CASEY'S PARENTS HIRE NEW ATTORNEYS

The parents of accused murderer Casey Anthony have hired new attorneys. Mark Lippman and Jennifer Craddock, from the Lippman Law Firm, are now representing the Anthonys.

WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer says the biggest challenge for both attorneys is controlling their clients.

"They must get their clients under control. They must get their clients to listen to their advice and as we have seen thus far, there hasn't been a lawyer that's been successful in doing that," Sheaffer said.

Lippman says he represented the Anthonys during their recent home foreclosure case.

RANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Attorneys for both sides in the Case against Casey Anthony were in court Monday afternoon to give an updated timeline on the case. Casey wasn't required to attend.

One change that came out of Monday's hearing is that motions must now be heard within 15 days of being filed.

Also, Casey's attorneys filed a new motion Monday that changes their witness list. The list now contains 64 witnesses the defense plans to call at trial, which include George and Cindy Anthony, Casey's brother Lee, and Casey's ex-fiance, Jesse Grund.

Robin Lunceford, the inmate who tried to discredit two of Casey's jailhouse pen pals, is not on the witness list.

Perry Sticking To Timeline; NeJame Calls Baez 'Liar

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Judge Belvin Perry won’t budge when it comes to the timeline on Casey Anthony’s trial.

Perry said at a status hearing on Monday he would not push back the trial from its scheduled start date in May of next year.

He said if the two sides could not share information with each other and get deposition schedules in sync, he would set schedules himself.

Anthony defense attorney Jose Baez reiterated allegations at the hearing that NeJame is only representing Equusearch for media coverage.

NeJame then told Cheney Mason, another member of the Anthony defense team, that Baez is a liar and incompetent.

“I believe your partner is not only a liar but incompetent,” NeJame said to Mason. “I'm going to say this in light of what he said to me -- he made up complete and total fabrications.”

Court documents show Dorothy Clay Sims will appear as co-counsel for the defense. According to her law firm's website, Sims focuses on direct and cross-examination of medical experts.

She will join Casey's attorneys Jose Baez and J. Cheney Mason.

New Casey Attorneys Taking On Case For Free

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. -- The defense team in the case against Casey Anthony has some new members who are taking on the fight for free. The defense announced several members Tuesday morning, including Dorothy Clay Sims.

One of the new attorneys not there Tuesday is Jacksonville criminal defense attorney Ann Finnell. The defense says she is a death penalty expert who will replace one of the former attorneys, Andrea Lyon.

Finnell's claim to fame was an acquittal in a tourist murder ten years ago about which an Oscar-winning documentary was made.

Unlike in Casey's case, where she told investigators they would never trick her into a confession, Finnell proved that her 15-year-old client was beaten into a false confession.

Attorneys will depose three people from the Orange County Medical Examiner's Office, including medical examiner Jan "Dr. G" Garavalia, on September 28.

Dr. G's testimony is key because she said Caylee's death was a homicide, but couldn't determine a cause of death.

Robyn Adams will be questioned at a federal prison in Tallahassee by lawyers for Zenaida Gonzalez in connection with the ongoing civil case against Anthony.

“If there's a witness out there who can say, ‘I heard out of Casey Anthony's mouth this is fabricated,’ this would be huge for our case,” Gonzalez’ lawyer, Keith Mitnik, said in June.

Deposition Delayed For Casey's Jailhouse Confidant

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Lawyers in the civil case against Casey Anthony will to have to wait a little longer to question Anthony's jailhouse pen pal.

Lawyers for Zenaida Gonzalez planned to depose and videotape Robyn Adams, another inmate who befriended Anthony in jail, on Monday. The deposition has since been delayed.

Attorneys in the case said they are working to get a new date.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Evidence released Tuesday in the case against Casey Anthony raises new questions about whether a former EquuSearch volunteer made up evidence while working for Casey's defense team.


Texas EquuSearch volunteer Joe Jordan says, a month before that, he brought a group to search for Caylee in the same area, but he could only get in about ten feet because, beyond that, it was under water.

"That was the farthest we went, which was, I want to say, five to ten feet in," Jordan told investigators. (hear interview at link)

But Tuesday, WFTV learned he told investigators the defense might be fabricating evidence to the contrary, and the sheriff's office is looking into it.

Casey Anthony: Are Texas EquuSearch volunteers’ comments a setback for defense?
It’s clearly a setback for the defense, Orlando attorney Diana Tennis said tonight in offering analysis for WOFL-Ch. 35.

“They wanted to hit it out of the ballpark with ‘this body was not there when that search happened,’ and they’re definitely not going to be able to prove that now,” Tennis said. Tennis predicted that the defense would abandon trying to prove anything with Texas EquuSearch.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- The state body that doles out money to indigent defendants wants to make sure Casey Anthony is still broke.

In a new motion for clarification, lawyers for the Justice Administrative Commission noted that Casey Anthony recently had three new attorneys join her defense team.

“Out of the four days of being in the house, Casey Anthony never said the word 'Caylee' one time,” Miller said.

In newly released interviews this week, the Equusearch volunteers described a volatile showdown inside the Anthony home in Orlando just as George Anthony appeared close to getting his daughter to mark a spot where they should look. At least two of the volunteers said the man physically confronted Casey in their home while she was out of jail on bond.

“He went in there, grabbed a hold of her and they had it out,” volunteer Lisa Hoffman said. “(He) came out and said, 'The answer to where the baby is is in that bedroom, and the (expletive) won't talk.'"

Casey's Attorneys Want To Do New DNA Testing

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The case against Casey Anthony was back in court Monday afternoon. Casey's lawyers said they want to do new DNA testing on the shorts found with Caylee's remains.

They also want Casey in the room when they question her jail guards, but the judge hasn't ruled on that yet.
The defense wanted to send key evidence, Caylee's shorts and the laundry bag that were found with her remains, out of the country to be tested. The judge said no way.
"I will not be authorizing evidence to be shipped outside the United States," Judge Belvin Perry ruled.

Prosecutors say the FBI found no DNA on the laundry bag The defense claims the entire bag wasn't tested.

The judge in the Casey Anthony case filed an order today stating that he will allow DNA testing on a pair of shorts believed to belong to Caylee Anthony and a bag found with the remains of Anthony's dead daughter nearly two years ago.

But Chief Judge Belvin Perry maintains the tests will have to be done in the United States — not at a Dutch forensic lab where a defense-team DNA expert is based.

He decided the testing be done at National Medical Services, Criminalistics Laboratory in Willow Grove, Pa

The defense questions how the medical examiner can conclude Caylee Anthony was murdered without saying how. But the defense won't say how Caylee could have been killed accidentally, when three pieces of duct tape were found layered over her face.

The defense questioned medical examiner Dr. Jan Garavaglia and two of her employees Tuesday at the medical examiner's office.

Casey's Defense Examines EquuSearch's Records

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Casey Anthony's lawyers spent hours Monday sorting through records from a group that tried to find Caylee's body. They're hoping to find something to show someone else murdered Caylee.

"There's one witness after another that says the area was wet and under water, so if somebody says otherwise, they're either wrong or lying," Miller's attorney, Mark NeJame, said.

It says volunteer Laura Buchanan says she searched the area in late summer 2008 and found nothing. Another volunteer says Buchanan is working with the defense and is using a fake document to prove her claims.

WFTV found an online post by Buchanan from October 20, 2008, six days after Caylee's mother, Casey, was indicted for murder. It says Casey's parents "Cindy and George are wonderful people if only others could see that. I know them very well."

Documents Could Damage Casey Anthony Defense

ORLANDO, Fla.

There's a new blow to the defense in the case against Casey Anthony. Documents uncovered by WFTV raise questions about a key defense witness.

A document shows EquuSearch volunteer Laura Buchanan wasn't with a team of volunteers, at the site Caylee's body was later found, the day she says she was. The document instead says she and the group of volunteers searched Blanchard Park that day and one of the volunteers, who was with her, says they never went to the woods on Suburban Drive that day.

Volunteer Lela Radojevic, who was on Buchanan's team that day, says they were at Blanchard Park from morning until late afternoon.

If it turns out someone falsified documents and or tampered with witnesses in this capital murder case about what went on at Suburban Drive, they could face felony charges.
