A new search Sunday for two missing girls is offering new hope to their families who are desperately seeking answers in their disappearances. Police are expected to search an area in Orange County familiar to a man tied to both cases.

Murphy still does not believe Jesse Matthew, the man suspected of abducting University of Virginia student Hannah Graham was part of her niece's disappearance.

Police give statement on Alexis Murphy, Samantha Clarke searches

BARBOURSVILLE, Va. - Police held a news conference on Sunday morning about missing teens Alexis Murphy and Samantha Clarke.

Chief James Fenwick of the Town of Orange Police Department says police are going to be searching an area that they have searched before. It's an area Randy Taylor would have been familiar with and would have had access to.

Investigators said nature worked against them the last time they searched this area. Now they hope to use aircraft similar to what was used in the Hannah Graham search.

I am hopeful there will be a transcript of this mornings press conference available so that I can later add the link. This is just a summary to the best of my recollection this am:
Began by explaining the nature of the conference and that he didn't have any announcements but would field questions from the media. He went on to explain that whenever the are searching for AM it also includes BS (maybe he clarified this because a family member of Alexis stated they found out they were searching today through the media...that part is me surmising..IMO).
He reiterated they have always been searching but they have reason to believe RAT knew this area and was familiar with it (and has been searched before).
He stated they had a "tremendous lead" (which I immediately took note of) but when a reporter asked about the lead- he downgraded the statement he made earlier and stated he was not at liberty to discuss.

Just a brief synopsis and hopefully a transcript will follow.

Chief Fenwick may also be getting some criticism from the public, and maybe even the families, since Alexis Murphy and Samantha Clarke have both been missing for 4 years. It must be a difficult place to be when you consider that HG was found 95% more swiftly. I really hope they find Alexis and her family can have a proper burial for their daughter too.

FBI, VSP AND VDEM HELP SEARCH FOR Alexis Murphy and Samantha Clarke. Posted 11/16/14
From the above link:
"While, Alexis' aunt, Trina Murphy, came out to meet the searchers and show her support."

'"This can happen to anyone at any time. Nobody is immune to it and the fact that we have to look for two beautiful young women on the same piece of property is heartbreaking," Murphy said.'

You can't help but appreciate this woman.

Thank you OkieGranny. It's good to hear about the tremendous lead and I hope it pans out. It would be wonderful if these two families could have their girls back and charges made for Samantha Clarke's abduction/possibly murder. It still sounds as though RT is their suspect. It would be good to hear results soon on DNA from Alexis' car matched against JM. I personally doubt there will be a match because I think they've got the right one in prison now serving two life sentences. JMO
