If I were he, 23 years old and possibly looking at 60+ years in prison... I honestly think I'd prefer the death penalty.

I think we should all consider it fortunate that there are defense attorneys out there willing to work even for those whom society has already declared guilty long before they ever reach a courtroom.

What's the point of a trial, then? Like, seriously, what is the point? He might as well die in the swamps, or be hung from a tree by a mob.

Crocs are far scarier than gators. Crocs will actually attack humans unprovoked, which I don't think gators generally do
Thankfully, I don't think crocs are native to this continent. But it's been a while since I brushed up on my croc knowledge.
Sure we have the American Crocodile!

Brian Laundrie: Police say he was under surveillance before he disappeared - CNN

To Note:
•Authorities do not have the phone Laundrie had with him on the couple's trip, nor do they have Petito's phone.
•Neither phone was in Petito's van, which Laundrie drove back to Florida, Taylor told CNN.
•authorities never spoke with Laundrie before he went missing even though they had ‘eyes’ on him.
•Taylor also confirmed investigators did not find a campsite during those efforts

Thank you for this. Not a direct reply to you here just jumping off this info. Im just thinking about the ‘crossed paths with a killer’ theory… would be kind of a weird if the killer took both their phones, no? JMO

For what reason? She was having a private conversation with police. If she wanted to tell someone she was in danger, she could easily tell them.

Hmm I thought this was in reference to the text on 8/30 about "no service in Yosemite" ergo the safe word was potentially Gabby saying Yosemite to alert her Mom cause her mother know she wasn't supposed to be there.

Is Brian Laundrie Alive? One Seasoned Pro Says Yes — and Where He Thinks FBI Should Look Next

At least one seasoned investigator, a retired federal marshal with three decades of experience searching for -- and finding -- people who were on the run, says he doesn't think Laundrie was ever in the Carlton Reserve in the first place.

In an interview for News 4's The Debrief podcast, Craig Caine, who supervised members of the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force before his retirement from the U.S. Marshals Service, said he believes Laundrie was never in that nature preserve at all.

"I think it was all a ploy. He had plenty of time to calculate those moves," said Caine, who has no involvement in the Petito/Laundrie case but who offered an expert opinion based on 30-plus years working such mysteries in the United States and abroad.

Caine says there is one "critical moment that changed my mind" as far as where he thought the investigation would lead. In his view, it all comes back to that silver Ford Mustang Brian Laundrie's parents told police their son drove to the Carlton Reserve on Sept. 14. He left behind his phone, which the FBI has since confiscated.

Laundrie's parents went to the preserve after their son didn't come home. They found the Mustang. They drove it home. Three days later, they called police to tell them that Brian Laundrie was missing. That, for Caine, was the critical juncture.

"You're gonna leave your son out in the preserve with no form of communication and no way to get home? Does that make sense to anybody?" Caine asked. "I don't even think he was ever in that preserve."

The FBI and local law enforcement briefly seized that Ford Mustang as part of their investigation and have since returned it to the Laundrie family. It's unclear what, if anything, of forensic note they found inside of it to assist in their investigation.

Caine says he isn't surprised they haven't found Laundrie yet, either. But he does think, eventually, he will be located.

"This isn't reality TV. This is a real-life situation, which leads me to believe this was well-orchestrated, well-planned and he had a lot of time and resources," Caine opined. "This guy will be found, maybe not sooner but he will be found later."

I dunno. If they were worried about him and went to look for him and saw a notice the car was going to be towed…they wouldn’t just leave it there.

I’m with you on this one. I don’t understand why people are defending this guy. Every single one of his actions says he’s guilty.
To add to that, not one of his actions point to his innocence...

Unlucky Bri, ey?......

Agreed. None of this was planned, IMO. Something very bad happened in Wyoming and Brian scurried back to the safety of his parents. He likely told them some version of, "It's over. For good this time. Gabby went <somewhere> and will make arrangements to pick up her things in a couple weeks." End of.

Then he sat back and just waited. When are her parents going to start calling? Is her body going to be found? When are they going to start asking me questions? What am I going to say? Which all comes to pass, of course.

Instead of dealing with it, he just takes off with some vague plan of camping and hiking and living off the land. This kid is not a mastermind. He's been lucky so far, nothing more.

JMO
He's lucky. Or dead. Which may actually be the same thing for him.

That he is/was suicidal. Keeps the questions to a minimum and explains RL dragging him to CaL's house, biking, camping, etc.
You may be right, certainly.

So if they found nothing, why did so many of them show up there yesterday? And why did they go back today? What prompted their return after days of scaled back search efforts?

perhaps I misunderstood. I thought this was referencing the "he's dead" instead of "its dead" comment during the Moab pullover.

IMO I don’t think BL had a SIM card in his phone.
I had not thought about that. But then why the concern that he have it at the hotel? Isn't it needed to even make a simple phone call? MOO

So there was basically a whole thread about nothing.

What a case.

That's just how searches often go. There's an awful lot of looking for something and either not finding anything, or finding it and it turns out to be a big nothingburger.

It's just that in most cases, the fruitless searches aren't followed intently as they happen. They just get summarized as nope, nothing today.

I should have put the caveat "I'm not certain" either, perhaps somebody will let us know...

I wouldn't be able to laugh if it was my son missing.
Maybe not. I have laughed during some pretty dark times. I can see me laughing during a search and being grateful to the agent for helping me get through it. Life goes on and you learn to deal with the punches - even when you're so ripped up you want to die.
