’s behavioral issues and planned with her parents and therapist to address it while under their care. Kaden’s parents did give permission to the Barry family to spank Kaden if it was deemed necessary.

When interviewed by police, Laurie Barry stated she had spanked Kaden three times, but there was no other physical discipline administered.UPDATE: Documents: Mineral Point mother, daughter fatally beat, suffocated teen

Who is the therapist? What was the treatment modality?

This poor child! They tortured her to death. Best not to mention the “families” who were supposed to care and nurture her if I don’t want a time out :(

An ensuing autopsy showed the scope of the girl's injuries. The doctor found "acute and mixed blunt head trauma" and facial injuries, as well as heart, lung and chest injuries "consistent with a blackjack or similar (club-type) device."

New update:

"She would fall, according to Laurie, dozens of time between her arrival and death.

The falls seemed to be calls for attention, as she would only do it when others were around.

The complaints say Laurie watched Selah throw herself to the ground in the Barry dining room, get up and say she was mad at her parents and would show them they were wrong for sending her to live with the Barrys.

The complaint singles out a number of alleged falls, including one where Selah injured her wrist, and twice when she fell onto gravel and then down a set of steps leading to the backyard.

Alexis Barry said Selah’s behavior worsened as the young girl became more comfortable with the Barry family." Criminal complaint: Suspects in Iowa County teen’s death tell one story, autopsy tells another

And on the day she died, her parents were called but her abusers seemed unfazed by her condition (Criminal complaint: Suspects in Iowa County teen’s death tell one story, autopsy tells another):

On the day Selah died, Alexis and Laurie recall two bad falls.

Alexis said she was in the kitchen between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on May 31 when Selah “fell backwards, falling harder than she meant to and hitting her head pretty hard on the floor or possibly the bookshelf,” the criminal complaints said.

Laurie described another bad fall to investigators that same day, sometime after 11:30 a.m. where Selah faked fainting, whipping her head back and again “hitting the floor or possibly the bookshelf.”

Laurie and Alexis describe checking on Selah throughout the afternoon and calling Selah’s parents.

Laurie first called David and told him Selah was faking an injury, but later called Lisa twice. On the second call, made just before 4:30 p.m., Lisa said Laurie sounded afraid and admitted something was wrong, according to the complaint.

Throughout the afternoon, Laurie and Alexis told investigators that Selah was breathing and her color was good.

Laurie, according to the criminal complaint, said Selah’s condition had not changed until Jesse Barry got home.

Jesse called 9-1-1 at 4:39 p.m., and EMT’s rushed Selah to Upland Hills Health.

One of the EMTs is cited in the complaints as believing none of Selah’s caregivers seemed concerned with her condition.

Wow, thank you so much for finding this! It's about time - so much mystery surrounded the girl's death this past year. Selah Kaden.
This story is very local to me and I can't tell you how hush hush this has been. So many people have wondered what happened to this girl but all agencies were very tight lipped. - Which is almost unheard of in such a small town where everyone seems to know everyone's business.

“Laurie D. Barry, 50, and her daughter Alexis E. Barry, 27, both of Mineral Point, both are charged with first-degree reckless homicide-party to a crime for the death of Selah Kaden, 13, on May 31, 2018, but they have not been arrested, according to Lafayette County officials. Their first court hearing is set for July 9.”

This article, and the parent blaming, does not appear to be what happened here. The Re-homing article deals with a couple who sexually abused two children in AZ, in 2015.

All current reports claim the suspects were temporarily watching Selah.

And, it has been stated in the articles about Selah that one of her siblings had also been placed with the Barry family for a period of time.

On another note, I have not yet found social media for either of the accused or Selah.
