This is behind a paywall, but I can't find any other MSM article about it. I haven't been able to read more than the first couple lines...

Petito parents: Laundries put attorney on retainer day after son came home
This article mentions the retainer:

“It is believed that on or about August 28, 2021, Brian Laundrie advised his parents that he had murdered Gabrielle Petito."

“On that same date, Christopher Laundrie and Roberta Laundrie spoke with Attorney Steve Bertolino, and sent him a retainer on September 2, 2021.”

Yes, the exact wording was in the Amended Complaint filed last spring on 4/28/22. That complaint can be found on the Clerk of Court site for Sarasota County. So it's not new news nor is there proof it's true. It's what the Petitos say they believe happened.

Right. I don't see how it can be proven that Brian told his parents what he did.

But then:

1.) Why retain an attorney immediately? (September 2)
2.) Why block Nichole's phone number and Facebook profile? (September)
3. ) Why go on a vacation? (September 6-7)
4.) Why not help search?

Well, I can think of all kinds of reasons for those actions (including #4) depending on what BL actually told his parents. And we don't know who blocked the numbers, we do know the vacation was supposed to be a few days earlier (& don't know why it was cancelled-- perhaps because BL came home, but there was torrential rain too earlier.)

I do have a question though. If I was frantically calling an attorney on Aug 28-- and we don't know that the L's did that-- I don't think I'd wait until Sept 2 to send him a retainer.

The hearing is on plaintiffs' motion to compel discovery and defendants' motions for protective order and for dismissal.

So many of us said this early on. They paid him a retainer.

The two sides dispute when the letter was written. The Laundries say it was written before the trip, the Petitos say it was after Gabby was killed.

Even Bertilino was shocked by what he read. Reilly was able to read it, however, Bertilino refused Reilly a copy.

Nope. This is not a normal, loving, heartfelt letter from mother to grown son! Not claiming to be totally normal (lol) but I am mom to 3 grown sons. Disgusting!!!!

When was this written? And why did she say to burn after reading? Was it because of when it was written, like after Gabby's murder or before? Or was it because mother and son were having problems? Imo she wanted the letter burnt because she didn't want someone else to see it. She sounds desperate to me.
That date could mean a lot!
