If he buys a phone, there is a record not only at the telco but also on his credit card, hence QPS can analyse the calls made. But if he borrows a phone, deletes all recent call logs after his calls, then there is no visible evidence of the calls he made. IMO.

Yes, but I like to try to come up with a possible 'innocent explanation' for things too - just to keep myself from jumping to conclusions - but this one has me stumped. Anyone have any ideas what might be a 'possible' innocent reason for borrowing the phone instead of buying one?

My first thought is as CC says, you have to provide ID for a phone with a SIM.

If that's not the case, second thought is that he was pretty short of $$. $1mill in debt.

Third thought - post paid mobiles usually need a credit check before you get it unless you're an existing customer. His credit card was allegedly maxed out. But he could have bought a pre-paid, still need ID but no credit check. JMO

He had to give his last Dollar as retainer to his lawyer :floorlaugh:

IMO to conduct 'business as usual' on both the business and personal front.
The advantage could be that his calls would not be detected.

I feel very uneasy about it. A lot of GBC's behaviours after ABC went missing that have been discussed on here that seemed strange to other websleuthers, didn't seem all that strange to me - but borrowing a phone instead of buying one, just seems very very weird! IMO.

I thought I'd add a little info about BF

The only explanation that I can come up with is that he is friends with whoever kept BF's phones. Like a PA as previously suggested. He may have been with him/HER and innocently said that police had confiscated his phone and he or SHE may have offered the phone. The weird thing would be if he ASKED to borrow the phone. He must feel very comfortable with this person. I am hinting that perhaps this person is one of the 3 affairs?
I wonder where this phone is now and if records can be obtained.
Such another sly move from GBC in my opinion. My skin crawls thinking about his sliminess.

Why would Bf have numerous phones that he does not know about is another question!

All my own opinion...

It had been more than a week since he had emailed his lover from a fake email account, reaffirming his love and reiterating a promise. -

Police say Ms McHugh had told them he called her from pay phones and emailed her as Bruce Overland. He needed to "lay low" he said, but he would be in touch. -

Be interesting to know where the pay phones were he called TM from.

Also don't forget he was begging BF for money at one stage and his credit cards were likely maxed out so he probably wasn't able to go out and buy a phone either.

Good Point! Even if the secretary wasn't one of the 3 at this time- it doesn't discount the probability that GBC was 'grooming' her for future plans (or had in the past)-it was his mo really- keep up the charm to the ladies- a secretary to a politician would hold many interesting facts that an intimate relationship may give GBC access to.

I was also intrigued by the allegation that NBC had asked what the government could do for his son. I hadn't read that before. What a gall!

The obvious one for me is that, if BF offered GBC a place to stay, he would also likely have offered a phone also, so that GBC could have a means of communication after those mean police took his phone. However, we are told that BF didn't know about the phone, so it is all a bit strange. MOO

I personally don't think that money was so tight GBC would't have been able to just buy another phone. IMO.
In fact, the whole money motive thing seems extremely improbable to me. IMO.
Money is relative - and although I understand that $1m or even $58k might seem a lot of money to some people, to others it is not. When you consider the probable turnover of an established Real Estate Agency in Brisbane's western suburbs, $58k seems an insignificant sum. And in comparison to that, the cost of a phone is chickenfeed. IMO.

Thank you. :) Perhaps BF might have upgraded his phone and not thrown the old one out. I put my old ones in a drawer when I upgrade - and I have given some to people when they have broken/lost their phone. Maybe it's not quite as suspicious as it first seemed. :)

i'm pretty sure it was the pay phone just down from his office. IMO.

Liadan, this could probably be the case. It would seem to 'fit' his personal approach as we have come to know it. When Allison disappeared, he was possibly perceived as a poor victim of this unthinkable tragedy; it is possible that he approached associates with the 'poor little me' appeal, then pleaded for their help as he needed a phone to conduct 'business as usual'. Feeling sorry for him, not suspecting him, someone helped him with a phone. It's possible that others may have been caught up giving him similar assistance. My opinion only.

I agree re money not being that tight that he couldn't buy a phone. Allison was obviously able to pay at the hairdresser that night?

As a politician, BF needs to be very careful about how what he 'knew' or 'didn't know' looks like to the public. He has claimed lack of knowledge and blamed his office for sloppy administration before.

"Queensland Housing and Public Works Minister Bruce Flegg has fallen on his sword, resigning from the cabinet and taking responsibility for “sloppy administration” within his office.

For sure - that is great that these house prices are excellent and hopefully GBC could take advantage of the perky market but I would imagine there was quite a lot of overhead with the new LARGE premises, cars, admin staff, advertising and signage, franchise fees, paying for the conferences and award celebrations <modsnip>
But weren't Allison and GBC trying to find out if they could reduce their premiums for their life insurance policies? So they were most likely having difficulty making these payments.

Thanks Redlightthroughpaper. http://au.news.yahoo.com/video/queen...den-clay-case/
This MSM information is reported by Geoff Breusch. IMO the video is well worth watching. Ah, WOW! This video report states:

"... after Allison Baden-Clay disappeared, Gerard Baden-Clay was lent a phone by Bruce Flegg - without the then Minister's knowledge.

As a politician, BF needs to be very careful about how what he 'knew' or 'didn't know' looks like to the public. He has claimed lack of knowledge and blamed his office for sloppy administration before.

http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/quee...215-2bgji.html Herein we find some explanations published in MSM:
In the Affidavit, Mr Flegg, the state Member for Moggill, said he had known Mr Baden-Clay for eight years ..."I consider him a friend".
He said that on the night Mrs Baden-Clay was reported missing: "I was aware ... that Mr Baden-Clay could not stay at his house. I called him and offered for him to stay at a self-contained private room at my residence if he needed".
Mr Flegg said: "I do remember that he called me a couple of days ago and asked me about the media report about the Kenmore roundabout and whether there is a camera there". Mr Flegg said since Allison's disappearance, he had not given Gerard any money, nor a telephone, car or anything else to help him further than offering his support. Mr Flegg’s Affidavit was submitted to the Court during Mr Baden-Clay’s second bail application.

Isn't there a contradiction there?
