Yes.

I am appalled by this
How did ABC get witness statements?

I expect these leaks could present a problem if and when this goes to trial

They could only have come from one place, inside the police dept.

Or a third party who got it from inside the PD and passed it on to ABC. But the original leak can only be from one place.

GG facing a range of possible charges in Aruba

At the end of the 60 days, prosecutors can ask the judge to extend the detention further or they can bring him to trial. Solicitor General Taco Stein said they are considering a range of possible charges, including murder, manslaughter, accidental death and insurance fraud.

Prosecutors have not disclosed any evidence against him but have said he gave inconsistent accounts about the 35-year-old woman's disappearance.

well... you may be right
Aruba does not have a jury system so its not like it would be tainted

The media really does not care about justice
Its all about ratings

And as we have seen over and over, they change the story as they go along
I no longer know what to believe

The media is only as good as their sources. Get to the source, Obviously whoever is leaking doesn't care about justice because they know what they're doing is against the law in Aruba.

Who is changing stories? the media? They report what they're told, unless they're sitting inside a hotel room making it all up, the stories are changing by the ones feeding them the information.

Question: Say he's found quilty and gets 15 years in Aruba. Does the US have any jurisdiction to bring our own charges against him? (FBI involved ?--federal jurisdiction, also, civil suit by parents possibly--though I'm not sure he has assets...?)

If he violated US law, then yes. They can have him indicted here and wait for him to finish his sentence there, have him extradited and prosecute him all over again here. Kind of like what they say may happen with van der Sloot.

I'm going to have to agree. Doesn't look like they do jury trials. Looks like judge decides your fate and then you have the right to appeal ... to another judge.

I think it was the poster Otto who said a couple pages back in the thread that once GG comes back to U.S. soil, he can be charged as well. Let's hope so, as Aruba rarely gives a life sentence and your estimate of 15 years may even be high. It looks to me from a brief look at below document, that the sentence for homicide is usually around 5 years.

There was the case of the husband who killed his wife while they were snorkeling in Australia, iirc they were from Alabama, but he was charged here in the US because LE said that his plot to kill her began in the US.

If GG's insurance fraud began at home, which obviously it did,a nd it shows pre meditation, then that gives the US jurisdiction as well?

The stories reported change
I never said they made anything up in a hotel room

and yes, the source is feeding them the information
Perhaps it should be verified before reported

Is it not strange that once again ABC seems to be involved in a crime case? :waitasec:

I must say I'm not real pleased with ABC's reporting because they make everything into some kind of mystery "like the bruises before she left for the trip. Well she didn't tell anyone how she got them so it's really useless info.

They're leaking daily and today report on the dress as her dress. Her who? We don't even know if it was the dress Robyn was last seen in.

I don't like assuming and it's like ABC is teasing us along.

Yes...

(additional periods added because you can't post a message with only 4 characters, apparently. Reminds me of a quote by the late George Bernard Shaw.... "I apologize for the long letter, I didn't have time to write a short one.")

Just on HLN GG's DT is going to appeal 60 day hold over.

Still reading Thread #3, but before I forget - wanted to address NJGuy re his post:

I agree, this is not the right forum and time to discuss Joran/Aruba etc...but I would be happy to discuss it at another time or on another forum topic page/forum

I'd also be interested in hearing What you know!! LOL! Here's the appropriate forum that you can post your stuff to!!

Joran Van der Sloot ALL UPDATES#18 - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

Hope to "see" you post there soon!!

Have been away for a few days and am seeing " now "about the dress and towels? I just don't know what to believe as truth or just rumors. I see that the talking heads are still saying GG tried to cash in the insurance policy. When what I read from early on was he wanted to know if it paid out for the search effort. At this time I am not sure what will come out unless or until her body surfaces or she comes forward. Not saying I think she's alive, but without a body we really don't know. I don't know what to think of RF.

Every day there has been some new info added to shore up GG's guilt.......but, He has only been held for an additional 60 days on appeal. So if any of this 'New" info is true, they still have not been able to "charge him".
IMO, that says to me they need these 60 days to find the kind of evidence that will make ANY of these charges, Mr. Stein wants to make, stick .

I am gonna go with the assumption that none of these NEW witness accounts , insurance fraud or security videos mean anything important at this point in time, because GG has still not been "charged".

:twocents:
After 30 days wouldn't they have obtained SOME kind of evidence a crime was committed? All of the items taken from his house should have turned up something, even the insurance fraud angel seems to be a problem.
The towels on the beach and dress can only HELP GG establish they were at the beach for the snorkeling....and the bruises? they could have come from anywhere even RF.

Seems we really can't count on anything comming out of Aruba or the media, until GG is officially charged. The evidence they have then will be the truth.:twocents:

bbm

This will especially be true if he committed insurance fraud (e.g., forged her name, etc) on any insurance papers in the U.S.

Just watched the "bruises" story a couple times. The newscaster said this came from her roommate's sworn statement and "Robyn was often covered in bruises" which alludes to more than one occasion.

My hinky meter just flew off the charts after listening to it over and over.

Most bruises take at least 5-10 days to heal. Why is it that RF didn't notice them and ask RG where they came from? I think RF may know a lot more than he is telling the media in his nightly interviews. WTH is going on????????

So just to clarify, can GG be charged with 1st Degree Murder in the U.S. if he is released by Aruba after serving any sentence handed down by them? Thanks.

Have a look at this case: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-20023980-504083.html

The guy was convicted in Australia and then ...

"Last year Watson pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Australia and served 18 months in a Queensland state prison for not doing enough to save his wife during a scuba dive on Australia's Great Barrier Reef in 2003.

Alabama Attorney General Troy King believes the newlywed's death was premeditated, claiming that Watson, an accomplished diver, formulated a plan in Alabama to kill his wife on their honeymoon, which gives the state jurisdiction over her death. King also said there are no international standards on double jeopardy that prevent Alabama from charging Watson a second time in the case."

Bruises don't surprise me at all if she has a problem w/ alcohol.
