Would they be able to tell if she was strangled by hands or by something else?

I wonder if the coroner determination of 3-4 weeks is because they are fairly certain it was 3 weeks, but being exposed to the elements for so long is making it more difficult to state an exact time.

I think some of them knew from the very start. But I know that's not what you meant. o_O
I believe they did. Jmo
I think I messed up my math - clearly I'm not thinking correctly. The TOD puts her dead sometime in the last week of august.
Has to be the 27th. That is the last time anyone saw or spoke to Gabby. Jmo

That’s probably in the investigation and he won’t talk about it.

So Glad for Gabby's parents that she was not pregnant

She was not pregnant.

Is it typical for the coroner to not answer the bulk of the questions being asked and instead refer to LE/FBI? It seems like he is only reiterating that she was left in the wilderness for weeks. Just trying to get an understanding of what they can and can not say. /jw

I'm a nurse and I'm not getting a medically distant vibe from him; it's something else. And it's not just him.
Is it the “elected official” vibe?

Well, I don’t know about the rest of you but as much as I’ve enjoyed batting ideas around with you all, and still do, this is suddenly “all too real”. Poor Gabby had to look her killer in the eyes whilst her life was slowly taken from her, either by someone she knew & loved, or a stranger.

That’s a horrible, personal way to die. Her poor parents, I just can’t imagine (& hope I never have to).

RIP Gabby, and much love to your family x

Dr. Blue: Gabby was not pregnant.

If it really happened in the van (and it's a very factual theory), would've the drive-by reporter of the van could done something to stop the death of GP? Or would've be already too late? :(

Strangulation only takes a few minutes. People driving by couldn’t stop it. Moab Police saw the toxic relationship and couldn’t stop this from happening. Unless Gabby had gotten away from BL right then, and for good, this was a tragedy waiting to happen. IMO

all he commented on her body was outside 3-4 weeks? Not exactly as precise as we need
It cuts the time frame we had before in half. It's not unhelpful.

UPDATE: Oct 12, 2021 / 02:44 PM EDT

Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue has confirmed Gabby Petito’s cause of death to be strangulation. It is believed she died three to four weeks before her body was found.

Blue said Wyoming state law does not allow any other information regarding the body’s trauma to be released.

He did not comment on the body’s condition at the time of discovery. While Blue did say the body was outside, he could not say if it was buried or exposed, explaining that the FBI would have to give the answer.

The coroner said DNA samples were taken by law enforcement.
