Given that JLM was reportedly an avid fisher, I wish LE would organize a team of local fishers to work with SAR people. I live south of Charlottesville, and I know from experience that local fishers don't hesitate to trespass if the fishing is good and they think they can get away with it...
If I read the reports correctly, LE appears to believe that Cassandra Morton (CM) is at the top of the list. I hate to mention this out of sensitivity to the victims' families, but both MH and CM appear to have been savagely beaten... consistent with an MO that culminates in out-of-control...
True, but in thinking about "near," I'm going with the SAR team's assumption that the most likely location is within 25 minutes or so of the abduction... perhaps they're wrong!
And that was the right thing to do, I believe. I was online earlier, when the picture was available, with no information given about its source, date, etc.... I just didn't find it credible.
I'm no geologist, but it's my impression that the caves/caverns are found only in the Shenandoah Valley, where there's a big belt of limestone that gets eaten away by drip, drip, drip underground. I've never heard of any caves or caverns near Cville.
You aren't the only person who's criticized the CPD for this. Chief Longo spoke to this criticism today:
"We caught some criticism when Mr. Matthew walked out that door on that Saturday afternoon. People couldn't understand: 'How do you just let the guy walk out the door?'" Charlottesville...
I disagree with Madilu's theory too, but I'm thanking her/him nonetheless... there's always of danger of groupthink emerging in a discussion like this, and contrasting theories -- no matter how unpopular -- force us to consider the facts from a fresh perspective. Consider this: LE discounts...
The independent scientists (Independent Group, IG) are wondering too, I believe... but so far as I know, there's been no official communication between the ATSB and the IG... other than to deny requests for information that hasn't been publicly divulged.
According to respected aviation journalist Ben Sandilands, author of the Plane Talking blog on crikey.com, "[t]he search for the truth about MH370 is just as elusive on dry land as it is 6000 meters down in the timeless darkness of the southern Indian Ocean."...
There's a scanner thread? Could you please provide a link to this? I live south of Charlottesville and I've thought of listening in (I have a VHF scanner that I use for railfanning purposes...) tia
I've been puzzled by references to Hannah's last text message, in which she (or somebody) texted that she was lost in the area of 14th and Wertland Sts. This might not seem perplexing to people unfamiliar with Charlottesville, but it's very unlikely she was lost there... it's near her residence...
I hope they're searching in the right place. The independent scientific team headed by Duncan Steel believes the most likely location is further south, along the 7th arc. So far as I know the ATSB has not responded to the independent group's statement... but, significantly, the ATSB seems to...

I just wanted to say that I totally agree with this point, which you've eloquently expressed. I'm a retired university professor... and I can tell you that I'm as outraged by this situation as you are.
University of Virginia reports 47 cases of rape, sexual assault or forcible fondling on or near the university during 2013:

No information is provided concerning arrests or prosecutions. Amazingly enough, such information isn't...
The Washington Post also claims they were told by an unnamed LE source that the "forensic evidence" involved was DNA. There's been no denial of this by LE, to the best of my knowledge. Unfortunately I don't think we'll know the truth until the trial.
I wouldn't call this case "unsolved." A jury of Mr. Taylor's peers examined the evidence presented in the trial and concluded that Mr. Taylor murdered Alexis Murphy.
