Actress Natasha Richardson UPDATE has passed away after skiing accident

I read an article in the Canadian Press, that said yes she was flown by private Jet to an undisclosed location, but New York City, would seem likely.

Here is to hopping that I am wrong and that the swelling could be reduced and maybe she is in an induced coma, so that the brain can heal.

Hoping for the sake of her kids that she is able to see them grow up and be their Mom.

I again hope that she is not brain dead, with the imminent death of Jade Goody, it is very sad for people to die the way they do.

The Guardian is reporting (26 minutes ago) that Natasha Richardson has left the hospital after being treated for a head injury.

I'm in New York City right now for some speeches my husband is doing for work, and I have the local news on (CBS 2 New York) and they are reporting that Natasha Richardson is being airlifted into an undisclosed hospital in New York City. They're saying she left Canada at about 12:30 this afternoon.

This is what my friend's 5 yo died of. I think one thing to remember is if one hits their head pretty good and there is no outward bump, take it seriously because there could be a subdural hematoma.

It is very cruel.

I am just hpoing and praying for her 2 boys and her husband that she recovers from this though the news in its many variations does not appear to bode well for her. I have always loved watching she and her husband. I just cant imagine something so tragic happening on what should have been such a lovely day of fun for she and her boys. I pray she will be ok.

I love her. So horribly sad. I heard it last night and was hoping for a good report today. If you haven't seen the movie Nell, get it. She's in it with Liam (LOVE him) and Jodie Foster. Those are also my beautiful NC mountains in the movie.

My prayers are with everyone close to her. Why does something like this happen to someone like that when so many celebrities play with drugs, alcohol and vehicles and just keep going. Not that I wish death on anyone, but you'd think people who live dangerously would be the ones who this happens to, not the Natasha's & Patrick Swayze's of the world.

My prayers are with her family. They think this is what happened to the comedian, Sam Kinison too! He was in a head on crash, his head hit the windshield but he got out of the car and was talking. He said " God, Look at my truck!" Then it was said he seemed as if he was talking to someone. He said "I don't want to die" and then he said "Okay, Okay, Okay". By the time he arrived at the hospital he was dead on arrival.

I hope Natasha is ok!

OMG. I saw the news report earlier today and it seemed that she just had a bad concussion. I am shocked now to read of her being brain dead and soon to be taken off of life support. What a tragedy. I always liked her as an actress. I first saw her in "Widow's Peak" - a great movie. And with her husband Liam Neeson they make such a beautiful couple.

I hope that these reports are somehow wrong and that she is going to pull through

I hope she is okay too, I've been checking in all day and reading the updates. For the life of me I'm having a hard time visualizing how she could have gotten a significant closed head injury while skiing. I have never been so I don't know what slopes are like.

This is said to happen sometimes when a trauma damages the area of the brain that controls speech and environment awareness, it is considered indicative of a severe brain injury. In some such cases some people may be lead to assume that a victim was "talking to God" just prior to passing away because the victim is seen having what appears to be a conversation with someone that no one else sees, but usually it's the injured brain generating distorted signals. A similar state of mind sometimes occurs during certain phases of dreaming when our brain is tricking us into having conversations with ourselves but believing we are talking to someone else.

I don't think that's what happened to Richardson, after the fall she was still making sense and the trauma was not that severe although it may have developed into brain swelling. Perhaps she had a pre-existing condition unknown to her that make her less resistant than the average healthy 45-year-old.

A thought that came to mind. Wouldn't someone in a NY hospital have already leaked that she was there? I'm thinking the silence is because she's been taken somewhere private for her family to be with her?

Unlike a lot of the celebrity couples, I have never heard anything negative about them. I hope she survives. They seem like very nice people.

I hope this is not true, but it very well could be. I think there is less red-tape involved in transporting a live person vs. a deceased person into the country.

I think if there had been red tape it would have been more over taking her out of Canada than entering the US. My guess is she was allowed to be transported outside Canada because (if that's the case) LE and a coroner are reasonably convinced no foul play is involved and the cause of death (if she dies) is obvious enough to forego a judicial autopsy, even though one will likely be conducted for medical purposes to determine her state of health at the time of the accident.

Learning to ski at 45 could be considered a risky activity. Not that I blame her for doing it but at our age (I'm the same age as she is) our bodies don't adapt as quickly to a new sport which may lead to falls that would normally be avoided by someone's who's 15 because they have quicker reflexes. From all accounts the fall wasn't serious, just a casual spill that did not involve a collision. Then the real mystery is why did this benign incident had such dramatic consequences on her? This a very rare occurrence, rare enough so that the regional media there would likely have mentioned it even if she had not been a celebrity, although no such worldwide media frenzy would have taken place, obviously.
