I don’t think he is evading; I think he is dead

Curious what your take is on how. The elements (including hungry wildlife), or by his own hand? I'm from the camp that he's either alive, or the elements got him. I don't think he took his own life. At least not at this point. Maybe later on he might if this continues for weeks on end.

Or the lawyer is giving him.cash!
Can the lawyer do that?

That would be a very bad idea-I don’t think the lawyer would do that <modsnip>

Possible. As you said, apparently he wasn't supportive of her work. However IMO the smallest things might set him off, so they could've been fighting over anything.

And yes IIRC he took her phone and tried to take her van, according to a witness and/or Gabby herself.

IMO

Every now and then I picture these scenarios. Brings tears. Young lady embracing life, hopeful expectations of the future, while constantly around a man she loves who doesn't believe in her, belittling her work and her. Having to walk on eggshells.

MOO based on bodycam, witness statements, and my personal education/experience.

As for her parents saying they weren't aware of fighting, that's not uncommon in these situations.

IMO

Yes I'm afraid she lived with this, never knowing when he'd blow. Her parents just learning about this must break them.

Feeling the feels today. I've been distracted from all that, by focusing on other details of the case.

There is only one other time in my life that I've been moved like this, 1997 when Princess Diana was killed in the car crash, and now this case with Gabby Petito.

Both complete strangers to me, but both having the kind of impact on me that I will never forget. It's just the saddest thing, all of it and it was needlessly done, so many lives ruined and this ray of light Gabby is gone forever. jmo

At first, I would have said by his own hand; now, maybe by the elements/gators or snakes. This is not to say that I don’t hope he is still alive, and able to stand trial, though.

I wonder how many threads on this case there will be in the end. What's the WebSleuths record for most number of threads devoted to one case?

I think he is alive and well. I think the longer he gets away with hiding, the bigger his ego gets. He will slip up, he will eventually be found. He cannot hide forever.

Id venture to guess that a good number of us has had their early adulthood dreams crushed largely by the relationships we were in at the time. Its a sad reality/risk of early adulthood. And moving on from those disappointments and relationships was a rocky road, but most of us have found acceptance of that fact and some resolution in our lives. Those two were out there alone in the mess they created for themselves by not really ever being on the same page in terms of passions and goals. And they had no relief from each other and no real confidants that they could receive counsel from except their respective parents, long distance. And neither wanted their parents to know just how much trouble they were really in. Sadly, I think what happened was almost bound to happen and no one but they could do anything to avert it. jmo So, here we are.
This is just the best, most perceptive post. I wish everyone between 20-30 could read this- and get it. I see young adults, bombarded with images & posts of picture-perfect lives… and cringe when they think those “standards” are the new American dream. It’s hard to balance that fantasy with encouragement & support for “wins” that are less than Insta/TikTok worthy. Sigh. Maybe part of Gabby’s legacy will be to gain perspective in some way of a simpler, healthier, less-impressive “normal”. Idk…

If he is alive I think he misses his parents. They seem to have been his only friends besides the one he killed. jmo

I know many hurtful ugly things can be said in the heat of anger. One person says something and the other comes back with something more hurtful and it just escalates. I think GP had maybe had enough and had made up her mind to give BL an ultimatum. You change or I'm leaving. He came back with threats of you're not leaving me and she came back with, you can't stop me! Never thinking he would react so violently. With that challenge he snapped and possibly choked her.

The rest of his behaviour, I can't imagine except to think he went to the place he felt safe...home. I don't think he was crazy, a serial killer or anything like that. He was full of uncontrollable rage that I think had been building for a long time. But, that's something a therapist would have to determine. GP had been a constant in his life for many years.
I've heard many times when you're angry about something it usually has little to do with the person you project that anger towards. GP had been his scapegoat for a long time I think. He concocted some story for his parents, and they believed him. He had two days to come up with a good one! Based on what he told them, they of course helped him...in the beginning. I do not believe they still are. But, I wish they would start talking...and maybe they are, as we don't know everything. I am not defending or blaming anyone, just my thoughts on what I can see might have happened. GP did not deserve this and I hope BL is found and if guilty is punished to the fullest extent possible. Either by the legal system or by his own hand. I don't care. There is no excuse that redeems a murder. It's a tragedy for all involved. MOO

I'm running all sorts of scenarios through my head. What if he *did* call a time out and tell her they had to end the trip and she said ok just let me do one more week or so for more pictures to end it with so they agreed to a time out and he left her in the hotel and flew home. When he's there he tells his parents how awful it is for poor him , that he just wants to hike and camp and commune with nature but terrible Gabby insists on making all these videos etc and poor poor BL just can't take anymore and he wants to break up with her. His parents agree that this is just not acceptable treatment of their golden boy and say ok get her things out of storage and bring them back to her and drive her back to her parents ( either set) and here's $XXXX.XX to fly back home. He returns and they set off for the agreed upon final stops but by now , fueled by his parents agreement of his shoddy treatment, he's so angry he's having a hard time being agreeable during the last week.and he snaps and does the unthinkable. Once he regains some semblance of composure he starts to hitchhike away to get close enough to a place to get airline tickets. Then he realizes if the van is found she will likely be found as well so he turns back to get the van and drives it back home. He gets there and tells his parents she's so stubborn she refused to go back to her parents but was afraid to drive the van alone so she's going to continue on with (imaginary) friends they made on the trip but made him swear not to tell her parents because they would insist she come back home and she told him she'd come for the van when the trip was over. All sounds believable at first and when her parents try to call he says just don't answer, we can't tell them she isn't with me anymore! Then the last message comes where they're told the police are being called and all hell breaks loose at the Laundrie household. He convinces them Gabby was fine when he left but oh boy now he's gonna be blamed for whatever happened to her. Enter the lawyer who says shut up, don't talk to anyone. They go camping and he takes off from there . Is this a workable scenario?

Sounds very plausible. I guess he'd be smart enuff to think up a story like that. Mmm-maybe!
I'd be sad and angry at the break-up, if I were his <shudder> mom, but I'd probably buy it until things got spooky. Ummff, then what?
Good post!

I wonder how many threads on this case there will be in the end. What's the WebSleuths record for most number of threads devoted to one case?

I recently asked that Q of someone in pvt and they guessed Casey Anthony or the Daybell's. I don't know how to find out which thread on this site has the most but would love to hear how if someone here knows the secret!

I've wondered, since BL's parents apparently were involved in real estate on a modest level, could they have access to a list of abandoned properties or properties that were unclaimed or foreclosures that were empty in a secluded area?

Maybe he just wanted to be done with her and she wouldn't let him go. We really don't know. They were stuck together to deal with each other 24/7 and it was ruining whatever happy life they had had together previously. They just didn't know how to let it go and he wound up killing her rather than doing the reasonable thing and just leaving. I'm sure that one of her Dads would have been willing to fly out there and drive her back to New York. Sad turn of affairs, as they go, but no one winds up dead. jmo

If this is the case, then when wouldn’t he have stayed in Florida when he left for the 5-6 days? That would be the best way to get away from her…make the excuse that he had to deal with the stuff in storage, and then just not go back. I mean, we surely aren’t making the case that he was a gentleman who couldn’t leave her alone out West, because he did. And probably killed her, too.

It may be too late. SM is dangerous and we have a entire generation now living for the likes and followers. They have no concept that this isn't real.

As perhaps in his parents basement? There is no outside witness to him leaving the home. No sign of him camping in the wilderness that he was reported to have gone. Searches for him are already being downsized.
The vast majority of Florida homes do not have basements, and those that do are located away from the coast.

I agree. I wonder if he flew home because they had been arguing and fighting, and he was angry---considered leaving the trip---leaving her alone to drive home because he knew how terrified she was?
Maybe his parents convinced him to help her return and so he flew back to do that. By then she was probably very upset, so things just went downhill fast. He wanted her to be 'grateful' that he returned---but she was angry and told him so?
Excellent! Very possible, maybe even probable. <sigh> That poor sweet young woman. That jerk of a ~man~.
Nice to hear from you, @datydid23! ;)

No offense to your idea but BLs' parents don't seem that slick if you ask me. JMO.
It's really not that slick. Burner phones are pretty elementary, and Brian would know about VPNs. Or the attorney would know too.
