Jurors are looking at photos of the SUV with stickers attached to it to indicate where the evidence was collected from.

Lally def has more pep in his step, but it’s a cumbersome process.
Lally asks to approach, gives photos to witness, witness reviews, affirms content, Lally asks to enter them to evidence, asks to approach, court reporter enters the evidence, Lally then asks to show.

Judge explaining to Lally that when he puts his head down to read, the jury can’t hear him.“You need to speak up,”

We’re looking at another spot on the SUV.
Lally introduces more photos.

We are looking at another photo of Read’s SUV, with a sticker where Harnett says the hair was collected, another noting the damage.
Lally introducing more photos.

Lally asking how the evidence was collected from the vehicle. Asking about the process.

Harnett details hair collection - tweezers, glassine bag.
Lally asking about the other evidence.
Harnett says she was given red solo cups & a broken glass.
She swabbed the solo cups, and returned them.

Back at the lab, Harnett testified she examined the taillight & hair.
Detailing SOP.

Lally asking about how the items were logged, and the process of examining the evidence (spray area down, masks, gloves).
She explains why and how she swabbed for DNA

Now to the photos - the taillight she tested with scale reference.

Jurors have moved to the “doctor’s waiting room” gaze…almost lunch time.

Lally asking about testing of hair.

Earlier Harnett testified that she did bloom screening tests on the car & they were negative

Harnett testifying that she doesn’t know what part of the body the hair came from.Next exhibits - John OKeefe’s sweatshirt.

Where is the blood on John's shirt? You can't tell us that he didn't bleed any from those punctures and lacerations on his arm. Where is the blood?

Did someone run this through the washer before redressing him and putting him out on the lawn?

Hartnett is testifying to evidence she collected off Reads car. This pic shown - she says it shows damage (scratches) on car and to the right of the evidence sticker is the "apparent human hair" she collected. #WBZ

Maureen Hartnett, a forensic scientist for the Mass. State Police Crime Lab is now on the stand.

Here are pictures of the interior of the SUV. Previous witnesses have noted there was a backup camera screen in the center console.

Hartnett is pointing to the damage she found and where she found the apparent glass and hair.

Need that hair sample to have the root. I'm sure it can be determined if from JO, but to have his hair with the root .. well, I guess maybe not if things were tampered with.
All this time the State Trooper team had gone there and used the correct way of searching and did, had the sneaker and so on. BUT, unsecured and with everything to lose on the lawn of Albert, hence cannot ever be sure. Missing vids of car tail lights, Higgins in the Sallyport at Canton PD with Berkowitz and EVERYTHING about all the rest of them.

The jury is looking at closeups of OKeefe’s sweatshirt.

Is this the only way to enter evidence?
Wouldn’t it be better to show a witness like this all the photo/reports/etc before the jury enters the court to review and confirm the docs, then let defense review, then enter into evidence, then bring the jury in?Serious question…

Harnett testifying about additional light sources to examine the sweatshirt.

The jury is looking at closeups of OKeefe’s sweatshirt.

Says they don’t do canine DNA testing. It gets sent out.Jurors have already heard the testimony from the canine DNA expert.

Lally establishing the samples were collected following then direction of the veterinary lab.

Jurors are looking at pictures of stains on sweatshirt, and how they were labeled.

Some jurors are fidgeting, yawning, stretching, biting nails, glancing up at the clock.

Judge picks up on jurors mood, asks Lally how quickly can he do the next evidence batch.Dismisses jury for short lunch. There is an audible sigh of relief.

Judge calls counsel to sidebar.
