Winter Storm Nemo: Nor'easter Looms

  • #101
Hi there... I'm in Halifax, Nova Scotia here... Canada's east cost.
The Weather channel is all red !!!! Blizzard forecast for tomorrow!!!!
I was going to make homemade meatballs in the crockpot for the event and decided to switch those to today in case we don't have power tomorrow...
so now I have steaks marinating for a possible bbq in the blizzard tomorrow :) (and a box of pinot grigiot for the snowbank - hehe)
Take care everyone...stay strong and warm :)

Just like a hardy Canadian.....barbecuing steaks in a blizzard and wondering why all those Americans are freaking out over a mere two foot of snow!

Now you've done it basilcat....making my grocery list for the store and I've got to have some steaks! You made my mouth water. It's going to be 40ish degrees today, but I'm a pansy and will not be barbecuing them outside.

well, we ended up with about 6" here; no school for DD, and no work for me (though technically I'm supposed to be working from home right now - shhhhhh).

i *think* it might still be snowing a little, but i'm not sure if that's just blowing....

We got dumped on overnight - a good 13" to snowblow this morning...but they called off schools at 10pm last night. Got to work safely!! Our road crews were on top of this one :)

Stay safe all you in the NE!

I went to bed after the headlines of local news at 11:00. WDIV was still hyping the storm, but there was no sign of snow where I live. Got up to pee at 1:30 - still no snow. DH got up to pee (I was asleep) at 2:30 when there was still no snow. I got up again @4:00 when there was about 2". DH cleared the driveway before leaving at 7:00, but it is now covered again. My best guess is that we've had 4.5" with continuing flurries. There are over 600 school closings (districts, parochial, private) in the tri-county area (Metro Detroit). Glad that I don't have to venture out. Be safe.

The packy was...well, packed lol... But did manage to get my beer.
If I am shut in the house with no power for many days with four kids, I will need it. :D

BBM:

Package store, lol! Down here in Louisiana the liquor store was called 'package store' about 25 years ago. Blue Laws were in effect then. You could still get your liquor and beer even when you weren't supposed to if you had the right hookups! Then several years ago people down here decided that they needed their adult refreshments on Sunday's as well, so Sunday sales were allowed after 12 noon.

Seriously though, please be careful, stock up, and stay warm!

Mother Nature has ramped it up a bit in the extreme Southwest part of Ontario over the past hour or so. We awoke to a couple inches of snow with a thin layer of ice underneath but now the wind and snow have picked up causing some whiteout conditions. It's funny how Canada is supposed to be the land of snow and winter but we get up in arms when a snowstorm hits. Wonder if Toronto will call in the army again? :dramaqueen:

Within the last 15-20 minutes, the wind has kicked up and snow is blowing from the roof like a whiteout. I'm officially declaring this a pajama day :D

Snowing kinda hard now, but both systems haven't "united" yet...This is the southern system snow. The worst is supposed to hit 6:00 pm on...

Ours has been on and off, fairly light at the moment. Not even a dusting yet.

I did get out some food and two boxes with warm nests of old sweatshirts in them for my stray kitty. Hopefully he comes around looking for food and finds one of them!

Everyone stay safe!

I have NO idea why it's a package store, or WHY we are so liberal in so many ways but our liquor laws are absurdly puritanical.

Respectfully snipped - OT - We went to Orlando and stayed the night for a concert. Mr. Scuba asks the valet where is the closest package store? The valet looks at his buddy and answers "You mean like UPS?" :floorlaugh:

LOL, I think of a brown paper bag as a "package" ya know, smut....Hum, secrect? stuff?

On Topic, snowing here (Mid-CT) and it's supposed to get really bad 6 hrs. from now...

Snowing since last night here. I'm in that dreaded "yellow circle" for the 2 feet area.... (MAYBE closer to 3 feet depending on how the storms converge) We are between Great Bay, NH and open ocean in very very southern Maine, but not directly on the coast. Winds (sustained) predicted at 35-50 mph this afternoon.

The wood stove is readied.

I have to say, it is gorgeous! Local channels calling it snowmageddon.

:D

Funny! I think I would have told you the same thing...except added K-Mart has boxes and gift wrap cheaper.

Umpteen million years ago when I worked in a store we had to put all alcoholic purchases in a bag by law. Bags were paper at that time.

Yikes just heard Boston may have up to FIVE foot snow drifts!

When we had three foot snow drift on our front door some years ago, had to push the door open wide enough to get a small camping shovel out and scoop enough snow away from the door until hubby could squeeze himself outside to shovel. If you were looking from the street you'd see just a hand shoveling snow halfway up the door. Of course parts of the yard you could see the grass! No such luck with the door being clear and three foot in the back yard.

My son is one of those MIT math nerds  Classes just started at MIT this past week...

http://www.myfoxboston.com/story/20993431/2013/02/06/blizzard-watch-issued-for-parts-of-mass

That's awesome, hubby and I (both nerds, but definitely not MIT material!) admire the heck out of the MIT kids. You must be wicked proud, as we say here. :)

Hope he and all the young folks in town come through without too much trouble!

Gov has issued a driving ban this afternoon, first since '78.
