I am new here, started looking closely at this trial while waiting at the vet (VSH) which is a long block from the Cooper's former house. Am an old computer geek, sometimes expert witness/researcher. Still solidly on the fence, expect a really interesting week of testimony. Started out thinking BC probably would be proved guilty based on hearing local news reports, was curious about smoking gun evidence found by FBI computer expert.

Now realize that he wasn't FBI, just Durham police det. with dual badge (deputy US Marshal). Wish I could have seen CC testify, but from limited reporting it seems too clever by half, things others have noted wrt the centering of the ZIP and the inability to reproduce the search now. Using the "FBI" with its "protected methods" is becoming a convenient ploy nationwide to avoid having to follow all the normal procedures regarding defendant rights. "Can't tell you what we did because then the terrorists and pornographers would find out. Sorry about your rights."

There are two separate issues with the Google search that Friday. The search itself using 27518 and the zooming down to that particular area. Not clear from the reports if the search was directly from the Google Maps screen or triggered by some other site -- maybe from a quick check of a weather site which in turn displayed radar data using Google maps (e.g. wunderground.com), typical thing to do before leaving for lunch on a day with showers in the area. The zooming claims contradict themselves so will just have to see how that plays out.

BTW all the geeks I know could fake the phone call without using anything more complicated that a computer with a modem, or their All-in-1 printer with a fax option. Many of us could do it with absolutely no trail left behind.

Based on testimony, this definitely was not an overlay from a weather site.
He panned over to the Fielding Drive area and then zoomed in.
Not sure how you explain that? Good luck Kurtz.

So are you suggesting that the defense shouldn't have the right to present a defense? If the jury is pissed, they ought to be pissed at the prosecution for presenting way too many witnesses that added nothing more than Brad's a bad husband and had an affair. I think we got the picture after about the 15th witness testifying to that.

I am in total agreement the states case has been disjointed and far too long.
We knew they would save the best for last.....they did and it sounds like the jury is clearly off the fence and wants to go home. 2 weeks of Kurtz trying to weasel his client out of this will be painful for them, i'm sure.

I think (despite the other opinions I have seen) that the only mistake Gessner has made with regards to most of this is with Kurtz. He started in on him day 3 and has made it pretty clear that he is biased against him. (Hence Trenkle's involvement)

The first time he was attempting to illicit information re: Pearson from Dismukes I thought Gessner was going to punch him. It was inappropriate by both parties and has set the tone for some odd calls later on.

Trenkle's "involvement" is because he is in the "Office of the Capital Defender" -- it's his job. He was appointed to this case -- and he seems to have good credentials. A very likable guy, to me.

This is from
www.aoc.state.nc.us/www/public/aoc/pr/trenkle.htm

Durham - A staff attorney with the Office of the Capital Defender is the new interim head of that office effective July 1. Robert C. Trenkle was appointed on June 1, by Tye Hunter, Director of Indigent Defense Services (IDS).

As capital defender, Mr. Trenkle will be in charge of administering the statewide representation of indigent defendants charged with first-degree murder. His duties will include the appointment of counsel in all first-degree murder cases in all the judicial districts and the appointment of experts to those cases.

Mr. Trenkle has been handling capital cases at the trial level, representing capital
defendants in North Carolina and in Florida. He has previously been an
assistant public defender in the 15B Judicial District and for the State of
Florida. He was in the private practice of law, as well as a faculty member of the
University of Florida College of Law.

Welcome, and looking forward to hearing your impressions.

I agree that the Prosecutions case has been too long, but they were going point by point. Remember also that Kurtz takes a long time to question witnesses himself.

This jury has needed springs on it's rear end with all of the bouncing up and down for matters to be discussed outside the hearing of the jury. I do feel sorry for them in that regard.

I am convinced that Brad Cooper murdered Nancy. I am a little tired of some thinking that people who feel Brad is guilty are willing to convict without a fair trial. We are not on a jury here, and do not have to behave as if we are.

I am looking forward to seeing just what Kurtz presents in the defense case. I don't think it is about Brad Cooper anymore. It is about winning at all costs, IMO. This is how I have come to see it.

I wonder if there will be court today.

I think there is absolutely NO chance that he picked the body dump site using that google search. There simply wasn't enough time (41 seconds) to do it. And they didn't show him ever going back to it. I think that if the google search is valid (ie, it happened on the 11th at that time), and there is nothing as of now to show it wasn't, then he did it to try and remember the name of the street or location because he had been there before either jogging or biking. That's the only explanation that seems logical to me.
HI, and glad you and family are ok after the storm. :)

Do you think it's possible Brad checked out the Fielding site after a google search<before returning to work Friday after the lunch meeting>? The mica evidence on the shoes LE DID recover <to me> puts him at the body location site at some point.

It makes sense that Brad did the google search, THEN went to visually inspect where he planned to dump Nancy.

MOO and stuff.

BBM...Bravo to all you said, especially the bolded portion. :woohoo:

This IS a discussion forum, not a jury. I've served on three juries and followed the judge's instructions in each case. HOWEVER, in this medium, we are entitled to our opinions and the right to express them.

'nough said! :seeya:

You get that simply because they asked if this would be done by May? They asked because they committed to a 6-8 week process that was supposed to be done by May and some have committments in May that would be affected by the process. That doesn't mean they are clearly off the fence.

I've been a trial watcher for 10 plus years now....and I can tell you one thing.....

It's NOT a good thing for a jury to send out notes asking "how much longer?".
It's a clear sign of impatience,IMO. And to do it BEFORE defense begins their presentation?
Sometimes 2 plus 2 DOES equal 4.

But didn't the Lowes video show he was wearing sandals Friday morning?
I still wonder why they chose those Nike shoes to test for mica?

This is reasonable. I'm trying to remember if they had the signs up on Fielding telling that it was under development. I kind of recall they did. As a cyclist, I knew it was a dead end street. So, we always went Cary Parkway or Lilly Atkins to Holly Springs from Lochmere, then to Penny or Ten Ten. Sometimes North on Holly Springs to Campbell that links to Tryon. I don't think he'd run there b/c running on Holly Springs would be asking for a busted ankle. But surely he biked by it countless times.

I would think like other obsessives he had done an aerial photo recon multiple times in the past to scout routes to ride. It strikes me he checked out Fielding again just to confirm mentally how it was laid out.

Welcome to you, UNC70!! There's always room for one more!!:welcome:

First, let me say I am in the "Brad Did It Bunch" ...) but what I am saying below isn't meant to foster the BDI argument for/against.

It's just an observation -- partly from having worked in a financial institution (IT system support/development) for 30+ years and having seen those institutions be greatly affected in nearly all areas by Homeland Security, etc. We had to totally re-work new account and transactional processing, customer service, etc., etc. ...

I bolded a couple of sentences above that may seem off topic but regretfully is is not. All the gov't has to say is "terrorist" or "Patriot Act" or "OFAC" and the whole scene and climate changes. It has eroded individual rights and may not be constitutionally sound, but it works. And this is a case in point.

But didn't the Lowes video show he was wearing sandals Friday morning?

I think he checked out the site while Nancy and the girls were on vacation, and then Friday gave him the opportunity he was looking for.

Welcome UNC70. Hope you will enjoy the company here!

IIRC, the Nikes had dirt embedded in the heel part, like they had been cleaned off? Maybe he had them in his trunk. Hellifino, but since the mica samples matched, to me, there has to be a connection somewhere? I would really like to know what time he swiped his card to get back into Cisco after lunch Friday.

Who here has said there should be a conviction without a fair trial?
