This is going to be an interesting trial.

On 23rd August, 2022, Stephanie Pavlons drove her boyfriend, Matthew Pahl to an appointment at an orthopedic clinic in Pewaukee.
After his appointment, Matthew returned home along with Stephanie's phone, purse and water bottle... but without Stephanie.
Matthew did not report report Stephanie missing.

Her body was found two weeks later in a wooded area right next to the clinic. In the Summer heat, her body was so badly decomposed that a cause or manner of death could not be established.

Police found no weapon, no blood, no DNA linking Matthew Pahl to the body.

But, what they did find is some rather interesting circumstantial evidence. For instance, he never tried to contact Stephanie's family to enquire about her whereabouts, but even before her body was discovered he searched google over and over again for "Stephanie Pavlons Obituary".

He now stands trial for her murder.

I am so tired of violence against women, committed by the men they love.

They were together on and off for more than twenty years. It seems to me that if he didn't love her anymore, he could have just ended the relationship.
Why kill her?

It wasn't just that he didn't love her anymore, he was actively abusing her physically and emotionally. He used her for access to her drug prescriptions among other things. Basing my opinion on this on listening to day 4 of testimony, specifically her journal entries and the photos of her past injuries from incidents of abuse by him.

  • A Waukesha County judge sentenced Matthew Pahl on Tuesday, Nov. 11, to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
  • Pahl was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse in the death of his girlfriend, Stephanie Pavlons.
  • Pahl was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison on the hiding a corpse charge.
