Now that she has seen or heard murderer OJ Simpson is getting another moment in the sun, she will imagine herself reprising her role in a few years. She firmly believes she will prevail on an appeal and get a new trial. No way is she resigned to her fate. She remains delusional.
If she truly wanted the dp, she would instruct her defense to not put up any witnesses or cross examine Dr. Hall today, letting the jury infer that she does concur the murder was cruel. Then when we get to the mitigation stage, she would instruct Jennifer and Nurmi that she does not wish to testify, rather to remain silent and furthermore she does not wish for them to call any witnesses. She would sit respectfully without drawing at her table while the family speaks and allow this process to go without drama the next couple of days.
I am guessing she will claim to have, after a visit from her mother, realized she would be hurting her family to die without a fight, say she maintains her innocence, after the weekend of reflection and prayer, does want to beg to be spared. I do think she will be unable to take responsibility for what she did, but she will beg for her life.
No one on the jury is believing she is Mormon or Christian in any manner, as most religions preach that an unforgivable, or nearly unforgivable sin is to take one's own life ( or in this situation to say that she wants it done for her, as that is the ultimate freedom ). No one believes she had any religious conversion, whatsoever. Someone was mentioning that she needs a chance to repent. She had that chance when she went to her Bishop. Guess what? She lied to his face, the same way she did the police and the jury. She is not remotely sorry, nor will she ever be.
Seeing OJ possibly getting a do over will make her lick her lips like the cat that got the canary.
Of course she will not ask for this proceeding to be waived, accept the death penalty on the record, and then waive all rights to the normal appeals as they come up in time. She will fight this and drag it out and try to remain in the news. She fancies herself quite the celebrity. The mitigation specialist may as well save all of her evening wear for the next case. Jodi's case is just about done. The jury verdict allows us to infer they are quite done with her and her lies. Indeed.
