They lowered our expected totals to 4-7 inches. And yet, my weatherman looks downright nervous now.

My neck of the woods, M-59 corridor, has been downgraded to the 2-4" range from 4-8" (per WDIV). Our storm is mostly from the Alberta Clipper while the east coast will result from the Nor'easter. Local forecasters don't seem to know where and when the two storms will merge.

Be safe.

'Stay off the roads': East Coast residents warned to stay home as winter storm approaches

http://www.nbcnews.com/travel/trave...dents-warned-stay-home-winter-storm-1B8290274

As a menacing and powerful blizzard takes aim at the East Coast, airlines are canceling hundreds of flights and some cities are bluntly telling their residents: Don't travel if you don't have to.

“I want to stress that the best thing everyone can do Friday and Saturday is to stay home. Stay off the roads, stay safe,"said Boston Mayor Thomas Menino. ...............

The system has already affected Chicago’s O’Hare International, where snow and ice delayed arriving flights by more than two hours at one point on Thursday afternoon. More than 80 flights scheduled to depart from the airport were canceled, according to FlightAware.com.............

If you are scheduled to fly in the next couple of days, here is a list of airlines offering fee waivers due to the storm:...........more...........

Scary!

Yeah Gardenlady I'd hate to be in a 34.3 inch snow fall!:floorlaugh: Please stay safe!

Incredible...over 43 inches of snow projected for Portsmouth!

I really really hope the snowfall will not measure up to the computer model.

My kids' schools were both cancelled before they even got home this afternoon. I don't usually believe it when they say we're going to get walloped, but I do this time. Fine by me, as long as the power doesn't go out.

Same thing here, Nurse, I'm looking at the radar and going, how is that right there and nothing happening? LOL.

But, everywhere it's already hit has school closed, so it must be leaving something in it's wake.

ETA: Nevermind. I just looked out and it has finally started snowing.

It's only been snowing for an hour and a half and I already can't see my truck. WOULD THEY JUST CALL SCHOOL ALREADY?

Sorry, I had to have a moment there...
I say this knowing that if they do call school, it won't happen until 5:00 a.m. like last time, so that the automated ReachOut phone call can wake up everyone in the house, including the kids that won't go back to sleep no matter what I do...

We're real close to the 34.3 -- about under the tail of the 3. On a hill that usually gets three or four inches more than the surrounding area. It should be exciting tomorrow...

I have family in eastern Canada that will get hit fairly hard in the storm, many of them fishermen. Thank God they are all in, but I worry about their boats as that is their life's saving tied to the wharf.

  • #78
I hope they get through okay. It's supposed to be a lot worse along the coast, with hurricane-force winds and high tides.

Ontario:

Ontario is bracing for what forecasters say could be the worst snowstorm in more than four years, and police are warning of very treacherous driving conditions.

Environment Canada says the storm, which began bearing down on the province Thursday, will leave a large swath of Ontario painted white by Friday night.

USA:

In the United States, a blizzard of potentially historic proportions threatened to strike the Northeast with a vengeance Friday, with up to 60 centimetres of snow forecast along the densely populated corridor from the New York City area to Boston and beyond.

Boston: A blizzard of potentially historic proportions threatened to strike the Northeast with a vengeance on Friday, with up to two feet of snow forecast along the densely populated corridor from the New York City area to Boston and beyond.

Halfway through what was looking like a merciful winter, people stocked up on food and other storm supplies, and road crews along the East Coast readied salt and sand ahead of what forecasters warned could be one for the record books.

Boston and Providence, Rhode Island, called off school on Friday, and airlines canceled more than 2,600 flights and counting, with the disruptions certain to ripple across the US
