ARUBA - Robyn Gardner, 35, Maryland woman missing in Aruba, 2 Aug 2011 - # 1

I've been following the case on and off because of Breeann's case so I admit having missed some of the coverage. I do however have a difficult time with women coming out for their 15 minutes on NG or any other show and accusing him on television for doing all these horrific things to them. Hellllo??? Why didn't they report him to the police? I understand there were restraining orders against his ex wife (or maybe 2 wives don't recall) but his family claims they were bitter divorces and the restraining orders were from both parties. Him and her.

I'm still on the fence about what happened to Robyn. If he did murder her, why tell authorities she drowned. If he had a lot of money, he could've just disappeared to another country and never been found.

Now this whole insurance policy (if true) does put a new twist to the case. With that said, if there is no evidence of a crime and a lot of evidence of a possible accidental drowning, he may just get away with it. :twocents:

My bolding

He probably realized that once she would have been reported missing it would easily have been traced back to him. It was known that she was going to Aruba with him, and the flight info and passport info would have verified it. Maybe he saw himself as smarter than he really is and thought he could get away with it. Lots of criminals start out thinking they're smart.
JMHO

Thankx! But $88k a year does not quailfy you for a 1.2 mil real estate purchase. I still think his "money situation" just might play into all this especially hearing that he now MAY HAVE taken a 1.5 mil life ins policy out on RG.

And not only that solution to a "money situation". There could possibly be other revenues gathered from exploiting this woman in harming her and eventually murdering her.

Whereas, she may have thought she was exploiting him. Not sure yet on that.

I think it is only good while you are traveling.Plane crash etc.She still would have to sign that policy. It is on her life not his and the companies are too aware of scams.Without a body they will not pay. They will do there own investigation. GG is not as smart as he thinks he is and it will take him down.To note these are only accidental and the ones airports offer. So it would have to
be an accidental death. So hence she drowned (says GG) but no body to prove it and now he is arrested. They won't pay he can forget it.No not the same as a life insurance policy which also pays for natural causes of death.
The AMEX policy that I have recently purchased for my trip did not require a signature. But my plan (there are different plans with different levels of coverage) only pays out $25,000 (accidental death)...so that may mean why he upgraded. I'll check it out. You can name anyone you want as a beneficiary.

ETA: if she had been drinking and under the influence of drugs (with the exclusion of drugs prescribed to her), I doubt they would pay out for accidental death as it is one of the exclusions. Now, if he made an attempt to purchase something out of the ordinary (all the AMEX plans I've reviewed so far have a $25,000 pay out) then I could see it as being suspicious. Otherwise, not so much.

I have never been to Aruba either, but since you are familiar with a sister island, please comment on the ease of disposing of a body. Please forgive me if this has already been discussed upthread. It there is so much rock, and coral, how could you easily dig a grave and where would get the tools? I've heard various stories about whether release in the sea would work well. We know Natalie's body went somewhere, which is still a mystery, and now this poor girl. I don't understand it.

I can tell you this Prancy, if Aruba is anything like Bonaire, which I'm told it is, there is no way she is buried. You cannot dig with a simple shovel, it would take a jackhammer to get through that coral. One of our friends had a small in ground pool put in & it cost him $30,000 just to dig the hole and it is a small pool. We had clothes drying poles installed at our house & it cost us $700 for 2 poles because they had to dig. Even in the areas where you have dirt, once you get down a foot or 2 you run into that rock hard coral. Nope, she is not buried. As far as disposal of a body at sea, I would say that is certainly possible, but I don't know why the body would not come to shore eventually because on the windward sides of the islands the waves are huge & the shore is littered with all kinds of cruise ship junk & broken coral brought in from the sea. In Natalee's case, Joran had access to a boat & could have taken her far out with some weight on her. Once a body gets down a couple hundred feet, it won't be coming back up again, perfect example are deep shipwrecks, the bodies stay in the wrecks. They don't even bury their dead on Bonaire, the bodies are in above ground crypts like in New Orleans. New Orleans does it because of sea level, but Bonaire does it because its impossible to dig all those graves. Hope this helps.

riiight. Who is the other employee? That is the question. I bet there were escorts and *advertiser censored* involved.

Missing in Aruba: Suspect Took Out $1.5 Million Insurance Policy

Authorities in Aruba are investigating an insurance policy taken out by Gary Giordano before his trip to Aruba as a possible motive in the disappearance of missing Maryland woman Robyn Gardner.

The investigation into the $1.5 million accidental death policy on Gardner -- which names Giordano as a beneficiary -- has been confirmed exclusively with ABC News by a police source in Aruba, as has the fact that he purchased the pricier one-year policy over the cheaper, more commonly purchased five-year policy.

He flat out told a young (under 18) model and her mother he would pay them large sums of money on their trip to Aruba with him, if they would consent to have sex with him. That's was said on an interview NG had on her show.

Just catching up here, but honestly, I found those two .. mother/agent and her model/daughter extremely fake/unbelievable and only in it for the media attention (which they managed to capture very well). JMO

I did not see the NG show with them on it. Need a link.

I don't remember reading that the friend said Robyn knew about the charges against him by other women.

I didn't read it, I heard her best friend tell JVM that on HLN. She said I'd like to tell you that Robyn didn't know these things about Gary before she left with him Jane, but I'm sad to say I can't because she did know.

Sadly, some are smart and don't get charged until years later, if ever. In this case I don't see what he had to gain by going to authorities. It's obvious he was the last one to have seen her and he is being accused so what was the purpose? If it was premeditated he would've been long gone and starting over with a new potential victims. The insurance policy could be a possible motive but so far, they don't seem to have much on him.

This may be wrong but wasn't it the exwife that she was talking about? And Gary led her to believe that it wasn't that bad, or something like the exwife was at fault?

Hmmmm, I didn't think so, but could be, going to look for link to the show.

ETA: Can't find a link to JVM show on 8/15. Will keep looking.....

Well, I've never been to Aruba Marikesh, but I do own a house on the sister island Bonaire. Most of the land is made up of rock hard coral which is very sharp. If you plan to go off road when exploring the island you want a truck, SUV, 4-wheel type of vehicle, not only for the power but also for the bigger tires. There are lots of places on Bonaire that you can't even drive to if you only have a car. Hubs & I always rent a truck for the 2 of us & our dog. Of course we're also scuba divers & the trucks have tank racks built into the beds which is a must for us. I guess what I'm getting at is that I don't find it so unusual that he rented the RAV considering the rough terrain that the ABC Islands are known for.
I love that car and have rented one to be-bop around an island. It's fun!

Thanks for the information. If she's not buried, then she's being stored somewhere. How would someone who is not familiar with the island know where to store a body? It doesn't make sense.

I wonder if they have checked with local funeral homes to ensure that some employee who was desperate for money didn't aid in disposing of a body. But, how would a tourist know who to call for that kind of thing? IT's so frustrating.

But, I thought there was a more recent article that said this may not be the case. I'm confused.

According to HLN he claims he took one out for each of them, either way one or two policies this shows premeditation imo

He has to tell authorities to collect the 1.5 million dollar accidental death insurance he took out on her.

I wonder if hes killed others?

But, I thought there was a more recent article that said this may not be the case. I'm confused.

This article is from today and also what I heard on GMA this morning. Just checked and don't find any updates.

It was reported it was an AMEX policy.

https://www295.americanexpress.com/travel-insurance/home.do?aetiSource=G&extlink=pa-aeti-G

Clicking on the choices, one has to upgrade to Platinum to get the 1.5 million dollar policy. For two people, that costs $598 instead of $180, which would have been $250,000.

The policy says that if no remains are found after one year, the person is considered dead and the amount will be paid in full to the beneficiary.
