When I read that, my immediate thought was off-label use by doctor's of FDA approved drugs. Off label use is quite common. Once a drug has been approved by the FDA, it can be prescribed for anything. However, since the FDA has not approved it for those conditions, it is considered non-FDA approved for that condition.

Whereas OTC or illegal drugs are not usually referred to as FDA approved so it would be strange to refer to them as non-FDA approved.

IMO.

Aren't OTC drugs supposed to be approved by the FDA? I would think a non FDA approved drug would be something that would fall under the dietary "supplement" category.

I think they mean FDA approved drugs being used for purposes they weren't approved for, because of their effects on other systems. Kinda like when minoxidil was noted to have hair-growing effects, or cytotec caused spontaneous abortions, or welbutrin diminished the desire to smoke, etc. So it could be she was prescribed this medicine, but for a purpose not approved by the FDA. Without further information it's hard to say. IMO, she was taking herbal, 'natural' meds of some sort.

Non FDA approved drug use can be can be for different reasons:

...Most OTC drugs are FDA approved for a particular use

...Health food products are not FDA approved and can cause havoc within the body

...A prescription drug used for an OFF LABEL use does not have FDA approval.

EX: Cancer drug approved for one type of cancer and used to treat another.
http://www.cancer.org/Treatment/Tre...reatmentTypes/Chemotherapy/off-label-drug-use

Other reasons a drug is not FDA approved:
Street drugs Schedule I are not approved for medical use

Right now the FDA is at war over many drugs being used for off label uses - some of these drugs have resulted in death.

BBM..I respectfully disagree..

You stated..Desiree referred to one of Terri's past marriages, saying Terri wouldn't tell the truth about it"..
My understanding was/is Desiree was referring to Terri and Kaine's relationship and how it began...NOT any of her previous marriages...JMO

http://blogs.wweek.com/news/tag/desiree-young/

Young says Terri Horman was a frequent liar about matters large and small.

“She can’t even tell the truth about her divorce or, you know, how she met Kaine, any of that,” Young says.

Yes they are FDA approved. I was talking about they way they are referred. Most people do not refer to OTC as FDA approved. Most people do not refer to natural and/or herbal and/or dietary as non-FDA approved.

When I hear FDA, I think of prescription drugs.

Thanks, Calliope. Chump also referred to: OTC or illegal drugs are not usually referred to as FDA approved so it would be strange to refer to them as non-FDA approved.

I just wasn't sure. I thought that over the counter drugs would need FDA approval as well.

Yeah, I was thinking something herbal, or natural too. I guess it could also be something purchased off the internet, or something. Probably not all that important anyway. I think this article is just kind of "filler" because there is a lull in the real information in this case.

Oh, I see. I guess when we hear about FDA approval in the news it is usually some new prescription, so yeah I can see that. Sorry for the confusion.

In my opinion, the most interesting statement in the article was, "Neighbors report they've heard gunfire coming from the property for hours on end".

It sounds like this is a new thing.

I wonder if Kaine is just learning to shoot. I wonder if this is some kind of stress reliever, or, if he is target practicing because he feels he may have to protect himself and loved ones against an enemy? And, who might that enemy be?

I would have to imagine finding out that your wife tried to put out a hit on you would be unnerving.

Maybe he fears his life is still in danger? Does he worry Terri may still come after him herself? Or show up with a gun of her own to take the baby?

His little boy is missing, he has been told by the authorities his wife tried to have him murdered.

He must feel as if he has entered some kind of alternate reality, or something. Poor man.

They are; of course herbals have the disclaimer that they haven't been approved, etc.

IIRC, wasn't it brought out when the RO was filed that they didn't have firearms in the house? I seem to remember that conversation because Terri was forbidden to own or purchase a gun. Maybe Kaine bought one for protection. Can't blame him.

BUT, if I remember correctly it was that he didn't know if TH had access to a gun.

If he is shooting off a gun he knew that TH had access to it.

IF he had recently purchased it I would bet my house that we would have seen that in the news.

JMO, of course

He may have purchased online or it could be a loaner or a gift from a friend or relative.

Are you allowed to purchase guns online?

Isn't it illegal to have a gun w/out a permit?

Note: I am NOT bashing Kaine-just curious

Thank you - I needed a laugh!

I agree that Caine might have bought a gun for his own protection and he's learning to shoot. Who could blame him?

I don't know about Oregon, but in Texas you can buy online, and you don't need a permit to have a gun. When you buy online, you just have to have it shipped to someone with a FFL. Federal Firearms License.

Also, if someone else bought it for him, I don't think that would be legal.

With all the law enforcement attention on him, I doubt that Kaine skirted or broke the gun laws to get it though.

Definitely cannot buy a gun online unless it is through Craigslist or some local listing. It really depends on state laws. Most states require some sort of background check. Once one passes that, then one might have to submit to a waiting period before actually picking the gun up from the store. Here in TX, we can apply for a carry and conceal permit. That means we can carry a concealed weapon on person or in a vehicle. But TX laws are a LOT different from OR laws, I'm sure, when it comes to firearms.

Basically, most can buy a gun if they are not a felon or have some sort of restraining court order. Wal-Mart's sell guns as do most outdoorsy type of stores like Gander Mountain.

I don't know much about guns. Wondering if a person can target shoot just anywhere? Can a person legally target shoot on their own property? Are there laws regulating such hobbies? ?TIA
