Know this wasn't directed at me as the threads have moved so fast, I don't think I've even commented since Thread 2 or 3, but figured I would respond anyway, since your comment (I think) can lead to an interesting discussion.

I'm judgemental of both. However, he's been a long time criminal. Once you've admitted to murder, what else is there that you can do that would shock or surprise people or cause more judgement? To me, he's less interesting to ponder and discuss (or judge) He's simply a bad guy still doing bad guy things.

Vicky, however, seemed to be a good employee, a law abiding citizen, responsible, etc Things seemed to suddenly and rapidly change for her, and at an age and time in her life when it's not usually common to change so drastically and in such a bad way. So, I find her more interesting in terms of the hows and whys.

The judgemental part (for me) comes from a place of her being a bit like a wolf in sheep's clothing; Because of her job, it's almost a feeling of betrayal to society. She is supposed to help keep citizens protected and safe from "the bad guys" instead, she did the opposite and purposely let a dangerous criminal loose. He's been a wolf in wolfs clothing for a long time, so no one expects good, law abiding behavior from him. That's why I judge her more than him; because I expected better from someone like her than I do from someone like him.
It’s really bizarre. I place equal blame.

Agree with @thesaint on his or her legally sophisticated point. No one wins if Alabama tries to legally pursue not paying - and if a couple grand a month that would otherwise have gone to nonexistent kids goes instead to a mother who is in utter devastation and deep shame, I consider that to be some of the most noble money Alabama pays. I would feel no pride as an American if this woman suffers further now. Had VW lived it would have been hundreds of thousands in state-paid Medicare bills for a vegetative prisoner. Let’s all call it a benevolent deal and hope her mom can live in some peace.
In most pension systems—and I would not be surprised if Alabama is an outlier—any pension benefits are not earned until 12:01 a.m on the day following the last day of employment. (And don’t you know, there have been cases of folks expiring at 11ish during/after their retirement party). As I understand it, April 29, the date of the jail break, was her last day of employment (and the last day VW would have keys to the castle) before retirement and qualifying for pension benefits. Her actions that afternoon, however, would likely result in termination, disqualifying VW from any pension benefits, entitled only to previous payroll deduction contributions made to the fund, plus interest.

I've been thinking along those lines as well. Maybe the escape was all about getting married. You never know.

Getting the marriage license might be a bit tricky, although maybe with COVID she was able to submit the paperwork online ahead of time. It costs 65 dollars for out-of-state couples to get a marriage license in Indiana and you have to apply for the license in the same county where the "marriage will be solemnized", i.e., the ceremony performed.

Indiana no longer requires the ceremony have a witness. You only need the couple and a minister, Justice of the Peace, judge, mayor or court clerk. You can get a minister or justice of the peace to marry you anywhere. So if they had a license they could have called a Justice of the Peace or minister to their hotel room and gotten hitched there.

Didn't someone say they in an earlier thread they thought they saw in the videos a ring on CW's hand that wasn't there previously.

Same here. I don’t know why either.
Totally normal and natural reaction. To inquire about and seek closure, with the hope of getting it. Why? Why exactly? A deep desire for life to make SENSE. This has fueled ideology for thousands of years and is a big concept in political science and international relations. It’s an analogy of an entirely different scale, but look at Russia and Ukraine. Don’t we want Putin to explain himself? Without artifice, rationally, logically? Aren’t we craving a story that makes sense?
When the person dies, the possibility of closure usually dies with them. Def true in this case.

I’m interested in knowing if the hotel room has been searched/sealed . A lot of information I think will be found, such as any money, other weapons, drugs, plans .
There's no way it wouldn't have been secured until they obtained a warrant (which wouldn't be at all difficult). I'm super interested to learn what those searches uncover (car and hotel). I imagine we'll hear details during tomorrow's press conference.

Or him PROMISING they would get married.

I thought his comment about "my wife" showed how manipulative he is.

Not only did he specify that he didn't shoot her, but he was telegraphing to anyone (woman or women) in the future that might want to be special pen pals with a convicted felon that he was going to be bereaved, capable of "marriage", all the kinds of pretty words that got Vicky to desert her future to spring him and run off with him.

He was setting himself up for a future opportunity for some kind of gain, any kind of gain back in prison where he knew he was going. He's going to try to claim the rest of the cash that's around, either in the motel or stashed somewhere only he now knows. Cash can be very useful in prison. He knows that very well.

I find it repulsive. He's a manipulator and always will be.

Discovery documents as follows, my best guess: a mess of lingerie, sweaty men’s clothes, personal hygiene items (toothpaste spilling onto counter), empty snack food bags, a vibrator or two, a mostly unused bag of socks, contents of a wallet but no wallet itself, melted ice bucket If this motel stocked them, fast food receipts, empty alcohol bottles on nightstand and in trash and surprising in mix (like a Woodford, a six pack of Bud and a bottle of $15 white wine), a hairbrush, makeup bag, few days’ worth of men’s Kohl’s clothes mostly tags still attached, sweatshirts, mom jeans, mostly new Axe deodorant, evidence of heavy shower usage, sheets that no one wants to touch absent of nitrite gloves and industrial garbage bags, and one additional pair of prudent lady walking shoes in size 7. I think the cash was mostly still with them in the car at the end along with the guns. Let’s see how I do.

would likely result in termination
Terminating a union employee, especially a public union employee, is not like firing a cashier at McDonald's. Your boss doesn't just say "you're fired" to a public union employee and that's the end of it. It's a process, with the terminated employee having rights to a hearing, to appeal the decision, arbitration and ultimately they can take it to court to try to get their benefits or even their job restored.

Sounds like VW might have used sick leave or PTO or was otherwise excused from her job the afternoon of the escape. She made some sort of excuse about having a medical appointment(?) herself after she dropped CW off at the courthouse, iirc.

Jon Burge was a Chicago cop who was fired from the police force, and then prosecuted and convicted of torturing likely 100's of arrestees in his career to elicit false confessions, including holding loaded guns to their head and applying electric shocks to their body. Burge collected his $4,000+ a month police officer's pension every month until he died--never missed a single monthly pension check--including during the 5 years he spent in prison for his felony convictions.
