Who's paying her?
I don't know anything more about Professor Lyon than what has been posted here, but she's GOT to be easier to take than LKB. I wonder how likely it is that Professor Lyon is coming on board the defense team pro bono, for free?
snipped: Lyon says:
<<"They are complicated. They care about other people. Theyve been hurt">>
So this is her opinion of cold blooded murderers? This lawyer lives in a fantasy world that she has construed to imploy her ideals on the world..What a crock!! I'd love to introduce her to a few with some files for her to read....better yet...have them spend some time at home with her...LOL
We should take complicated caring people who kill others "off the street" permanently. Better yet...get rid of them permanently! I call it "Giving Back"
She's been preaching to the choir for long time there in Cook County. I am surprised her resume doens't list ACLU on it.

Now I am committing a cardinal sin here by not nailing down all of my research before I reply...however...
Sitting here in Cook County, I had to do a brief check. Illinois has been under moratorium since Jan 2000. Since the reinstatement of the DP in '72, the first person put to death in Illinois was Gacy, and that was 94. And only a handful in the mid 90's. (Many exonerations, it must be noted). If she did a great deal of work here, when, and particularly, how recently was it?
Ok, enough of my ingnorance! thanks to all for the info.
I look for the defense to add at least one more attorney to the mix before this is over. I fully expect that, before the trial begins, they will employ an appellate consultant. Do you know who the appellate consultant was for the OJ trial? Alan Dershowitz ... the same Alan Dershowitz that is reportedly writing the forward to A. Lyon's book.

Oh I think she will be stopping Baez in his tracks. I'm sure she already told Baez before she even signed on what she expects from him..She has a very impressive record and I don't think Baez will be dictating to her. I think Baez will only be kept on to do coffee run's for her.
OHW - Thanks for the clarification/information! It would be interesting to note whether she's tried any dp cases here during the moratorium. As for her fervid defense of Ryan (both philosophically and in the court room), she is a social activist with a cause - I'd fully expect her full support for the dp moratorium (hey, I'm typically pro DP but it did need to be done here), as for the trial - that was a very, very weird trial. Guilty? Yes. Guilty on all 4 brazzillion counts that included seemingly every bit of legal minutiae that could be scrounged? Probably not, but the jury just pushed the big button and figured guilty of one, guilty of all.
Hope they feel the same way about the next one! (ooohh, did I say that outloud)?
Yes, this brings a bit of sophistication to the defense team, but so what? Her expertise will be used only in avoiding the death penalty, not in determining Casey's eventual guilt or innocence.
