I am hearing very bad things from my bff who is working at a major hospital.

At Columbus, OH, they're in high emergency status.

Looking forward to the vaccine's becoming available to health care workers in December. Can't come to soon. The rest of us are going to have to wait.

Omg, I just got a phone call. My 20 year old granddaughter, Kailee, tested positive and she was here last night. She’s a manager of n OnCue so I’m sure that’s how she got it. No no no no no no! Not my baby.
Oh COVID, how I hate your guts!

So, when did she test? Why don't people stay home from the time they test to the date they receive their results? It is a 2 day turn around here.

Hoping she will be okay, and more importantly, that you will be okay.

Dear @imstilla.grandma,

Sending positive thoughts to you and your granddaughter. I know you are worried sick, understandably. Do know that the fact that Kailee is young is in her favor statistically, and hopefully she will be okay. :)

Again, IANAD, but my loving and academic recommendation to you IMO is, based on my contact tracing training, etc., IF your contact with your granddaughter was prolonged, direct, not distanced/masked/indoors, etc., that you immediately begin quarantine for 14 days and closely monitor your systems. I would also advise for you to call your doctor asap to get more personalized recommendations wrt testing, guidance, etc., and establish that direct line of contact so you can ask any questions, discuss concerns, etc. Also, I recommend Kailee, or you if you’re up to it, jot down some timeline notes with the following dates for reference, not to overwhelm you but you’re good with that stuff - it’s good to get this together while it’s all fresh, pm me if you need any help with anything at all.

1. Date Kailee started exhibiting symptoms (if she’s symptomatic)
2. Date she was tested
3. Date of her positive test confirmation (Today, right? Tuesday, Nov. 24?)
4. Date she thinks she may have been exposed
5. Yesterday’s date of your contact with her - Monday, November 23
6. Any other notes which could be significant, such as additional contacts.

Sending you hugs and support.

@Seenit, @amandab, @HongKongPhooey and anyone else I’m missing, also sending good thoughts your way. Please let us know how you and your families are doing.

I beg you please don’t judge me. Lately we’ve not been doing a very good job with one another. I do have a lot of contact with Kailee. I babysit her dog, a Great Pyrenees. Y’all know me. I’m all about my family. I never leave the house. My daughter called, she’s sick with a fever now. She and Brooklynn tested negative last week. My husband has 101 fever. My son tested negative last week. Now I don’t know. Kailee has a fever, sore throat and sick. I feel fine. I feel fine. I feel fine. I feel fine. I’m gonna take a bath. Thank y’all for the messages. I love WS and my friends I’ve made here. My only friends.

just wanted to update :) before I forget - after talking with the adult kid last night
as of 10 days in - chest tightness slightly better, still no taste or smell :(, and still has a slight headache (it has been ongoing pretty much the whole time) still tired. No cough or fever. Oxygen levels are Normal
Checking in with dr every other day or so.

Jumping in here (this thread has definitely picked up in recent weeks :()
One of my adult kids is positive (lives a few states away :() Started with loss of smell and then some slight chest tightness. Now some minor fatigue, nothing significant I guess. No other symptoms currently.
They work in healthcare so could have gotten it at work. Or not.

take care everyone !!

Dear Ima,

Don’t worry about anybody judging you, nobody is judging you. We love you. ❤️

I hope everyone in your family feels better soon. Sending lots of love and support.

Here is some CDC guidance, which I’m sure you’ve already seen:

@imstilla.grandma We would never judge you here, my gosh, I bet a lot of us are cussing ya blind right now, but know that is only because we know of your health troubles and we all love and value your contributions here that we don’t want you getting sick...

Please call your GP or specialist and inform him of the latest details.

Hope all are feeling better as soon as possible and you stay well.

Sending love and anti Covid vibes x

If you test positive, take care of yourself!!!

My doctor recommended Vitamin D3 and zinc when my symptoms started -- after exposure but prior to my test. She also recommended Mucinex as needed, plenty of water.

Found the D, my multivitamin includes zinc.

Most days I could still ride the stationary bike. Not at a workout pace, but that really helped me have a productive cough.

Mr. Laughing (who is not here to defend himself) declined to take Vitamin D, or a multivitamin. Declined to drink extra water. Laid on the couch.

Mr. Laughing ended up in the hospital with pneumonia.

I'm 5 years older and have a diagnosis of COPD due to scarring in my lungs. I was the one standing on the sidewalk with a bunch of balloons, waving at him.

Take care of yourself, please please please!

Dear, darling Imstilla, no one is judging you AT ALL. We've all been in the same situation. I too have a granddaughter (very similar name to your granddaughter) and darn it, sometimes I do want to be closer to her (she's younger than your granddaughter, but that's not the point).

We just want you to be safe. Margarita's advice is so perfect, there's nothing I can add, really (except of course the usual about Vitamin D and fluids and Zinc). Personally, I think it's important to address even the tiniest symptom (so if your throat is scratchy at all, you do the zinc, you do honey and lemon, for me I add something like capsicum in it - but that's very individual - and I up my vitamin C). I have zinc throat lozenges.

It's really hard to get straight answers from doctors (where I live, the testing situation can change overnight, as to where and how to get it done), but now is the time to do that telemedicine visit with the doctor or at least find out from the doctor's office where they recommend you get tested, if that time comes.

Do those deep breathing exercises, make sure you have all the usual OTC things on hand for treating cold symptoms. One home treatment that has some science behind it (both as a preventative of a severe case of COVID and as a treatment) is melatonin (which has amazing anti-inflammatory properties - now would be the time to get some and I take 1-2 per day, bumping it up if I think I've been exposed).

Message me if you want more details.

Try not to panic Imstilla. I've been through it (and gave if to my 23 year old son :(). I'm in my 50s, none of the high risk factors but plenty of other health issues that go with an overweight under-exercised stressed out woman. Your family will ride it out, I'm sure. Here for you, from southern England xX

@SAMS, how are you and everyone today?
Not good. I believe just after I chatted here yesterday, I started to go downhill. Started with a slight fever, headache, some fatigue. I woke up this morning with chills/fatigue/feverish/overall felt like crap. Called my Dr. went and got tested for covid a few hours ago, and am now isolated from everyone. I’m in good health, 47 yr old, no underlying conditions but my husband is another story. High blood pressure his most worrying culprit. I’m more fatigued now, my face feels flushed, slightly congested along with runny nose now and oddly, intermittent pain in my teeth? TY for asking, and your wealth of knowledge is appreciated. I’m documenting all of my symptoms/testing date/my daughters testing dates, etc. MOO

ETA: Daughter and grandkids are doing the same so that’s good news.

I've been judged pretty harshly at times and felt like piranhas had attacked me. I wouldn't dole that out to anyone. JMO

@SAMS , @imstilla.grandma , do your self-care. Take a bath or stand in the shower if you like that. Hope you have a heating pad, while I did have the headache, the heating pad helped.

If there is a scent you like, open a candle -- might not want to light it since you may fall asleep.

Lipton's chicken noodle from a box, if you like it. That's all I wanted for three days!

What helps you feel better helps your immune system. Practice visualization at all? See your blood cells finding the virus & destroying it.

Or, get back in bed & sleep.

Whatever self-care is for you, counting on you to take that path.

Best, Laughing
