BECKWITH, WV (WVNS) - The Fayette County Sheriff's Department is asking for help locating a missing man.

Deputies are looking for John Melvin Scarbrough. He is 46-years-old and was last in contact with his family on September 4.

Scarbrough is 6'1" and weighs 180 pounds. He also has long brown hair.

Deputies say he is from the Bachman Road area of Beckwith.

Unidentified remains were found on Bachman Road Sept 20th:

"Even though there is a recent report of a missing person in that area, we will not prematurely speculate as to the identity of the individual until a proper and thorough examination is conducted by the Medical Examiner," says Mike Sheriff Fridley.

So, were there another set of bones found? Because this makes it sound as though this set of remains were found on 7/24/19... ?

BECKWITH, W.Va. (AP) — Authorities say human remains found in a West Virginia residence belong to a person who has been missing for about a year.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department released a statement Thursday saying they found the remains at a residence on Bachman Road in Beckwith the day before.

Officials say deputies were sent with a search warrant because of a missing person complaint. It’s unclear who the residence belongs to. Authorities didn’t immediately release the name of the missing person or the cause of death. The sheriff’s department says the bones have been sent to the medical examiner’s office.

Circumstances of Disappearance
On Tuesday, September 11, 2018 Deputy Aaron Murray of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office in Fayetteville, Fayette County, WV to take a report in reference to a Missing Person. Deputy Murray met with Leslie Fran Tweedie. MS Tweedie stated that she was the sister of John Melvin Scarbrough and that he was missing and she wished to file a missing persons report. MS Tweedie stated that she had not seen her brother, John Melvin Scarbrough since, Tuesday, September 4, 2019 at 1385 Bachman Road Fayetteville, Fayette County, WV.
