As a Christian I struggle with the why them question with these cases... I believe there is true evil in this world doing battle it's just hard to understand why little children have to suffer.

Looking at the photos and reading mom's blog entries makes me feel like this mom truly cherished every moment she could with those kids. She was blessed enough to be able to stay home and do quality things with them and IMO she should have no regrets where that is concerned. She and her husband gave them a great life as short as it was. It makes me realize how I need to cherish the time with my kids more than I do. They could be gone tomorrow.

We need attorneys to represent cases like these. If every attorney turned away every person that appears 100% guilty, we wouldn't have a justice system. I believe she did it, that seems pretty obvious to me, but I still think she deserves an attorney if she wishes to exercise her right to a fair trial.

I agree completely. Not because I think she's innocent, and not because I think she should receive little or no prison time. I believe she needs a good defense because the next person may be innocent but it may not be obvious to everybody. I don't want defense attorneys to decide the guilt or innocence of the accused, I want that to be done by the evidence, judge and jury like it's supposed to be. It isn't the defense attorney's job to decide if the client is innocent or guilty; it's the attorney's job to present what evidence they can find and allow the jury to make the decision based on what's presented. MOO

On the subject of Defense Attorneys I agree that there are some that take on the scum of society BUT as an American I agree that EVERYONE has the right to representation. In a case like this I am not sure what the defense will be and since there is no chance for DP then that won't be an issue. She may just try to work out a plea deal though doubtful that will happen either.

This time last year there was a horrible case that happened here in my town where a little 7 yr old girl Jorelys Rivera was sexually assaulted murdered and thrown into a trash compactor at her apartment complex. NOTHING like this or even close has ever happened here. Local police and GBI had apprehended the suspect pretty quicky after the body was discovered and he was a young kid age 23....

Anyway, he was like the Casey Anthony of our town because everyone wanted to kill him. He got a public defender but since it was a DP case he was given the best attorney appointed by the judge because in these cases no one wants the defendent to be able to say they didn't have proper representation or get an aquital or a mistrial..... Anyway, this attorney knew his client was guilty but I the attorney just tried to keep DP off the table for him which he succeeded in doing in exchange for a guilty plea he got LWOP... Which never came to be because the guy suddenly confessed everything and pled guilty then once he was transferred to diganostics he hung himself.

I have heard it explained that the evil one knows how much Jesus loves children and this is the best way to hurt him. jmo

 You make a very good point. And Satan uses people to destroy others.... Sometimes I think I need to step away from this board as I start to believe there is more evil than good in the world...

According to this article:

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/robert-chambers-suffers-diminished-capacity-article-1.259779

"The Preppie Killer says he's not guilty of dope-peddling charges because he suffers from "diminished capacity" due to chronic drug use.

Chambers' court-appointed lawyer, Valerie Vanleer-Greenberg, outlined the strategy in a notice to the court.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Charles Solomon said the papers didn't have enough detail - and gave her more time to resubmit them.

Vanleer-Greenberg said she plans to have a forensic psychopharmacologist examine her client "as soon as I can find one.""

More... but I wanted to point out she was court appointed.

Accused Killer Nanny's Stress Spiked After Son Moved to NYC, Sources Say

November 9, 2012 3:37pm | By Murray Weiss, DNAinfo Columnist / Criminal Justice Editor

UPPER WEST SIDE — Cops believe the financial pressures that could have driven an $18-an-hour nanny to kill two children in her care began when she brought her own teenage son to New York to give him a better life, DNAinfo.com New York has learned.

Investigators and prosecutors trying to unravel the motive behind the gruesome murders believe the decision by Yoselyn Ortega eight months ago to move her 17-year-old son, J<modsnip> , from the Dominican Republic — and place him in a private school here — launched her descent into madness. That, combined with an unsuccessful attempt to get a raise from the family she worked for could have pushed her over the edge, sources said.

But, without a detailed confession from Ortega, authorities are still unable to determine with certainly exactly what allegedly caused her to stab Lucia Krim, 6, and her brother, Leo, 2, before turning the knife on herself in a botched suicide attempt on Oct. 25.

"There was definitely an issue with treatment by her employees, and money issues," a law enforcement source said. "But there must be some other craziness that has not come out."

Sources told "On the Inside" that Ortega was introduced to the Krim family two years ago through one of her sisters who is also a nanny who had met the Krims at Lucia’s dance class. She was paid $18 an hour, about average for a nanny, which is less than $32,000 a year...

Losing little children.. I can't imagine:(

I read a story about The mother of Eric claptons 4 yr old son who fell out of apt window. It was so sad:( she had videos of him. She could not look at them for yes.
She has since had more children and seems ok now but there must always be pain there for the one who died so young. It's so unfair.

I think some distance in time allows them to cope better.
But can’t imagine it ever going away. :(

Me with an MI daughter (different, but still hardship) am always thinking, hoping praying....ALWAYS
It does not get better, it gets where you accept that it is.

I think of the Krim’s all the time especially the Mom.

Grisly murder of two children has parents re-examining who is caring for their most cherished possessions

WS_nannymurder_COVER-copy.jpg

Local residents pass by the memorial set up outside the Krim's apartment building

As police continue to try and discover the motive behind nanny Yoselyn Ortega’s recent stabbing of two Upper West Side children, the victimized family’s neighborhood faces the challenge of coming to terms with a tragedy that is the realization of every parent’s nightmare.

...

... With wiggling toddlers in strollers, nannies came to the memorial, too. They shared condolences for the family, and attempted to make sense out of the tragedy along with the rest of the community.

“I can feel the difference when I’m walking,” said one of a group of four local nannies, all of whom agreed that the Upper West Side’s domestic workers maintain a strong social network, though none knew Ortega personally (or wanted to give their names to the press). “Normally no one acknowledges you. Now everybody’s looking in your eye.”

...

“Well, something snapped,” the fourth woman said. “No one who is healthy in her mind does that. If somebody [else] did not walk in there and do this, then something snapped in her.”

“Snapped,” in fact, is the same word Celia Ortega used to rationalize her sister’s behavior to the New York Post...

BBM cancel, cancel.... Please never say that again never. I cringed.

I am sure you are a great mom, and quality time is a gift to give your child.
too many parents do not have the time and wish they did.
Some hire nanny’s so they can give the family all the education they can afford, including many activities.
This Mom sent her children to public school so they can be like other kids, but took them to many different activities, cultural, physical, and hobbies.
It is hard to understand how something so violent can happen to such loving people.

The moment that New York nanny Yoselyn Ortega plunged a knife into her own throat after killing her two charges was witnessed by the 10-year-old son of the Super at the family's Manhattan home.

The childrens' mother, Marina Krim, returned to her Upper West Side home on October 25 to find her six-year-old daughter Lucia and two-year-old son Leo dead in a pool of blood in the bathtub.

On hearing Mrs Krim's screams, the building's super ran to the Krims apartment - with his young son trailing behind him to confront the horrific scene.

As Marina cradled her surviving daughter, N, the father and son witnessed Ortega, 50, apparently attempt to inflict a fatal wound across her throat. Her wrists had already been slit.

The young boy will almost certainly undergo therapy to overcome the trauma.

This latest detail emerged as removers packed up boxes of the Krims' belongings. Sources have suggested the family will not return to the apartment where Lucia and Leo were killed.

Wait a minute, she claimed she worked 12 hour days?

12 hours a day X $18.00 an hour = $216.00 a day X 5 days =$1018.00 a week. That is more then $50K

That is not $30K a year - somebody has fuzzy math.

She shared an apartment with her sister who also payd for the apratment in Harlm,
She sold make up and jewels, and she was broke?

MONEY MISMANAGEMENT like I have been saying.

She could live well on that income where she lives.
She can also live well on $30K especially since she is living with her sister
and the rent is split or should be.

JUST A JELOUS MONSTER.

Hmm... Interesting, Angelo... Thanks ... -- if info is correct - VERY sorry for 10 year old boy :(

P.S. Wonder if this was repoted elsewhere else ... as Dailymail.co.uk generally simply collect their info around the net (from other articles)

The article is from November 09, 2012, BTW.

Media is, often, NOT very acurate on such details (and who can blame them ... the info comes from many places, after all) ...

The bottom line is .. she wasn't making "too bad of money" -- 32 K a year, 50 K a year, lol ... "who's counting" ... -- Possibly even 37 K a year:

... Krims offered Ortega an additional five hours a week doing some cleaning.

“We think she did not appreciate doing light cleaning,” the source added. “That was not her job.”

The five additional hours would mean $90-a-week more in Ortega’s pocket, or another $4,500 a year. That would bring her annual pay to roughly $37,000
.

Whatever was building up in her head, the Krims did not see it coming...

Gosh, if I had always gotten paid what I THOUGHT it was worth, wouldn't the world be a splendid place?? That Nanny needs to get off the cross, we need the wood!

 • #459
I don't care if she had money problems or not...killing 2 children are not going to solve her problems. Anyone could understand that. I think there is much more to this atrocious murder than money problems. IMO it was revenge, hatred and jealousy.

Does New York State Law state that someone MUST be arraigned within a certain amount of days after being charged?

Tonight on HLN (CNN) the guy from DNAINFO.com was on there (Maurice) and he said the salary was $18/hr BUT he said she made $600/month. So I don't know if he misspoke or if perhaps she was clearly a very part-time nanny.
