    GUILTY VA - Tina Smith, 41, slain, 12yo daughter abducted, Salem, 2 Dec 2010 - #3

If we knew the date of mom's death, it would help alot. She could have been alive when they went to Walmart. If Brittany knew that her mom was dead and he did it, he could have told her any number of things to keep her quiet in Walmart, ie. I will kill you if you saying or do anything out of...

But would they pitch a tent just to start driving again in the next morning or after resting? It would not be easy to put up a brand new tent with a 12 yr old. And if it was dark, like after they left Walmart that night, it would almost be impossible. I think it would be much easier to just...

I just don't think this is going to turn out well. I don't think they have a clue as to where they are. It doesn't look like he bought any way to heat the tent so I don't think he was planning on staying in it long unless they get to a much warmer climate. I think he's on his own somewhere...

Japandaa - if it was them, it looks like they were taking back roads out of town. The 'Last known going north' point - who saw them heading that way? That's heading toward Craig Co. if you get on 311, right?

Laddsy - I do not hunt but have relatives that do and they will stay out for days on end. Pouring rain, snow, sleet or hail. They'll sit in a tree stand all day long! It is not uncommon for a group of guys (& girls too I guess) to go out for a long weekend and/or not come home until they bag...

Laddsy, this is also hunting time and there are alot of hunters out right now. But, yeah, I hope that was a good lead for LE.

I hope they really did see their tent, but LOTS of people have blue dome tents, myself included. Red, blue and green are the most popular colors. In fact, you don't see many that are not one of those colors.

I think that may be it. There looks to be another camera behind them over the entrance doors (black circle thing). Hopefully that camera was working and LE knows what he was doing. It was freezing that night (last Friday). We actually had several inches of snow here and Salem got a coating...

Ah, you're the one. I saw your post about almost running into them the other day!! wow, that has to be unsettling. Which way were they going? I'm thinking they may have gone up 460 toward Elliston area since no one remembers seeing them on I-81 and LE ruled out them being in Craig or Botetourt...

Ok I got a question that I want to throw out to you experts and see what your take is: Mom's car is the one they are traveling in. Now, originally when this story broke, LE was looking for both mom's car and JE's car. They then reported a day or two later that JE's car was found but did not...

The brother had a different dad which he did not have a relationship with. Brittany's dad shared custody with her mom and from all accounts was active in her life.

I agree. I have shopped in this very Walmart and spent way over $100 and also gotten money back and I have never been asked to show an ID. No one has ever even looked at my card. I swipe it and put it right back in my wallet.

He could certainly tell (lie) her he had one. I agree, I think she looks very scared and who pushes a buggy with one hand behind their back.

I thought she was reported absent from school on Friday? Isn't that when they saw her and her mom shopping?? And about the 'dark' messages she left - do you think she may have been talking about her own family that was going to report her. I'm beginning to think that mom was just not all...
