I don't understand how it takes away the ability to repent? If a person is truly sorry it is a conversation that is had between the G*d and themselves as they try to repent.

That being said, how many have said they have repented but really are just trying to save themselves. Its something that is only known to be truthful between G*d and the person. None of us know what is in a person's heart truly.

I am not trying to disagree, just am not understanding why it takes away the ability to repent?

right and Jodi is such a liar even if she SAYS she's repenting can we actually BELIEVE her? I would never believe her about anything. Not after all the lies she's spewed. Would you put it past her to SAY she's sorry even though she is not?

Juan Martinez making the sky blue again http://t.co/jzefBsLMPe
http://youtu.be/Sq8m15-aXBU (closing arguments)

Now that she has seen or heard murderer OJ Simpson is getting another moment in the sun, she will imagine herself reprising her role in a few years. She firmly believes she will prevail on an appeal and get a new trial. No way is she resigned to her fate. She remains delusional.

If she truly wanted the dp, she would instruct her defense to not put up any witnesses or cross examine Dr. Hall today, letting the jury infer that she does concur the murder was cruel. Then when we get to the mitigation stage, she would instruct Jennifer and Nurmi that she does not wish to testify, rather to remain silent and furthermore she does not wish for them to call any witnesses. She would sit respectfully without drawing at her table while the family speaks and allow this process to go without drama the next couple of days.

I am guessing she will claim to have, after a visit from her mother, realized she would be hurting her family to die without a fight, say she maintains her innocence, after the weekend of reflection and prayer, does want to beg to be spared. I do think she will be unable to take responsibility for what she did, but she will beg for her life.

No one on the jury is believing she is Mormon or Christian in any manner, as most religions preach that an unforgivable, or nearly unforgivable sin is to take one's own life ( or in this situation to say that she wants it done for her, as that is the ultimate freedom ). No one believes she had any religious conversion, whatsoever. Someone was mentioning that she needs a chance to repent. She had that chance when she went to her Bishop. Guess what? She lied to his face, the same way she did the police and the jury. She is not remotely sorry, nor will she ever be.

Seeing OJ possibly getting a do over will make her lick her lips like the cat that got the canary.

Of course she will not ask for this proceeding to be waived, accept the death penalty on the record, and then waive all rights to the normal appeals as they come up in time. She will fight this and drag it out and try to remain in the news. She fancies herself quite the celebrity. The mitigation specialist may as well save all of her evening wear for the next case. Jodi's case is just about done. The jury verdict allows us to infer they are quite done with her and her lies. Indeed.

Is the death penalty worse than LWOP? (Is it obvious I've been thinking about the death penalty a lot lately? Lol. In the Netherlands the highest sentence for first degree murder is 30 years.) LWOP: spending 40-45 years in prison seems like a hard sentence. The more I think about it, the more appeal Jodi Arias growing old in prison holds appeal to me. She can be the queen Bee for a while, after that she's just an old killer serving out a life sentence.

How will JA handle it (AS IF we care?)? Will she smirk or do the fake nose-drip dance again? ]

I think she will be seething with nearly uncontrollable rage. She was able to ignore Dr DeMarte but to have people one after another after another telling her to her face what a horrible excuse for a human being she is ...not sure she will be able to handle it. Could make for an interesting day in court. We could be in for some serious :drama:. :moo:

I was watching a bit of the NV court proceedings yesterday while the one attorney was on the stand. The camera was on OJ and he had this stupid look on his face where he tries to look incredulous. His head tilted just slightly, eyes big and his forehead with no lines on it. Reminds me so much like ckja.

I watched some too yesterday. He really has got his expressions up to a pure art form. I particulary love his incredulous head shake and " Can you believe how these people LIE. Sad, just sad" expression. Lol, OJ, LOL.

I can just see that old fool practicing his "appropriate reactions" in his cell each night.

The problem with this scenario is the defense will argue it is understandable that she was depressed and wanting death after being found guilty of 1st degree. Just a thought and not my person view or feelings!

I hadn't thought of that. I would agree combined with the delay of court for whatever reason and the mystery hearing that happened last week...it could go down exactly as you said.

And its not my personal view either, but you bring up a very very good point.

I think it means that every juror has responded affirmatively to the question of whether, under appropriate circumstances, they could sentence a defendant to death. If they could never envision doing that, such a potential juror would be excused.

HTH

Prior to being selected as a juror for a capital murder case potential juror is asked a series of questions regarding their views on the DP.

Do they oppose the DP? Can they vote for DP is the facts are proven, can they overcome their opposition of DP if they come to a verdict of murder ....then they become death penalty qualified.

Lawyers for both sides can question the potential juror extensively regarding their DP view before accepting them or rejecting them.

Thanks to you both for the helpful answers re 'Death Penalty Qualified' Jurors.

Thanks to whoever it was that posted the article about how Adriano's jury felt about the DP deliberation process. I feel sorry for that jury and for this jury too. Deciding life or death for another person, if you are not a coldblooded murderer, must be one if the most difficult experiences a person can go through.

Facing having to make that decision, it must help to have such a clear cut case as that CMJA. The aggravator phase will be awful to listen to, but will further solidify for the jury how horribly cruel Travis' death was.

I trust that they know JA actively chose to make it as painful as possible. As the DT so helpfully pointed out, she brought a gun to shoot him. She could have shot him right away or in his sleep, or at least when his back was turned. Instead, she chose to stab him, while he was looking at her, and shot him only after he was dead, obviously because her hatred for him hadn't died when he did.

I trust that they did not "bond" with her either. Beyond the savagery she is obviously capable of, by their guilty verdict and their very emphatic YESes during the roll call afterwards, they must have agreed with JM's so accurate portrayal of her as a person barely deserving to be called even that.

Her mother can get up there and sob, and maybe an art teacher will testify about the inmate's tracing ability in 9th grade. On the other side will be all the fscts, a guilty verdict, a radically unlikable abd unremorseful inmate, and the heartbreaking stories of a wonderful and well loved man, told to the jury by the family whose dignity and grief they have witnessed 1st hand for 4 momths.

Toss in the statistic of how often AZ juries give the DP, even to women, and what is left , IMO, is the near certainty that she will get the DP.

The reason I want DP for Jodi is two fold. She took a life. I never want her to have a chance to form a friendship, speak to anyone other than her keepers. Alone. Nobody to manipulate. And the thought of death looming over her head for years. Most importantly the Family wants it. Today is my golf day and we always stay for dinner. Will have to skip out of here by 3. Thanks in advance to all the posters who will allow me to catch up later tonight.

Lets say she does get the death penalty. How many years do you all think would actually pass before she actually gets the needle? I mean I'm 40 years old and guessing that I won't be around to see it.

jmo, but I have heard via the news that on average, its 12 yrs before they are put to death..so they sit on dr for about 12 yrs...again, just what I heard on the news, jmo I will be 60 if and when she gets the needle...

When and if Jodi takes the stand, I hope she's not on the stand for 18 days blaming Travis and how abused she was.

Saul murdered christians for sport. It took being blinded for him to repent and become Paul. It took the pheroah 10 plagues to release the Jews, it took the death of his son for David to repent. My point being it isn't up to me or anyone but God to decide when is too late. I don't expect it to be a popular opinion. It is my humble opinion and I stand by it.

Yea, I wonder if she will be given her pad and little pencil to scribble with when the family gives their statements. Remember how she scribbled and barely looked up while DeMarte diagnosed her?

The defense will look pathetic trying to dispute the facts of Travis Alexander's murder and the extreme cruelty he was forced to endure at the hands of convicted inmate Jodi Arias.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Alexander family, friends and supporters - this difficult phase is a necessary link in the chain of Justice for Travis. Godspeed.

Does anyone here think that JA has told lies so often that she actually believes them herself or that she's pretty good at remembering which lies she told to who? Or maybe she just makes up chit on the fly to whoever whenever and hopefully it works out for her?

I don't think she believes her lies. She just thinks she's smarter than everyone else and can tap dance her way out of an situation. She just thinks she's that good.

What time is court SUPPOSED to begin today? Sorry for asking - but have horrific cold and so foggy can hardly type....

ITA She will speak because she is Jodi. Jodi loves to hear the sound oc her own lies

And yet she gets PO'ed because we find her lacking in all areas that count. Jodi should ixnay on the alkingtay because at least she is tolerable when she is quiet,
