Tick Tock, Tick Tock...that is sound of Baez's time running out. (Bonus points if you know the show I stole that from).

At least I hope so. It's ridiculous that HHJP keeps giving in and allowing more time. How in Hades is this trial going to start on time when the defense keeps getting more time to waste? I don't like this. When is enough going to be enough, HHJP? Stand up to this inept defense team and tell them to do their dang jobs for once!

I really hope he's not like this at trial. I will not be able to take it!

Nearly two and a half years after the crime, Baez still hasn't gotten around to interviewing all the witnesses. Memories do fade after time. And, he's not interested in taking their depositions, but instead want to send out an investigator to talk to them. Seems to me that Baez has used this same argument before, and the number of witnesses isn't shrinking. :banghead:

dexter (who sadly is divorcing Deborah ..his co-star wife) rumor has it she's going to be killed off next season because of it :(

I also find it ridiculous that HHJP keeps allowing more time, because it doesn't seem as though Baez accounts for the time spent as requested by the judge.

Interviewing or even FINDING them !! And what's this about asking Judge Perry for more info on the searchers he wants to interview? Addresses and phone numbers ??? WTH ?? :waitasec:

OMG baez gets another 175 hours for his fishing expedition!

That's o.k. JB can burn 1,000 hours IMO because there are no fish to catch. He is just wasting time.... to create a perception of due-diligence.

Okay. This is what I don't get. JAC and HHJP both knew this was a death penalty case when they allocated the initial investigative hours. But now they really know it's a death penalty case so the hours should be more generous? Generous to the point that it is immaterial how many hours they've already exceeded ~ Just add 110 extra ones on top of that. Because death is on the table. I think that fine toothed comb that HHJP has been talking about has lost several teeth!

People like JB love it when the line in the sand keeps moving in their direction because they quickly understand that it means there's really no line at all.

I'm steamed.

... or is it giving JB enough rope to hang himself but none to appeal with?

Given that ICA is expecting a promised 'mistrial' I agree with those who think HHJP is just investing upfront to ensure that we do this one time and one time only.

No soup for you ICA, you are done. You had a fair trial ... goodbye!

And ...I'm sure J Perry is aware of how much the State have spent in prosecuting this case which may have factored into his decision. I'm not a Florida tax payer, but I'm sure they would ultimately prefer this case was tried just one time and that no appellant court found the defense team were hampered in finding potential exculpatory evidence against Ms Anthony.

Basically Baez has till the end of the month to put up or shut up.

HHJP is also aware of a key focus and theme across all of the Defense motions and actions ... and that has been one of ICA getting a fair trial.

The Defense has nothing so they are using that this is both a high profile case and a DP case to push back against the SA that ICA cannot and did not get a fair trial.

The Defense would like nothing better than be able to prove that they were handicapped or treated unfairly or in-equitably to use as a basis for appeal.

I'd even go so far as to say that the 'indigency' thing was a planned strategy to maximize the benefit of being officially penniless in a DP case to better illustrate how they were cash strapped by JAC to adequately defend ICA.

HHJP is painfully aware of this given the demise of HHJS ... and JB keeps on pushing the envelope to get the result he seeks ... while HHJP just accomodates knowing full well JB cannot push the envelope much further.

Time is running out for JB and his Indigent games ... Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock. HHJP is running out the clock. Dong, dong, dong. Time's up!

Does anyone know if Baez has complied with the judge's order to supply discovery for Dr. Brock & Dr. Fairgrieve? I thought that the deadline was today, by noon.

TIA

I certainly understand what several are saying about HHJP's decisions being weighed so carefully in order to try to preclude appellate issues. But she would get an automatic appeal if she is given the death penalty. . . So there is some chance that will happen no matter how leniently HHJP rules.

I do wish, though, that he would stop his empty warnings as it diminishes his power base ~ in my eyes, anyway. It only highlights the concessions he's making when he declares beforehand that it (whatever offense de jour) will not be tolerated.

But this is my very first time in following a case so closely and I don't know what to expect. Are all death penalty cases handled like this or is this just an aberration because of the peculiar players and their inept representation? moo.

There is discussion about it on the Defense Witness List thread.

HTH!

I don't get it. Why is he waiting until this stage in the game to start depo-ing witnesses? He's had 2 years to get his act together. When it finally starts, his opening will be:

First of all, I don't know why we're here (from 12/10 hearing)

Then he'll say the state introduced a witness he had no idea about and would like a mistrial. Then we'll get to start all over again.

This is getting really frustrating.

Casey Anthony defense gets additional funding

Before being declared indigent and having the state pick up many costs associated with the defense, Anthony had private funding totaling about $275,000.

By late October, the defense had billed the state $38,672 and the JAC had paid out $18,405. At that time, Jeremiah Lyons Investigations had billed more than $11,120. Updated numbers were not immediately available Tuesday.

Casey Anthony was not present at Tuesday's hearing. Baez appeared by phone.

Perry held off on another defense motion to approve prior travel expenses of out-of-state experts.

Silence of the Lambs. Also, I am curious about this too - it keeps snowballing. More time = more "witnesses" = need more money, etc. It has to stop and I don't understand why Perry is letting them go on this fishing expedition.

I cannot even pretend to understand why Baez keeps asking for (and getting) more of the Florida taxpayers money for investigative purposes. I know he has to present a defense, but I just have a feeling that Baez and Mason will be flying by the seat of their pants come trial time.
