I want BL to be found. I want Gabby’s homicide to be solved and any & every one that may be responsible to pay the consequences for their actions. I’d pray this is how most if not (hopefully) all here believe.
With that being said, I believe people (including myself) get so caught up in cases like this and want justice to be served so badly that we expect it ‘NOW, AT THIS MOMENT’…and we end up innocently forgetting that LE, including the FBI, are human, their ‘powers’ & talents do have limits, mistakes will be made, and there will even be reoccurring times of self reflection on “should haves” before this is all over. And even with that, this (sadly) still may not end the way we hope for or the way we believe it should.

Laundrie should have been kept in pocket by cops, ex FBI agent says

FBI is 'spread too thin' for Brian Laundrie search, ex-agent says

The FBI is not "tasked or mandated" to investigate homicides as the search for Laundrie has now been scaled back and targeted based on intelligence.

"[But] once the FBI is thrust into the limelight, and this is one of my criticisms of the FBI, the agency is spread too thin with not enough resources to really be able to be as effective as they could be in kind of sticking to their mission statement.

"
And most importantly, what I think is under reported, is that each and every step that law enforcement takes to try to apprehend this individual may be scrutinized in a court of law and you cannot afford to make a mistake or sidestep a procedure just because you're in such a haste, because that sidestep or that mistake could throw the whole case out the window.

"And so that's why it takes time to do things to protect the process. So that if it ends up in a court of law, a defense lawyer is not going to be able to poke holes in it to get this guy off."

Search and rescue expert Mike Hadsell has estimated that the search for Laundrie in Florida's 25,000-acre Carlton Reserve has cost about $1.2million so far.

"I can accurately estimate they are spending $200,000 a day on this search," Hadsell stated.

We are trying so solve a case with our arms tied behind back. I think most of us agree Brian had something to do with Gabby's death.

But, the how, why, when, we will continue to have different options. Hopefully we can continue to discuss respectfully.

Can you give an example? What plausible reason could Brian have told them?

That she was going to be with her friends in Yosemite or Yellowstone so he decided to give her and her friends some "girl time." He came home to stock up on supplies, see family over labor day, do some work on the van, etc. I assume that would sound plausible, at least for a while.

"Gabby almost got arrested in Moab, for beating up on me"
"Don't get into it with the Petitos, mum and dad. There is no point."
"Gabby took off with that dude I was telling you about, she'll swing by here at some point and get her stuff"
"It is up to Gabby to tell her parents what happened. All I know is she cheated on me, and she got violent with me, and I dont want anything more to do with any of them." (sob)

I can think of at least several plausible reasons he may have given to trusting parents. I think we all could, if we thought about it.
None of the plausible reasons being true, of course.

Did GP ever live with JP in Florida?
It would not surprise me if the van is registered at JP's address and was covered by his auto insurance. jmo

Looking at the timeline of the filings, the search warrant was filed on the 17th and the indictment wasn't filed until the 22nd. At the time the search warrant was filed, GP was still a missing person. The van had been located, but LE needed permission to search the van for information that could lead to her location.

At that point, there were no charges filed against BL. The FBI did not take over the search until after the indictment had been filed.
Thank you!

Thank you for this. And the Moab officers are probably beating themselves up. This is a hard case for many people. I heard an ex-FBI officer say on a program that they only get about 1% of homicides to investigate.

He could have said that on the last trip trip he realized there was stuff he could load in the van. Since she was going to be staying at her friends campsite, they agreed he should take the van home.

That assumes that they're operating on his advice. It's perfectly reasonable to assume he gave them a story about how she died and they immediately sought advice from the lawyer.

Maybe they do think he's guilty of something--even more reason to zip the lips, I would say. You think they should turn on their son and join your "team"? Wow...
The best move they could have made was hiring the best defense atty available and negotiate a plea deal, minimum sentence, possibility of life after prison if he is guilty of her death. . This is not a situation where you protect your child at all costs, the cost of doing this could possibly have led to him taking his own life. It is not “turning on your son” to have him do the right thing, tough as it is, having him turn himself in could have saved his life both figuratively and literally. Plenty of parents/family have cooperated with LE when a family member is the suspect.

Number 3 sounds quite plausible. I can see some other dude being introduced into the narrative. Maybe saying other guy had a way better vehicle, so he decided to be a nice guy and drive hers home.

Brandon and Gabby were friends as kids

“The fact that I will never be able to check up on you, and be there for you ever again, will haunt me forever.

"The fact that Im deployed outside the country and can't even be present at your funeral, will haunt me forever.

"You will never be forgotten Gabby, your loved ones, and now the whole world will make sure of that.

"I love you now and forever, rest in peace Gabby."

And for that reason, lawyer's papers were prepared ? BL came home for obvious reasons. To consolidate under one roof for protection. That was the most effective choice.
