Yes it’s always sad when there’s a person accused of murder and the person is a parent. Of course children should be off limits. 100 percent.

<modsnip>

People have stated what year the kids are in but I can't remember.

For me the biggest clue to their ages is their handwriting and heights on the wall - bearing in mind that was done well over a year ago. There are also height markers drawn on the wall. The boy being the eldest was very tall = as tall as an adult, so I guess he must be in his early teens, the daughter being a couple of feet smaller, this correlated with the heights of their handwriting.

Just extracting out of memory because apparently it applies to school not age - what would “five and seven” mean? It is about classes.

And all of this during/post-COVID. I can't imagine what it would be like to be a school aged child during all of that. Their maternal grandmother had also died in 2019, pre-pandemic. If I was a child, young teenager or even an older teenager, I think I'd be feeling some pretty strong feelings about death, mortality and morbidity as well!! Jmo :0)

Thank you for the context of the "Grandma RIP" drawing because I was really disturbed by it. Their other Grandma passing in 2019 makes sense though.

I have no idea but those sound like low down school years to me. Going by the writing on the wall I'd have thought the eldest is the male, early teens, and a tall kid at that, and the younger female around 8 or so.

This is what I had posted before about the age children in Victoria are in the different school Years.

Next year (in 2024) they should be turning 12 and 14.

At those ages, having to face all the publicity about their mother must be really tough. They will understand what is being said, and it will be very hard to shelter them from social media, free tabloid articles, and nasty kids. imo

The children are in Years 5 & 7 in school. Link

Which means they are turning/turned 11 this year and turning/turned 13 this year. Link

With all the rubbish posted on the wall, it occurred to me that at least one of those heights could be a joke.

It reads like the information about the children’s ages came from the tradesperson in the original “Exclusive” News.com article about the wall, which you linked.

Here’s an excerpt:

“The tradie described the Pattersons as “sort of a quiet family”.

It’s understood Ms Patterson’s two children, who she shares with her estranged husband Simon, are in Year 7 and Year 5.

“They keep to themselves,” he said.

The tradie told news.com.au he was aware homicide detectives wanted to speak to him about the photo, the existence of which had been previously reported.”

I thought there were a number of years between the two children but maybe I’m wrong, and the tradesperson is right?

Or maybe he wasn’t the source for the children’s respective ages, and it just reads like he might be the source of their ages.

*I dislike jumping in here and diverting the discussion but I will anyway. I came across this article and found that the March and April 2003 morel mushroom deaths were discussed several times throughout these case threads. I’ll leave this here:

Interesting article. But I think the morel poisonings in Montana are quite different from the death caps which EP is alleged to have used. The mushrooms at the restaurant were served raw, although the FDA recommends that a lengthy cooking process will reduce the levels of toxin in morels. Furthermore of the 51 illnesses associated with the restaurant, there were three hospitalizations and two deaths. While obviously that's a severe outbreak, it's still a far cry from this case where there were three deaths and one lengthy hospitalization amongst the four victims.

This quote in the article refers to North American species, but I think it's still relevant:

According to the FDA’s Food Code, the vast majority of the more than 5,000 fleshy mushroom species that grow naturally in North America have not been tested for toxicity. Of those that have, 15 species are deadly, 60 are toxic whether raw or cooked — including “false” morels, which look like spongy edible morels — and at least 40 are poisonous if eaten raw, but safer when cooked.

The morels fall into the last category (poisonous if eaten raw, but safer when cooked), while the death caps are just plain deadly and cannot be safely consumed in any quantity no matter how they have been prepared.

It was originally published by news.com. They are owned by News Corp, are they a tabloid? I don’t think so? IMO. And yes it was essentially re-published by so many outlets.

Well he may have used the photo as part of his quote, or a before and after for his business, he was a painter or tradesperson wasn’t he?

I’ve no doubt he would have had permission to take the photograph. Moo.

Should he have attempted to sell it to the media? That’s the question.

I think if any privacy violation has occurred, imho it’s to do with the fact that all of the publications that have published the image have done so without redacting the names of the children.

To my mind, that is a really major privacy violation.

Here. Having thought about it, I realized that it was not taking a photo in a client's house that made me cringe. It was keeping that photo for a year. A year ago, no one could foresee that the owner of the house to be painted and sold would end up in the epicenter of a major murder mystery. EP was just another mom from a small town. So, maybe someone with poor boundaries takes the photo of an odd wall to share with wife and friends. But why keep it for a year and make public after that? Now i want to know more about that person - did he do any painting work in her new house, too? Could he have left the dried poisonous mushrooms? Besides SP and his family, he is the only person I know to have visited EP's house, and his behavior looks strange to me.

I recall the DM publishing her address on 3rd November, when they published the "leaked text messages".

It is in a post further back in the thread.

According to The Age, the pair who stole EP's car are from Cheltenham, which is about a 1½ hour drive away. Not exactly locals who might know where EP lived.

imo

Aww, they shouldn't have published the address. That's not fair because she is obviously not at home. No reason for it to be made public. That's a shame.

I'm not her biggest fan but this is not right, imo.

So, I just had a bit of a look, as I was initially incredulous that anyone would publish a persons address, for any reason.

It was 2 Nov 2023 that the story you mentioned was published, and they didn’t leak her address but they did publish the street name and town where Erin lived.

So I thought, well maybe it’s a really large street… no. The sad part is the street is super small and only has about 30 houses on it, so it wouldn’t have been difficult for would-be thieves to scope out the entire street to find which one to target; after all, photos of the residence were plastered all over the news: It would have been very easy to recognise.

Really disappointing.

IIRC, the painter didn't have permission to take the photo, peddled it around to various media, and sold it.
If this is correct (and it may not be), he should be held to account.

The Master Painters Association of Australia (Victoria) Code of Ethics "Obligation to the Client" appears to be an area where this particular painter falls very short.
IMO he has not satisfied the obligation "To conduct our business to the highest professional standards", or "To present a favourable image of our industry to the public
