He was right where they said he was but tons of searchers had already covered that area thoroughly. So the question is why did the parents find him there when countless before them didn’t find him there?
From what I understand that area was underwater. What is your link saying it had been searched by tons of searchers?
They could have drawn a map for LE right off the bat if they were convinced that the area they eventually found his stuff in was where he would likely be. jmo
And you know they didn't??

Just thought of something. When did the press first appear at the house?

SB said last night that that told the FBI the night of Mon the 13 or the morning of Tuesday the 14 that BL didn’t come home, & that he had told them something at the time as well like “who’d want to come back w the press camped outside” (paraphrase). Were press there on the morning of the 12th? Or the morning of the 13th?

The entire search that we witnessed for several days. It was reported on an almost daily basis.

How did the parents know where he headed to? Did he tell them exactly where he going?
I could never figure that out. He must have given them a head's up.
If I remember correctly, his parents said that the area was his favorite place to go -- and, wanting him to be found, that's why they pressed another search. That and the less-water situation would provide more thorough searches.

Brian Entin got there on the 14th I believe, this is the first tweet I can find and it's dated the 15th

Specifically the park?

The water didn’t go down overnight. It would be gradual.

Could be, but I'm pretty sure AB asked him in the interview and he said he was on Long Island the whole time, handled it all through the phone and FaceTime. Maybe I missed something. As much of a screwup as I think SB is, if he prioritized the Laundries he should have spent some in person time there. IMO.

I'm another who's hoping against hope that Brian's notebook is legible and that he detailed what went wrong and why he killed Gabby. Also if his intentions in the park were to remain a fugitive...then we'd see his writing trail off if he starved or was attacked by an animal. Conversely, did he instead write a suicide note.

I feel the need to know and I'm nobody, so I can't bear thinking of the Petito/Schmidt families and their need for closure.

SB met the laundries in orlando on 9/23, the day after the warrant for BL was issued...

I think that if they DID draw LE a map it would have been a more concentrated search from the beginning, come hell or high water. Do I know that they did not> No. I do not know. jmo

I'm curious why BL chose the evening or early morning of Sept 13th to go to the reserve then. What triggered it then?

My opinion is that he wanted to get away from the questions coming at him from all sides, ie guilt and pressure to explain things. Likely from his parents, SB, GB’s parents, maybe CaL. I think he went to CR planning to lay low for a few days and wait it out but was still either in communication with someone/his parents or connected to the internet. He took the gun mainly for protection from wildlife but I think suicide was always a possibility. I think he was alive in CR for a few days, maybe even up until Gabby was found. At that point he knew his life was over so he killed himself. I do think he shot himself and the gun has been found. I can’t imagine reopening the reserve so quickly if they know there’s a missing gun out there. This is also why his parents didn’t report him missing at first, they were hoping he’d be home in a few days. All MOO

Two decent speculations, IMO, that I’ve seen other posters on here suggest are:

1. Convos with the lawyer on 11 & 12 (maybe advised to turn himself in?—Jmo) &

2. Gabby’s mom’s press conference on the 12th (perhaps felt a degree of guilt, but IMO probably more of an awareness that instead of this somehow fading away it was gaining national attention & momentum). Jmo!

One of my first thoughts was the attorney suggested he turn himself in and he would go with him. He knew they'd find her soon and would come to arrest him.

100%. The notebook is going to be a huge disappointment and probably contain only drawings MOO
My guess is that if it contains anything about these events, it contains a self-serving exoneration of his parents. An exoneration that may or may not be able to be corroborated by forensic evidence. We don't yet know. MOO

I think the police coming to the house on Sept 11 triggered panic. Remember, he was fine on the family camping trip a few days earlier according to Cassie.

One thing still really bothers me. Cassie said the topic of where Gabby was never came "because her kids were there". I find it odd that the kids did not ask about Gabby or where she was. By all accounts she was very fond of Cassie's kids and they of her.

Many people seem to be assuming he killed himself. And, he may have. However, he may have done it a week or more later. And, we still have no evidence that his death was not the result of dehydration, elements, or wildlife. In other words, not intended by him. And, I don't know if we will ever find out. But, I hope we do. MOO

What about a Wrongful Death suit -- if Federal law allows them?
Would that be a possibility without a prior conviction?
Obviously, IANAL.

Highly unlikely to impossible without extensive and direct proof.

I did notice JT couldn't answer Brian Entin when he asked about the gun. Not, No..but couldn't say.
I recall people saying they saw a LE remove an empty gun case from the Mustang. I couldn't find this image though.
