If I ever win the lottery after I give my tithe to the church and pay my debts I would definitely do something like that and you all would be invited! I'd also make grants available LE could apply for to help fund searches for missing children.

Of course I'm talking about a big lottery win!

That would be an extremly generous thing to do.

A couple hundred mil should cover everything you'll need. :)

Okay, admitting I am a google maps dummy over here.

How do you put all the little pins and markers on to the google maps? Is there some sort of secret toolbar I need to download?? I have my map, I want to mark areas upon it but don't know how?

A little help?

A group of us from work are planning a road trip to Hickory this weekend. What we think we are going to accomplish, I do not know. We just wanna help out if we can. We all work for the GCSO, but we are going as civilians. Of course, DH doesn't think this is a very good idea.

Folks, if anyone is planning on going out to an active search area, my advice would be to notify the Sheriffs' dept prior to arriving. That way they can account for everyone and do not have to worry about you as well as all of the other searchers, as well as site contamination. They have a lot going on now and might very well appreciate the help- I would just notify first.

You should have a toolbar either on top of your screen or on the left side that lets you choose 'flags' (and colors for flags etc.) Scroll through your icons and you will probably find it. You should not have to download anything- it is a feature of google.

marking up a map is easier in google earth IMO, but can be done in google maps as well.
type in where you want to go
a sidebar should pop up
choose the option my maps
choose the option create a map
now you can title it, describe it as well as put pins on it.
if you need to add more just go back to your saved map and edit
hth

I have checked every toolbar option, even downloaded the stupid google toolbar and none of any of the things listed up there offer me flags or pushpins or any of those handy gadgets others use?

any news on search sites today? are they still out along Christy?

My understanding is they called it a night right now but will be back out in full force tomorrow morning.

sarx is right- goodle earth is easier to flag and map (most of the time.) Do you already have google earth on your computer?

okay, gotta log out for a few and switch to my logon with admin capabilities so I can download google earth. Back in a few. ty guys.

I sometimes wonder if I am an idiot savant, some thing I can do with the greatest of ease, intuitively, other things, notsomuch.

"goodle" earth is good! lol

Hey! At least my coordinates don't put me in Pakistan or wherever!

GOOGLE. GOOGLE EARTH, folks. My bad. Google Earth is your friend when trying to locate possible search areas. Until it crashes your computer, or you fall asleep on it and it types out goodle for you.

ETA: perhaps that's what I should rename my high tech mapping program. :)

If anyone is coming from far locales, especially from i-40, let me know! I'd like to plan a trip down there, myself. I'd love to meet up. I live about an hour away.

sarx- on that area 1...I'm missing the size parameters. And it's not listed in the google shot. I can guesstimate, but we all know where that gets us. Can you give me distance for N/S/E/W? or at least total acreage? TIA.

It was the Philippines and that just happened to be highly classified information! LOL

ty sarx, sorry, missed your post til just now. Gonna give it a try with your dummied down just for me instructions, lol

Should work tl...if you download google earth, do it while you're sleeping or otherwise occupied but not while on the computer. Otherwise it will infuriate you with its speed of light downloading. NOT!
