I really like this Judge.

Does it matter that the Laundrie's statement came from a NY attorney and the Judge mentioned Florida law? Curious about that.

No this doesn't matter, there were no legal proceedings when the statement was made. I'm actually surprised Bertolino hasn't been admitted Pro Hac Vice in FL.
