NOT GUILTY WI - Selah Kaden, 13, Suspicious Death, Mineral Point, 31 May 2018 *arrests*

  • #161
Absolutely, he should be charged. The LEO and the DA have moved in very slow and confusing ways in the case-- very different than most I have seen here and in the news. Although he appears to have been an RN, it also appears that he rarely practiced and was not ever successfully employed as a nurse. One does have to wonder why, given some of the history that contributed to losing his license, he has not been named in any fashion in this case.

He WAS a practicing nurse with UW. I don't know how many years. He gave up his license to be a missionary which did not work out. I don't believe he was forced to give it up.

girl/1130264671

DODGEVILLE, Wis. - An Iowa County judge said Tuesday there is enough probable cause to try Laurie and Alexis Barry for the death of 13-year-old Selah Kaden.
[.....]
During the preliminary hearing, detectives were questioned on what EMTs, doctors and the Barrys said the night of Kaden's death.
[.....]
"There's patterned injury to Selah suggesting a tool or weapon," said Dr. Michael Stier, a forensic pathologist who conducted the autopsy.

He found that Kaden's cause of death was suffocation and blunt force patterned beating.

of course, no further court dates in article....
Yesssssssssssss. Justice for Selah.

The Kadens had been friends with these people when they lived in the same area. How could they have not known that there were issues in this family? The husband was convicted of the theft and had been arrested for dv. It makes no sense that a parent would send their kids to live in this family.

Oh, I'm sure they played the "we are good Christians just like you, who have been persecuted by an uncaring government, etc., etc." card.

Really nobody who knew them saw this coming. They were an insular family but there was no evidence of this kind of behavior. That being said, the medical examiner's findings are pretty damning and disproves a lot of what they are claiming. It sounds like somebody totally lost it that morning, and when they realized what they'd done they began concocting a story and setting up a false timeline. That they could do that for hours with a dead child on the floor is just monstrous.

Frankly I think it is stupid to adopt. You have no idea of the genetics, the mental problems you are taking on nor the lifelong health problems you are incurring. And that is not considering the often case of the adopted child resenting you eventually for not being of their race and background. My personal opinion. HOWEVER, it is unfair to characterize every Christian who adopts as phony, virtue signaling, and without true compassion, just because you have a dim view of Christianity or faith.
As in most all other character traits, it is not in the professing, it's in the actions proving the protestation. I was very "religious" but not so much anymore. My character has not changed nor my values simply because I no longer attend. Nor is a character necessarily enhanced or bad character "fixed" by attending. Really DNA and inherent character determine such things as well as your early bringing up. Values taught by a hypocrite don't stick. It is possible to have genuine, loving, non-hypocritical believers, but they are as hard to find as in the non-believing world.

I agree that many fine selfless Christian individuals have adopted from Asian countries in the past.

This murdering family, however, did not even adopt a child from China, let alone being good kind sincere Christians - they were taking care of someone else’s adopted child, and I’m not even sure we can guarantee that this horrible pair didn’t treat Selah badly and the other Kaden child well, because they’re racists in the bargain.

Both children were adopted from China. Racist is an assumption. It try to stick to facts in evidence or facts found elsewhere.
I have never been a big fan of hate crime laws or sentencing. Murder or assault is murder or assault. What somebody was thinking at the time of the deed is to me immaterial. I have rejected the hate crime rationale for a long time due to it's likelihood it would be misused, and was proven right when the DOJ (That's Department of JUSTICE) FORMALLY announced that ONLY white people could commit hate crimes. Bottom line though, this family committed murder or participated in the coverup and they all belong in jail. The two women for a very long time.

I do not believe there has ever been a “formal announcement” of this nature from the DOJ in regard to federal hate crimes laws. The FBI and DOJ’s own websites indicate no such restriction on the race of an assailant in a hate crime. Hate Crimes — FBI
From DOJ, here’s a pretty recent example of a non-white person being charged with a federal hate crime: Oregon Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Hate Crime for Threatening Shooting Spree at Eugene Church
Additionally, here are some statistics on hate crimes from the DOJ’s own 2017 report:
Hate Crime Statistics

“Of the 6,370 known offenders:
  • 50.7% were White
  • 21.3% were Black or African American
  • 19.1% race unknown”

That's true, but the Dept within the DOJ that supervises and launches hate crimes formally. made the announcement I referenced. This was under Obama, but their activities were biased before his tenure. I was not, however, stating the DOJ should or did imply a hate motive in this particular crime. I was responding to the unfounded allegation by another poster this MIGHT have had a hate crime motivation. Nobody knows what was in the mind of the perpetrators, but does it really matter? The girl is dead.

I'll pass on that. Thanks for suggesting. I'd only be speculating as most here are. Really, nobody who was not on scene at the time of the incident, or was not involved with the family just prior or after, has no facts to contribute. Those who did know them prior to this are aghast - never saw this in them. But people change. And this IS a cautionary example of how one can ruin the rest of their life in one moment of loss of control and anger. It could happen to any of us if stress upon stress were piled on and we had a difficult person we were dealing with. MOST of us would show remorse, and would have called for medical help upon seeing what we'd done though, at least I'd like to believe that. For an entire family to apparently engage in a cover up with easily disproven statements and lies and do so for hours is what most astonishes me. I don't assume their guilt from knowing them. I believe them guilty due to the fine work the medical examiner did and the statements of the investigators, and the family's bizarre behavior witnessed and testified to.

“Selah is my sister! My parents adopted 6 of us from china and 2 biological. My parents also sent me to this family as well due to some behavioral issues and honestly i was livid at my adopted parents for sending me to them. The family i stayed with did alot of inappropriate things and apparently i was told my adopted parents knew everything about it. To make it short, i honestly believed my adopted parents knew what happened to my sister. All of this is not right!!!”

I found this post on Facebook on a news article about the case. I followed the post to the profile of the writer, and she is in fact Selah’s sister. She no longer lives with the Kadens either.

I also started looking into where all of the Kaden’s adopted children live. Of the 6, only three live with them now. Another daughter seems to live in Iowa with another family.

I am deeply disturbed that Selah was sent to live with the Barrys given the first daughter’s experience with them.

I found a link to that news article: News 3 Now / Channel 3000
Unfortunately, the information was in a post and not by the reporter or news station. It doesn't mean it's false but I think we need to see confirmation in msm in order to discuss it.

Hopefully someone will encourage the poster to speak out to msm and maybe even come here and become verified. IMO this case really deserves scrutiny; where are all the investigative reporters? MOO.

In order for true justice to happen for Selah, her sibling and others impacted by these horrible monsters are going to have to come forward. If her parents are not speaking out and demanding an accounting, then those who loved Selah and strangers will have to become the watch dogs to ensure she gets justice. I hope Selah's sister gives more interviews and speaks out in court since she had been abused by these people (by her own account).
