WY - Tranyelle Harshman, 32, shot all four kids and then herself, 4 dead, Byron, February 10, 2025

Winter has been particularly hard this year. I remember an old movie I watched about the wind and dust during the "dust bowl" era, and a mother went crazy. She killed her family. I can't remember the name of the movie. But I remember vividly, how the mother went into a deep depression and hopelessness.

This weather is hard. Dark, cold, wind. It is challenging.

The husband and stepdad did an interview. Absolutely heartbreaking. He talks about his wife's depression and the various treatments she tried. This included ketamine, which she was on leading up to the shooting.

"Law enforcement and cleaning crews had removed the girls’ cribs and any toys and clothing that had been bloodied.

It was a kind gesture of them, said Cliff. But met with empty rooms, he scrambled to find anything that still smelled of his babies and his wife.

Eventually he did. He found a sweater Tranyelle had worn for a couple of days and a set of little girls’ jammies that, mercifully, the mother had not yet put in the laundry.

“What I wouldn’t have given to walk into that house and see them,” said Cliff. “I’d give away everything that I have — and I have so much now — just to have it back to normal.”"

Ugh!!! That is tough to read!

You're right, there likely are one or more underlying causes, and money problems may be part of them, but in my opinion, identifying a mother who murders her own children as "evil" is 100% right too. Other people have money problems and don't murder their children. Other people have mental illnesses and don't kill their kids. As for not knowing the reasons why Tranyelle Harshman murdered her daughters, there are likely many other individuals still alive who know the facts on what was occurring in her life. The father, aunts and uncles, doctors, social workers, neighbors. More information is available, the question is, will anyone pull it all together? RIP to those poor girls. JMO

In cases like this, where there are murder/suicides, are the cases just "closed" automatically or does law enforcement issue a final report?
I still don't believe in EVIL as a motive or a mental health condition. It's a biblical and mythical concept.
And the old "Other people have mental illness or money problems" a BS argument. Maybe they don't kill their kids but they can do other things, like drugs, or drinking or self-harm. It's not like killing your family is the only outcome.
And the other people in her life could have probably helped, no question. We don't know much about her before this tragedy happened, only bare bones that may point to some decisions that led to this tragedy. It doesn't just happen out of the blue or because of EVIL.

Maybe they could have taken her firearm away?

I certainly don't think that the mother was evil based upon what we have seen.

Sounds a bit like The Wind (2018). It was not set in the dust bowl era though but in the 1800s. Creepy movie IMO.

They may not have known that she had one.

Ketamine as a treatment for depression is the last-ditch treatment before resorting to electroconvulsive therapy. I had also never heard of prazosin, which is an old blood-pressure medication and long obsolete for that purpose unless nothing else works, being used for nightmares but this website says it is.

they should have made it their business to know what was going on, with three kids in the house. I just don't understand it, personally.

I don't think people reach out for help when they are in a deep, depression like this. It is almost a psychosis, with distorted thought patterns. Or if she did reach out, people are often uncomfortable with discussing mental health problems.

I had an interesting experience, a nurse asked me at a medical appointment if I felt "suicidal". Then she laughed, like it was just a box she had to check on the chart. I of course, said, "No". Because, she obviously was uncomfortable even asking the question. She completely minimized the question, as if it was trivial and stupid.

What if I really was depressed and needed help? I would have just internalized it. Because obviously she didn't want to hear about it.

So, even if the perpetrator had reached out for help, she may have minimized the depth of her problem. Most people don't want to talk to anyone about suicidal thoughts or homicidal thoughts. In her mind, the perpetrator was "taking care" of her children by taking them with her. Flawed thinking, but probably she felt no way out.

Prazosin is extremely common in the treatment of PTSD. It's good for nightmares and hyperarousal symptoms, both of which are hallmarks of PTSD.

I believe that's a private decision that we won't know the answer to unless the family releases that information. It's really nobody's business but theirs, IMO.
That's true.

I did see that Tranyelle was an organ donor, because she arrived at the hospital "alive."

The local ketamine clinic uses a compounded nasal spray that must be administered at the clinic, and they do it something like once a month. Dosages vary widely.

A toxicology report has now revealed that before the horrifying event, Harshman had ketamine and anti-anxiety drugs in her system:

Shocking details emerge in mom-of-four's grim murder-suicide

That is interesting. Ketamine. Isn’t that the same drug Matthew Perry had in his system? I have heard of mental health practices using Ketamine with therapy, but I am wary of it. (Great, you can order it online now).
