Theory here:

IF BL went on a "hike" after the MP incident and left Gabby at the campsite with the tent; this could fit somehow IMO.

If you go off of Miranda Baker's (saying it's true) hitch-hiking story about how BL was camping for days without Gabby and she was at the van alone; could he have gone off after a fight to "separate themselves" could someone else have killed Gabby?


Speculation

I do think Brian killed Gabby, but I've never thought it was on the 27th. I've always believed it was on the 29th after he got back from his hike.

The idea that Gabby would have tried to not pay for her meal doesn't fit what we have come to know about her.

Gabby's personality does not seem to be that of someone who would "dine and dash"
With what her parents have said about her, that idea doesn't make sense.

JMO, as I have said, they were very young, and were incompatible. I will also add that the simplest thing is usually the reason. It's been well noted that they had issues, they even admitted it (DV Moab Stop). He killed her in my opinion period and then told his own self a lie and then went home and lied and then finally when reality hit he killed himself. IMO

I'm astonished at the huge amount of conflicting statements, facts, sightings, retractions, and personal accounts that Gabby's murder has accumulated. Granted, I really haven't been following anything since the debacle of Casey Anthony's trial but it is shocking to me. I guess the difference is the greater involvement of social media.
SM, thankfully gave us the Bethunes' video which was a huge forward movement, but has muddied the facts in so many other ways. All the way from tick-tockers vs Merry Piglets to shining light on Bertolino's inconsistent statements. It does give me more insight into the dilemma that LE investigators must face with each case.
But I don't know if all this information, with the immediate input of SM makes me feel wiser or dumber! Just ruminating and mooing.

This doesn't make sense to me either, BCSleuth. But neither does Brian taking Gabby's body over there and taking her boots off once he got there either. I can't logically put either scenario together in my mind. I can't imagine how it came about.

I just realized that if that witness had not spoken up, LE may not have ever learned that GP and BL were at Merry Piglets.

Just to be fair, mistakes can happen.

Sure, and as in your case, people apologize profusely, over-tip, and leave in a hurry. They don't return to the restaurant to ask for a refund (or even the more generous "they wanted to put it on the card and get their cash back.") They're embarrassed and they can't get away fast enough.

My favorite accidental dine and dash was a dude with adult children who left before the check came, but left a credit card on his chair. I gave the unpaid bill and the card to my manager. Came in a week or so later to a 200% tip and a very apologetic note, thanking me for not taking his card on a shopping spree.

I was honestly insulted he thought I was dumb enough to commit credit card fraud I'd almost certainly get caught for.

This would be up to how the camera's were set up and how long the back up's worked. Some do a month, some do 3 days, some do 6 months. With the cloud, it could be forever. That would be up to the FBI. Doubt it was the manager's choice. JMO

Potentially could have IMO. What if BL thought he would be blamed for what happened given what happened in UT.
Something just isn't adding up for me with this MP situation involved and the managers story.

I was just thinking about the fact that Gabby and BL set off for this whole van life trip in June, but we know literally nothing about June, just that they left New York on July 2, then we know just a little about August. I wonder what was going on in those other months?

This is also strange to me.
What happened after they left NY. Could there have been more "fights" that we don't know about?
Why very few (if any) pictures or video from either of them? Almost like Gabby started really documenting the trip in Colorado and almost nothing before.

The MP manager did not have to tell BE the same thing she told the FBI. She can tell BE anything she wants to. I think she's telling a whole different story because the truth could somehow affect their business or even her in some way.

I never thought that they set up a tent out there. I always thought that they argued and she ran out there to escape him and he caught up with her. We really don't know if those were boots that they saw from an aerial video from a moving helicopter. Maybe. If so, she may have taken them off because they were drenched from crossing the streams. They may have had a tent set up closer to the van, or they slept in the van, but I think they had been there since the 26th. I think he killed her right where he found her on the 27th. I tend to believe the 2 hitchhike drivers. I think he got back to the van around 7ish and headed south to Jackson to get gas and maybe a stop in between for food or whatever and then went east toward Illinois...... jmo

I was thinking the same. Possibly BL tells GP he paid the bill, but really walked out on it hoping to get away with it.

IF this is what happened could BL have seen it as a way to exert more "control" over Gabby?
If he was hiding her phone, taking her driver license away from her, van keys etc.

Just to be fair, mistakes can happen. Not sure if that's what happened here with Gabby/Brian, but it has happened to me. My husband and I accidentally left a bar without paying for our bill. I went to the restroom after the bill came and assumed he had paid, and he thought I had paid when I left the table to use the facilities. We walked out completely unaware. Luckily my coworkers were there and covered our bill - the waitress was very upset. When my coworkers texted me to let me know that we didn't pay, I immediately drove the 15 minutes back to the bar (friends were gone at that point) and profusely apologized to the waitress and gave her a massive tip. I didn't tell her this detail, but at that time I worked for the police department, and this bar was in their jurisdiction. I have NEVER stolen anything in my life, but if I were to do something shady/crappy like that it most certainly would not be in the same jurisdiction of the police department where I was employed - they would have reported the theft to the officers I worked with. The waitress didn't believe me, she just said "Yeah, sure . . . okay." and took the money while giving me massive stink eye. Although I'm sure you've seen it all, sometimes honest mistakes do happen.

I love this story. It sounds so like something that would happen to me from beginning to end.

I haven't seen a picture of boots next to a blanket and until I do I will continue to question it. I actually think this is BS, frankly.

All the conflicting statements etc are very strange. From my experiences if you have multiple people in one situation and ask them later what happened, you'll basically get the same essential story with minor changes; not completely different stories.

SM can be a curse IMO. Good things and bad, more bad IMO. This whole case has more twists than a corkscrew and keeps adding more.
Basically comes down to this: Nobody knows what really happened on Gabby's last day (whatever day that was) other than Gabby and BL. We may never know exactly what happened nor Gabby's family.

I understand your sentiments about "grain of salt" but why would Gabby's step-dad Jim have even talked about the boots being next to her? IIRC he said that LE/feds told him that.
