Police and a worried family need help finding a missing Dallas educator with a speech impairment.

The search for Jennifer Mendez Olascoaga spans three North Texas communities.

According to the family, the 24-year-old Dallas resident was last seen September 27 at about 8:11 p.m. leaving a mobile home park along Highway 175 in Seagoville.

Someone spotted her abandoned car along Lawson Road in Mesquite the following morning, according to family.

Her worried loved ones and co-workers have been searching all along the rural road, walking into dense vegetation.

“It’s horrible in there. There’s a lot of thorns and everything,” said cousin Litzy Mendez. “We tried to search around here just to see if we could find evidence like shoes or wallet or phone but there’s nothing, like no clue whatsoever that will take us to her.”

Mendez Olascoaga is a Dallas ISD special education teacher’s assistant, according to brother-in-law Marco Barroso.

Synopsis:

Jennifer Mendez Olascoaga, age 24, 5'4, 250 lbs

She is an ISD special ed teaching assistant in Dallas. She's always punctual, but hasn't reported to work since Sept 27.

She has a speech impediment, but can communicate in English and Spanish.

Sept 27 she dropped friends off at their residence at a mobile home park on Hwy 175 in Seagoville. Last time she was seen she was leaving the mobile home park at 8:11 pm.

The morning of Sept 28 her car was found abandoned on Lawson Rd in Mesquite. Her purse and phone were not in the car. The driver's seat was pushed far back. The location the car was found is a 10 minute drive from the mobile home park.

Her family and co-workers have been searching in the area the car was found, on the road and in dense vegetation.

The last phone activity was at 10 pm on Sept 27.

The large family believes something sinister is behind her disappearance after learning of cryptic text messages sent to her friend.

The phone numbers are reportedly untraceable.

They have turned the messages over to Seagoville police, according to Barroso.

“Her friend she dropped off got those messages,” said Barroso. "Hey, do you miss someone? Do you miss someone? You’ll never find her. She’s gone. Jennifer Mendez and you’re next.’”

Seagoville PD confirms there is an open investigation into her disappearance but has yet to release any new information or announce any official search efforts.

The family is growing impatient as the days drag on and there’s no sign of the young woman.

They are pleading for help in their search.

The Dallas Police Department has an open ‘want to locate’ report in this case.

Anyone with information on Jennifer Mendez Olascoaga’s whereabouts is urged to call the Seagoville or Dallas Police Departments.

Family members receiving text messages from Olascoaga's friends suggest her disappearance could be linked to foul play.

Police say no contact has been made with Olascoaga and her unexplained disappearance is not normal behavior for her.

SEAGOVILLE, Texas — The Seagoville Police Department has shared information about a missing woman who was last seen in the city in late September.

According to the department, 24-year-old Jennifer Mendez Olascoaga was seen on surveillance footage on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at about 8 p.m. at the Creekside Mobile Home Park, which is off of Highway 175 by Modene Street.

Olascoaga's family then found her vehicle in Mesquite the next day, police say. Her white 2015 Buick La Crosse was found on Lawson and Milam Road, about 10 minutes away from the mobile home park.

Seagoville police say Olascoaga's family filed a missing person's report with Dallas police that Thursday, Sept. 28. The Seagoville Police Department was called about her the following Sunday.

*********

Olascoaga's brother-in-law, Marco Barroso, said his family towed her car away and said her wallet was inside.

"Something happened to her, someone did something to her because she would never leave her wallet. We tried calling her phone, it was off, her phone is never off," he said.

Investigators told WFAA they cannot yet confirm foul play is involved, but are also looking into text messages about Olascoaga that a friend of hers forwarded to a family member.

Anyone with any information about Olascoaga's disappearance or where her car was found is asked to contact the Seagoville Police Department.

Olascoaga's family will continue to search the woods in Mesquite near where her car was found.

(It is concerning to see that apparently the PD didn't process the car for finger prints or DNA. The PD is looking into the text messages, but it sounds like all of the searching of the area is being done by the family.)

Not only was this car not processed by PD but why did PD not tow the car and family did? Does PD think it is voluntary?
If so she still needs to be found and could still be at risk.

Olascoaga's brother-in-law, who wants to be identified only as Marco, is careful to remain hopeful in the words he uses, but says their family is understandably distraught.

"I think the first three days were just very hard for us—for everybody—because we can't find her. We can't find her," Marco said. "Once we go home...we're going to have a bed to lay in, and we don't know if she's even being safe."

He says Olascoaga would not have just disappeared on her own. And when she didn't show up for work on Thursday, school staffers notified the family—who later learned the friend who she dropped off the night of her disappearance received some disturbing text messages.

"While we were doing the police report, we got some messages of random phone number saying, 'Are you missing someone? You'll never find her, and you know you'll never see her again,'" Marco said.

The car was found abandoned near a busy highway just 10 min away from the last place JO was seen. I hope there are tips and leads being called in! If someone abandoned a vehicle, I wonder how they would leave the area. Another vehicle? Walk along the highway? Go through the woods?

The Seagoville Police Department acknowledged the text messages in a social media statement but did not disclose any details about the content of the messages.

“These text messages contained content that would lead one to believe that Jennifer’s disappearance may involve foul play,” said the statement, which was posted on the department’s Facebook page on Tuesday.

Barroso, identified by CBS only as Marco, told the news outlet that the text messages were sent from a "random" phone number.

According to the statement from Seagoville police, family members claim Olascoaga’s vehicle was last seen with a surveillance camera on Sept. 27 at a mobile home park where she was dropping off the friend who would later receive the mysterious text messages. Family members then discovered Olascoaga’s car a day later in Mesquite, Texas, which is about five miles from the park.

Barroso told WFAA that “someone did something to her,” because she was not likely to leave behind her wallet, which they found inside her car.
“We tried calling her phone, it was off. Her phone is never off," Barroso said.

The desperate search for a missing Dallas ISD employee continued Friday as friends and family of Jennifer Mendez Olascoaga gathered in Seagoville where the 24-year-old was last seen.

“We’re just out here on Belt Line trying to get maybe some footage, spread the word out here if anybody saw her last. You know, just trying to get something,” said Mendez Olascoaga’s brother-in-law Marco Barroso.

Thursday, Barroso said the family learned of surveillance footage showing Mendez Olascoaga at a QuickTrip gas station along BeltLine and Highway 175 shortly after 8 p.m. on the night of Sept. 27.

It’s the family’s first new information in days that Barroso said the family hopes will lead to more.

The text messages that the friend of JO received after JO's disappearance came from an "untraceable number" according to JO's brother-in-law. Can someone shed some light on what LE can do with phone number tracing? Let's say a burner phone was used. That has to be purchased somewhere by someone. Even if ordered off the internet there's a method of payment that's necessary. Why no trace?

That Quik Trip gas station is just a few miles from where she dropped off the friend. I am not sure if she went there before or after dropping the friend off only because the other reports say she dropped off the friend around 8.

The reporter on this video says the QuikTrip visit occurred after dropping off the friend. Thanks @aggiekel2005
