FL FL - DeLand, Male Skeletal UP12776, 18-25, in Garbage Bag, Mar'14

There are a lot of people this could be, I guess. I have kept my eye on this because I thought of several. I guess different counties submit their missing to them to check and it could take a while. So sad to end in a trash bag.

I agree. There are so many missing! And depending on how old the remains are it could take a while.
It could be anyone and I've even thought of little Cara Cox, missing from nearby Deltona FL in 2009, even though Cara's case was a matter of her father abducting her. I hate to think that it might be Cara and would much rather think her father has her someplace, but ya never know.

I wonder what made the man who found this bag sure it was a female. Long hair, any clothes he saw?

The only thing I remember is that he said the child was wrapped in a yellow or tan sheet and that he thought it was female. Unfortunately, there have been no other details given--that I know of.

Yes, it could be about anyone. I looked yesterday and there are so many young women missing in florida but only a few young girls as the man who found the remains said it looked link. Many of those are parent related too.

Depending on how long the remains where there it could be difficult for an average person to determine aprox age by a skull IMO. Wouldn't it be safe to say that a teenager of small stature could have a skull that appears smaller then an adult and someone could look at it and think it was a smaller child?

In one of the links posted earlier, Misty had said something about Haleigh being wrapped up in yellow rope/blanket/sheet....and then put in a bag. All the whole she was coming off a drug binge. This makes me wonder, combined with what was vaguely described at the scene where the remains were found, if this is Haleigh.

I was hoping to come back from vacation and find out this poor person had been identified. So sad :(

I completely understand, Carbuff.

Every time I take a computer hiatus I scurry back to see if any of these people have gotten their name back.

I was hoping the same thing. Why does this take SO long?

I'm going to wing it RoseTree, but it could be the bones are aged, very little if any soft/skin tissue would be present (especially after 6 months or so in FL weather) From the man who found the remains he visualized a young girl. Hair would be present after a few years, maybe even jewelry or the clothing indicating age.

The remains were called skeletal remains. Bone marrow would take longer to examine, if present. Dental would be out for id'ing if the child had no dental record.

It's one of the missing but it sounds like it could be Haleigh. The other day a young girl was found out here at Apache Lake. There were hopes it was one of the children missing due to the 3 who found the remains & their descripton of a young girl. It turned out to be a 20 year old, weighed 135 or so. I'm not sure I could deteremine skeletal remains age upon sight though anymore than anyone else. I'm sure it's haunting though. My thoughts are with the finders of the missing too.

Length of time to determine depends on what labs forensic samples are sent to. Each state varies. Maybe FBI has stepped in and that's why it's taking so long & not much is released. That means something big imo.

I think you're probably right, Dr. Know. If the bones were dried out, or burned, or compromised by other materials in the bag with them, recovering DNA might be difficult and time-consuming. Some of the procedures used to multiply trace DNA can take weeks to run.

The Volusia County (Fla.) medical examiner’s office has analyzed the remains and issued a preliminary report, but the sheriff’s office there is withholding the findings pending further testing by a human identification specialist at the University of Florida.
“We still have no idea who the victim is and don’t have a firm fix yet on the age/gender,” Gary Davidson, spokesman for the Volusia County sheriff, said via email.

Remains were found in a bag approx 2ft in diameter. I'm a tiny adult, but I don't think I could squeeze myself into a bag that size, intact. I'm also doubting these remains were anything near adult size/weight because I would have though just one bag wouldn't have held the weight?

I don't know though. The remains could have been disinterred from elsewhere, before being put into a bag and dumped. They may already have been skeletonized in that case, and already light.

Sorry for spamming the thread. I'm still catching up after vacation.

I can tell you from scary experience that a five foot 12-year-old with knees drawn up to chest fits quite easily in a black garbage bag. Good thing he was just fooling around with materials for a Halloween costume and that I was in the room. He was just curious about whether it would fit, so he squatted down and pulled it over his head.

I am 4'11" and weigh 95 pounds, and I am 26 years old, I could fit in a garbage bag I'm pretty sure so it COULD be an adult, but I really want Haleigh to be found, it's time.

Ok. So there's my daily dose of fat shame. I was wondering when it was coming lol.

You could like... fit into one of my pants legs like a sleeping bag so of course you could fit in a garbage bag. I have a friend who can fit completely with space left in a cooler. He can also lay flat in one of those under bed storage things

LOL me too. They'd need one of those supersize contractor bags for me :D

You girls are lovely!
I don't know how someone could pick up a trash bag if it weighed over 30 plus pounds, without it tearing and ripping. If it was an industrial strength, it may be better. I know they now have the stretchy bags, but don't know when those first came out. I guess a strong person could pick the bag up from the floor and not the ties. IDK!
I've been cleaning out my garage and 2 old bags of dried up potting soil and they were 20 lbs each with some missing. I had a hard time when I put them in a trash bag, and decided to dump them in the ditch instead.

:floorlaugh: OMG I just want to fry some chicken and bake some biscuits and feed you!

I've been checking this sight hoping for Haleigh as well.

That's a good point about the bag ripping from the weight. I guess you'd have to put something like a shower curtain or area rug or something under it and drag it? I dunno, I never thought about disposing of a body before.
