I took a step back & decided not to comment on the body cam footage last night. It was so hard to watch. I decided to sleep on it & gather my thoughts. This second set of footage from this officer… & before I say anything I’m not saying I agree or disagree with how the Moab police handled this. So don’t come for me lol These are just my thoughts, observations, & JMO. This is what it seemed like to me. I wanna go thru the positions of the police bc I don’t even know how I feel about it. All references are from body cam footage posted in 7 different tweets from

Everything is IMO!! IMO!!
(1) You can tell that this officer was very familiar with the law & with DV cases at some level. He knew he was recording & is literally quoting out the law & all the different criteria. He made the comment to the other officer that (paraphrasing) you know what can happen with these types of things, things keep escalating & the victim ends up getting killed.
(2) They established him as the “victim” - that’s the part I’m uncomfortable on like I understand-ish why, but that decision impacts EVERYTHING else IMO. At that point they have to make sure that SHE will not hurt HIM. When in reality - hindsight is 20/20 - they needed to be concerned about him hurting her.
(3) It is so heartbreaking that this cop went to great extent to help her - & I truly think that’s what he was trying to do - & if you think about it, if they would have arrested her & took her to jail, it might have saved her life IMO!! We don’t know that for sure, but it def would have put things on a different course. It just breaks my heart for Gabby. Those cops, that I truly think IMO were trying to help her, have to live this for the rest of their lives.
(4) I do think it would have been beneficial for the police to completely get Gabby separated from Brian like a different location with a female officer to see if she would talk. Because in one of those clips, an officer does mention that (paraphrasing) she could be trying to protect him. They did pick up on a couple things, but ultimately & tragically, IMO went with what was being presented to them in the field, rather than that brief thought.
My heart is just shattered for Gabby in this footage.
