Prosecutor Juan Martinez releases new book, February 2016 - #1

You guys are taking me back to the whole white dress, blue dress, gold dress internet craze with the foot thing! I see a foot, which yes, looks covered in a sock or some sort of spandex material, and poor Travis head turned ever so slightly to the right, his right arm above him and his foot...

BBM Her eyes look so dead and soul-less in that selfie.

The socks are also an example of premeditation. If she had just lost in a crime of passion, why would she think to wear socks over her shoes? I know that it couldn't be used in court, but perhaps one of the clues that helped them piece it all together in the beginning.

In this version of the photo, it looks as if Travis' head is turned to the right. Definitely lifted, suggesting he is still alive. : (

First, I want to express my appreciation to you and all of the others who are taking the time to share excerpts from the book. Secondly, am I remember correctly that somewhere upthread JA was very concerned about a video being retrieved from the camera? Could this by why?

My book arrived late this afternoon, but I don't know when I'll ever have time to read it. I teach and have a 1 year old and 5 year old, so I very much appreciate the tidbits. But post them at your leisure. Thanks, Hope.

I never realized that part of it had been whited out. Let me guess; too prejudicial? Any guesses as to what was originally written? ETA: Sorry. Late to the game. After posting this I read your speculations. But was it whited out in the trial?

Frightening! Very glad that he is OK. My mom just lost her car in arson a little over a week ago! People are NUTS!

Gee, I don't think so. I know there's a fusion burrito place where we used to eat spaghetti when I was younger. It was such an old-school restaurant with red velvet wallpaper, hence The Red Room, which was adjacent to it. We all still recognize it as the Santa Cruz Hotel building, though.

I'm 41 with two small children now, so it's been a while since I've been out at night...I know they do karaoke at the Surf Bowl near the Boardwalk. We're a college town, so it's a possibility that there's a karaoke bar somewhere downtown. Why did they go out in Santa Cruz? I can't remember...

Yes, downstairs. And they're both in a building that used to be the Santa Cruz Hotel. I remember eating spaghetti at the Santa Cruz Hotel restaurant when I was a little girl (and having a drink at The Red Room in my twenties!) I also worked in the restaurant industry while going to college in...

I am a Santa Cruz native and still live here (I went to college in nearby Monterey). I've been to the Red Room. There's a funky bar downstairs called The Red Room and The Red restaurant and bar upstairs. There also is a restaurant just a couple of miles from my home that has been here for...
