Boutique Stay Hotel Soft-Launches in the Cecil
Published: Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at 05:10PM DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Billed as a "boutique hotel / youth hostel hybrid," Stay Hotel soft-launched three weeks ago inside the Cecil Hotel.

When complete, the [Stay] hotel concept will occupy 138 of the Cecil's 600 rooms, targeting European travelers with a range of room types from dorm-style to those with private baths.

Stay's lobby, located in the building's northernmost Main street storefront, has more in common with the Standard than it does with the rest of the Cecil.
Rooms for Stay occupy floors four through six of the historic hotel. Renovations have put a door card system in place of the keys used throughout the rest of the hotel and flat screen TVs on the walls.

Currently Stay and the Cecil do share an elevator bank. They hope to add separate elevators eventually, but that's an expensive proposition. Shared facilities on the hallway are keycarded just for guests on the floor, though.

Or maybe they got a good deal on surplus jackets when the Soviet Union broke up. :floorlaugh:
Trying to catch up again and feel like I'm on an emotional roller coaster. Was smiling and crying alternately while reading Elisa's tumbler post about her meds and emotional state (what a lovely young lady she was). Then I read your post and burst out laughing. :( :/ :)

If she was hallucinating / having some sort of mental episode which affected her like a bad acid trip would, she might have hidden in the tank.

At the highest zoom you can clearly see the three fire escape ladders leading to the roof from the end of each wing. You can see the stairs access from the east flight of stairs. And you can see that once on the roof it would not be difficult to climb up to the top of the utility room and down to the water tanks. On the other hand, because of the vertical ladders, I think it would be very difficult to haul an unconscious or dead body up.

It also looks like there are rooms up and down the length of the fire escape whose windows open up out onto the fire escape landings. If she or her theoretical attacker had one of these rooms, she/they could've made it out onto the roof without setting off either the roof access or fire alarms. As for why the hotel is insisting the alarmed service door is the only way onto the roof...seems like a clear case of CYA to me.

And here is one crucial contradiction with how LAPD and the Cecil Hotel has told the public and reporters about how the rooftops where the four water tanks are located, hatch openings -unlocked-,

but doorways are locked, and secured with an alarm trigger that is set to ring continuously at the hotel if the door is open, and can only be disarmed if a special key is inserted in the alarm panel to disable it.

So I wonder, how did these teenagers make it up the rooftop to do something stupid like this on February 14, 2012?

Elisa Lam was staying on the 4th floor (Stay on Main Hostel) in the Cecil Hotel. In the CCTV elevator recording, she is on the 14th floor on the Cecil Hotel owned floors.

Heart failure, although she was way too young for that. I have seen it with the elderly. When the heart is failing, they do not get enough oxygen to the brain and act really bizarre and sometimes very combative towards others.
Really, undiagnosed heart issues are not all that uncommon in young people, so that it a valid thought.

Another one I would like to add is: she walked into a cobweb (not so unrealistic after reading some of the reviews stating The Cecil is not all that clean) and she was trying to disengage the filaments from the front of her shirt, her hands and her fingers. I did re-watch the video after thinking of that possibility, and I really don't think that's the case, but nothing should be discounted. Without being present or even having audio to give us a clue, it could be so many things. I hope that the toxicology and brain tests will either help determine whether there was a medical issue, or rule that out.

Could she have run out of her meds, or suddenly stopped taking them? What would be the effects of this?

Wonder if someone might have stolen her meds?
The side effects from abruptly quitting some meds
are pretty extreme.

Sorry, but could anybody repost the information that Elisa Lam was on medication or had history of using medication/drugs?

OK, just an outside-the-box thought here.

In the tumbler entry talking about the new guy she was interested in:

http://nouvelle-nouveau.tumblr.com/post/40549046425/more-so-theres-a-guy-im-interested-in-but

She mentioned the that he plays L4D as part of what makes him "very very very right". Is that Left 4 Dead? It seems so completely odd that she would mention this, amidst the facts that he plays bass, wears bowties and has a good smile. Was she a gamer? Did she mention video games in any other posts?

Could some combination of drugs / lack of meds / lack of sleep / lack of glasses have caused her to at one point think she's in some video game escaping zombies, and to decide to hide in the cistern?

I know this is a way-out suggestion. Or does L4D stand for something else?

This is ' allegedly' her tumblr page and pics of her meds. I'm assuming it is hers
or MODS would have pulled the plug on it a while back.

There is no "allegedly" about it.

1.) Elisa is positively identified as "lambetes" on Twitter in the linked Tweets posted after her death: https://twitter.com/search?q=lambetes&src=typd

2.) On Dec. 6, Elisa/Lambetes said she posted to a fashion blog under the name "L.L.": https://twitter.com/lambetes/status/276724195994505216

3.) On the blog owned by the woman Elisa/Lambetes tweeted on Dec. 6, here is a comment by "L.L." with the name linking to the nouvelle-nouveau Tumblr: http://finalfashion.ca/it-takes-time/#comments

The nouvell-nouveau Tumblr does have posts through Feb. 18, and the reasons for this have been covered ad nauseam in this and the previous thread.

Now, how do we know exactly which floor she's on in the elevator recording? I'm sorry, I must have missed it.

If you do a search on reddit for elisa's name, there are several interesting posts in the los angeles subreddit. One poster who actually lived in Stay On Main for a few months posted about how he would frequently go to the roof and even posted a picture of a friend on the roof. From the photos of the building, it appears you can get to the roof via the fire escapes easily. Young kids probably hang out there all the time.

Still does not explain how she got into the water tank. I just don't think she climbed in there by herself.

Another thought: a few folks in the LA reddit who work/live near the Cecil say there are buildings higher than the Cecil and you can easily see what's going on there. Wonder if any CCTV cameras caught the perp putting her body in. Or caught her outside with any friends. There has to be other information.

Ok good. I don't use tumbler and was not aware it existed until this thread and just browsing the pages put up here, it's kind of confusing. I probably will NOT be making an account. But answer this if you will... is it a sort of on line diary / journal? That's what it seems to me. tks

I have been aware of it for a couple years, but it's definitely something "the kids are doing these days" and a bit after my time as well. Essentially, it is a blog that lets users post and re-post each other's photos, writings, and/or videos. The easiest way to navigate and look for things written by Elisa is to go to the "archive" page. When you scroll down, you will notice that some boxes are just text. You want to look for the text boxes that do not have some other name or caption preceding the text. For example, if the box starts with "abcdefg: I went to the mall today..." that means it was written by someone else and re-posted. If it just says "I went to the mall today..." then it is probably something Elisa wrote, unless you click on it and there is a message on the right side of the text that says "This post was re-blogged from..."

"L4D" stands for Left for Dead, which as you pointed out, is a game of zombie survival. Typically played online with up to four people including yourself.

On a side note, speculation of her personality based on social media posting can be misleading. She is showing what she wants to, because after all, social media is to an audience. Its just as presumable that she wanted her desired audience to see something she wants.

People use it for different reasons. The ones I follow are about historical clothing and costumes from movies of different eras, and do not included much personal info about the page owner. Some use them as a blog or almost a website, some for very personal journal-type entries.
