Zahra Baker Search and Recovery Effort and Input

Was just going by the thread title, my friend. :) We can always have a separate non-mapping SAR thread...didn't mean the mappers-only folks had to leave. Just that a second thread might be in order if too many on this thread are opposed to other SAR discussions here.

Again, me, I like it all.

Not meaning this as snarky because I totally see you point. But if there are those who do not wish to wade through all the mapping and topography they are more than welcome to create a more general discussion search related thread. I am simply trying to honor what I know THIS thread was created for.

still friends?

So, assuming they did find something of significance today, what's the pattern. EB didn't live off Christie Rd. Not that I'm aware. That makes me think the patterns are a route. One she/he knows well.

Or am I just grasping at straws here?

Perhaps sarx can help with this but can someone tell me why they would be collecting and bagging leaves along the river bank. It sure appeared to me that's what they were doing when they showed that huddle. Would it be because they are interested in the area underneath and they don't want to lose any possible evidence in the leaves and debris on top?

Was that footage taken by the helicopter shortly before LE pushed them and other media back?

TIA

Ya'll are going to force me to put a "Barney" song up in here.........everyone's just "frazzled", it seems like they have been so close to saying they found her only to move the search area again. Everybody just reach up and hug the poster on top of you and we'll get through this too.

Of course! :) And already done! I did not realize that sarx had created the thread for the benefit of LE.

I don't think anyone minds wading through the mapping stuff...it's fascinating. But I've made a new thread for any non-technical SAR effort discussion so we don't have any tension when someone posts about other SAR stuff:

Just a story to share as far as creeks rising into full blown rivers. We were on a packing trip in the Rockies riding horses, Beautiful day.We crossed several creeks fly fishing along the way. Very desolate country about 8 thousand ft elevation and climbing. We had a guide. BAMMM a huge thunderstorm hit and we got separated. We had walkie talkies, but,,,no workie no talkie. I took a few back down the mountain and the creeks rose to full blown rivers. We had to swim the horses across the now raging rivers being swept along until we made it to a bank on the other side. We made it safely. But I was amazed how quickly the water rose and how fast the current was. I will never question when water is involved that bones, evidence even vehicles can be moved miles. Sorry for the ot but it some how relates.

Feel free to put the Barney song in the "other" thread. lol

I read the first page of this and the title and apparently I have been confused as I didn't realize this was a search-and-rescue specific thread. I had the feeling (maybe erroneously) that it was EB and AB giving the help on locations and, hence, was posting about such EB/AB helping search and rescue. I hereby apologize to SAR and LE who are reading this page in the search for Zahra.

LE has their own mapping people and they know exactly what they need and want to do and how to mark the sites they have already searched. IMO, they know where they need to search from the tips and information they have gotten. Just JMO.

Everyone here has done a very good job, and I have been very interested in this thread.

ty so much Sherbie. I am like, you, no SARs person or map person but I also find it fascinating. Plus I finally am gaining some mapping skills in the bargain, lol

ETA and the only other way for me to help is scary and I couldn't go there ;)

If LE is smart (and I think they are) they are using all resources, not just their own.

okay so sarx, I am so not a water table, flow rate kinda gal. Have you gotten what you needed earlier regarding water levels? I would love to to it but that is totally out of my element. the one I linked from USGS was like trying to read a foreign language.

The USGS doens't have a gauge on the Upper Little River. They have one on the nearby Lower Little River, similar watershed size, flow, etc. I can decipher that if you're still interested?

can't even recall his name off top of my head. With his name and with EB's arrest record, coupled with knowing the approx date EB AB and Z got here we could certainly figure it out.

late Nov or Dec 2008 is when they arrived here. And lived with him until March 2009.

I know his name, just not sure if it would be okay to post it. We're not sleuthing HIM, we're sleuthing HER, and she did live there. Maybe a mod can give us a ruling on this?

darn, so my link was useless anyway. No thanks on the lower one but appreciate the offer :)

Here's what I'm thinking...if this were a house EB grew up in, she'd know the area VERY well. I have addresses, but I don't know if any of these addresses belonged to her father. If we're missing a pattern, perhaps it's because we're missing a crucial address. Make sense?

I'm doing about 12 things at once, but did take a quick look and there was a few times that the water levels spiked from like 10 cfs to near 100 cfs and water level rose about 2 feet. That is pretty significant.

If LE is smart (and I think they are) they are using all resources, not just their own.

Most times LE is kind of closed ranks. They will follow their tips and leads, and map off areas they feel should be searched. I honestly do not believe that they willl use their resources searching areas suggested by the general public. I have never known them to do that in all the years my late husband was in LE, and he retired after 21 years of service.

I respect the work on the maps and am very interested in seeing the maps that have been posted. Today has sort of been showing maps of where LE is searching, and I think that is great.

JMO
