Winter Storm Nemo: Nor'easter Looms

Same here in Clifton Park. Wind is picking up just a bit,but not much snow.By the way, good turn out last weekend in Toga for the Chowderfest. I enjoyed myself a bit too much however. Too much fest, not enough chowder!
Chowderfest is always fun, next weekend is the Dance Flurry, lots of great music. They sure know how to get the crowds in here, and that is a good thing.

It's getting windy here, just went out. They are already clearing the roads. They should have got them to leave earlier. Is it Marshfield where power is out?

Marshfield 5,000 without power as of a few hours ago as reported in the Boston Globe.

I don't have any idea what the weather is like in Marshfield. Is it a rural area where power can be out for weeks?

I'm not sure where the outages are, but the Globe article above said officials are "expected to ask" residents to evacuate in Marshfield. Little on the late side there, guys. :what: I'd hope the coastal residents would have already known to leave though??!

Not rural, suburban and on the coast. Fairly close to Boston, just a bit south.

No, but the fix will depend on how many more lose power.

Yeah, not the brightest idea to be thinking about asking people to evacuate right before dark with the roads a mess LOL.

It was only supposed to rain here after a few flakes this morning, and then get bad tonight. Kids got out at 12:30 but our district said since accumulation wasn't predicted until later in the evening we would work a full day. Mind you, it never turned to rain, just sleet, hail, snow, all day. I left at 3 and people were fish tailing everywhere. Luckily, my old Kia Sedona minivan is boss in the snow. Even w/o 4 wheel drive. Very little sliding for me but continued to be scared of the other cars (and buses) which were sliding everywhere. Took me about 40-45 minutes for a 20-25 minute ride, so not too bad. But the snow is coming down hard the whole way (somehow it didn't know it wasn't supposed to accumulate until later). I did manage to stop at the "package store" a few blocks from my house. We just call it a liquor store, here in Jersey, but they sell everything you need to be snowed in. Liquor, beer, non-alcholic beverages, cheese, chips, etc. As long as the power stays on, we'll be quite cozy!

I hated driving home from work in the snow or worse ice. Had to peel my hands off the steering wheel when I got home.

Glad you got your package. We just call ours liquor stores also.

Hoping everyone keeps their power. Winds are going to be so bad and gusting up to 60 miles an hour or more so the power companies probably won't get anything done for some time.

I do feel sorry for the men and women who brave the terrible weather to restore power for people. Long hours in awful conditions.

Once after losing power for a long time we went outside and cheered and clapped for them when the power came back on....ought to try it...makes them smile real big.

My son just asked "When is going to freaking start snowing, what a waste?". Hope he's not channeling Casey Anthony.

Anyone have any experience with feral cats? I am concerned about the feral/stray little guy I have been feeding for a few years. He comes through the winter fine (I have no idea where he goes to stay during big storms, but he's been around at least three winters) but a storm of this size has me worried about him. He won't come anywhere near people, and the closest I've gotten him to come for food is about 15 feet from the house.

I was thinking about putting a couple of boxes (waterproofed) along side the back and front of the house (protected from the wind/snow a bit by the side of the stoop) with a dish of food in each - does this sound like he would be able to smell it and go inside for some protection?

I hate seeing his little paw prints along my walkways every time we have snow, I feel so bad for him and wish he wasn't so afraid... Anyway, just looking for ideas on how to help this little guy thru the storm :(

Good of you to look out for the little guy. I've always heard that straw is good for warmth and has the bonus of staying more dry than blankets or towels. Of course you can't go out in a winter storm to hunt for straw but might help in the future. Also you might need to make him a small path to the box if you can.
Good luck to everyone in the path and hope everyone stays safe.

Really picking up here now.

Checked my boxes for the stray cat, no sign he has been here yet, and no little paw prints. I hope he has found a warm safe place :( going to go clear a little snow in a bit, and make sure he has a path if he comes by.

Haven't seen PML in a bit - you still have power down in CT? Maybe she is just having some dinner and blizzard beer? :)

Moe I hope your family is faring well over on the coast!

Trying to work up some motivation to go clear some snow lol... The wind is pretty heavy and it feels COLD.

Really wish we had a snow blower right about now...never wanted to spend the money cause our driveway is so small. Doesn't seem like a great way to save money after all.

Just saw some film from the South Shore in MA, snow is coming down sideways, High Tide in an hour. Not pretty...

Here's the Mass DOT page - has a little drop down menu with about 30 live webcams. Looks nasty all over. Of course, some fools are still out on the roads, I see.

I'm hoping my neighbor clears it all, they have to take their dog out! We have a good amount on the front porch. I am not shoveling!
